On more than one occassion small private boats have been swooped upon just off the south devon coast.  They have been carrying quite large quantities of illegal drugs.  So it seems that the age-old way of smuggling still exists.

We've escaped here in the S.W. Devon !  Just heavy sleet showers and now we have bits of blue sky and sunshine !

Many thanks Nomad and Bob for all your help.  It has given OH food for thought and he was very interested in the links.  When he has decided which bike to go for I will let you know (hopefully by the end of March or it could be a walking tour !!)

Thank you for your help Nomad.  I will get my OH to look at the links you kindly provided and will let you know what he decides on.  He is off on another three week tour of France in April and travels very light.  He did one last year and dropped his BMW twice (luckily a biker buddy was there to help him lift it !) This is why he is looking for a more managable bike.  He has looked at some Harleys, but after hitting snow in the Massif Central last year, he thinks he would prefer some cover !  Thanks again for your help.

My OH has had several BMW's, the latest being R1150RT.   Sadly, he had to let it go because of the weight (he's 5' 7" and of slim build and older than he'd like to be !)  He needs to find a lighter bike for touring etc. and has been told the Deauville may suit him.  Also, that he may be able to have the saddle lowered which would help.  We would welcome any advice on this before he starts looking to buy - many thanks.

Good tip Mikew !  I try not to overload mine. I'm very happy with my condenser dryer and find that if I give the clothes a good shake before putting them in, and again when I take them out, I don't have a problem with creasing.
