  1. We recently had a new wood burner installed and decided to test it a couple of days after installation. The literature advised a gentle start for the first few times and we followed this advice. When the body of the stove had heated up smokey fumes were seen coming off the outside surface of the stove to the extent that every smoke alarm in the house went off. I assume that these stoves are coated in some form of metallic high temperature paint and that it needs to cure the first few times you run it. A friend of ours has the same model and theirs did the same thing when new.   Our cat Ben was asleep in the same room and although I had arranged extra ventilation with open window and fans running once I became aware of the problem, I suspect that the chemicals in the smoke may have affected his nervous system in some way. He got up late in the evening and kept wobbling in a way that reminded me of an animal recovering from anaesthetic, i.e. the back legs kept giving way. His eyes were jerking from side to side and he was clearly in some distress. We got him to the local vet and by this time he was beginning to recover, fresh air? Injections to dilate the blood vessels were given and the vet said that he may have had a stroke which was rare for cats although I understand that they are sensitive to chemicals. He was back to normal by the time we got him home and has been ok since.   He is currently on pills that do the same job as the injections. They are called Candilat and contain Vincamine 5mg and Papavérine chlorhydrate 10mg. The vet said one a day for 20 days but the manufacturers notes in the box says 1 a day for 10 days. If he has not had a stroke but was suffering from chemical poisoning I wonder if these pills would do him any harm and whether we should keep giving them to him for 20 days?   Has anyone else has had this problem with a new wood burner and their pets. It seems a bit of a coincidence that this should happen to our cat at the time we decided to test the stove. Have run the stove again since with the cat well out of the way and again noticed a strong chemical smell but no visible smoke...............any comments folks?................................J
  2. Sorry cannot remember the name but it came in a tube with a special mixing nozzle sold separately. It was a two part "résine" for the purpose you describe and I bought it at Bricomarché. It goes in a standard mastic gun and I have fixed down all my swimming pool fence bolts with it and some house shutters, very effective.............J  P.S. You could ask for Résine fixation chimique
  3. Thanks for the info and have made modifications to satisfy point one. On point two have tried a couple of times to create a new account with a different email address but both times have received this message: At May 29, 7:52 AM [GMT 0] you created a new user account at France Forum.  Request status: Your account request has not been approved. Thanks, France Forum team The email address was with live.co.uk, is there some problem with this. I also tried a different aol address but in that case as before got no response at all......................help............................J PS Have provided further info by pm.  I take it that the lack of a visible pm symbol on my posts, when I look at them, is because your system knows that I would not want to pm myself?
  4. 1/ We never get notification of replies to our posts sent to our hotmail email box. We went to hotmail because the same thing happened with our AOL email address. Is there any reason for this and what can we do to get notification of replies?....................................J 2/ Is it possible to have more than one account from the same computer as my husband and I would like to post separately under our own names?..................J
  5. Well on trying to correct it I discover the option to tick the box saying you have submitted a 2042C is not there but it is shown on the completed form when you look at the submission in Mes Documents so cannot do it, silly is it not........................................J
  6. Well that is good to know...........I think. So what do you think should I do the 4th correction I mentioned or not bother?.......................J
  7. Thanks and on reflection I think that is what it said and I do have a Teacher's pension declared so that must be it. I have just noticed that I forgot to tick the box saying I have included a 2042C but I think I will leave well alone as a 4th correction might be excessive and they can see I have done one anyway! If last year is anything to go by they totally ignored 2042C and 2047 and I had to claim back overpaid tax. I suspect when they are in a hurry that they might just look at the 2042 and ignore anything else. I wonder if they send these on-line entries to your local tax office to be dealt with or process them centrally?.........................................J
  8. Thanks for the replies folks. Going to Mon Compte Fiscal and then maybe it depends on where you look. If you look at Visualiser ma déclaration de revenus you only see the latest 2042 that you have entered but if you look at Mes Documents then it shows all the documents 2042,2047, 2042C and 3916 including earlier versions. Is this what is happening for you?....................................J PS When I did it it said that the fact that I had accounts abroad made it to difficult to give an estimate, anyone else have this happen?
  9. Thanks, someone cares, sniff sniff............................J
  10. So nobody likes me everybody hates me I am going out to eat worms etc......................J
  11. We have had a similar problem in that upstairs loos, sinks and baths do this even though loos and sinks etc are taken to the Fosse in different pipes i.e. 100mml  for loos and 50mm for sinks etc. Downstairs loo was unaffected. The problem was caused by the dam at the entry to the fosse being partly blocked by loo paper etc. The cure was to remove this with a high pressure hose. As it happened several times over the years I put a little clip on and glued entry port just before the fosse and I can clear the blockage by putting my hose in here. I would think an over full fosse might also cause this problem as a crust of solids may be blocking the entry as well. I think all water fosses have to be emptied every 4 years now if you have that type. Glad you have it fixed. The charges for a vidange seem to have more than doubled in the last seven years!..........J
  12. Yes I thought that it would only add to the safety of the system. I don't really know what double skinned means but the artisan, in his devis, wrote  " Tubage de conduit avec flexible inox double peau, homologué bois et charbon, diamètre 155 mm. Fournitures et main d'oeuvre  68 Euros each 8 units 544 Euros"  I think this 155 mm must be the inside diameter as the stove info specifies this but I don't know the outside diameter. Someone in another place has suggested a 30 mm air gap between the skins which would mean it would not fit inside the existing 200 mm conduit. I think I must contact the bloke and see what he says as I really don't want to take down part of the bedroom wall though he was negative when I suggested putting it inside the existing conduit when he first came round.............................................J
  13. We are having a woodburning stove installed having taken out the old stove. The flexible liner diameter, double skin, might be less than the existing rigid tube 200mm liner though I don't know what the outside diameter of a 155mm double skinned liner would be. The artisan says the existing liner is too large and the smaller one would be better with the stove we are buying, a Supra Orlando Ollaire which takes a 155mm liner, inside diameter I assume. I have managed to get the old stove out and the liner sections that were between it and the bottom of the chimney but those sections in the chimney appear to be trapped in concrete at the base. I cannot get far enough up from the fireplace to chip out this concrete and to remove the old liner would mean demolishing part of a bedroom wall upstairs to get at it which I am not keen on doing. My question is this, is there any reason why the new liner could not be pulled up inside the old one to the top of the chimney assuming that it would fit, or is there some regulation against this?...............................J
  14. I thought I would put this on as a separate question. Having corrected an on-line tax declaration the web site shows both the corrected copy and the un-corrected copy. How do you delete the latter or is this not possible?..........J
  15. Yes as you go through the 2042/2042C there is a box at the bottom of the last page to tick which brings up 2042C a one page form which has TA but once done is listed separately in Mes Documents when you look at mon Compte Fiscal on the Impot Gouv site. I missed seeing it the first time round. I don't know why it keeps a copy of the pre-corrected forms as well as the corrected forms, perhaps someone will tell me..............................J  PS Just had to do it a third time as found another minor error and again the pre-corrected copies have been retained! I think they will hate me and not give me the 20 Euros discount as I must be using up a lot of memory space in their computer!
  16. Great it all worked thank you and I could go through them again and make modifications like ticking box UU and entering tax paid in the UK in TA on 2042C. I notice when going to the impot gouv web site and looking at mon compte fiscal/mes documents all the ones I did yesterday are listed and the modified ones done today are shown as well in slightly heavier type. I don't know if I missed an option to delete the previous ones or not, should I have been able to do this or do they want to keep the evidence! Can you see your pre-correction ones on the site as well? .................................................J
  17. Hi Hereford have sent a pm............................J
  18. Thanks, any comments on the other points?......................J
  19. Ok well I have made the declaration on line and received the Accusé de reception which I assume means that the declaration has in fact taken place. It did not give me an estimate of the taxes I would be asked to pay and there was a message at some stage in the process saying that this was not possible due to the nature of the declaration. I don't know if that was because I included a couple of notes at the end of the 2042 or because I only included in box TL that part of our pensions before the E121 was in force about half way through 2007 and so the figure in TL did not agree with the sum of AS and BS. I included a note to explain this at the end of 2042.  The form filling was straight forward other than the fact that on 2047 I am used to listing interest on three accounts in section 2B and then putting the total which goes into A and then TS. When selecting Royaume-Uni from the list it would only let me do this once and therefore there was no room to enter the three interests on three lines. I therefore entered the total of these three in column 5, Totaux, A and TS and I assume that it does not matter as TS on 2042 only contains the total. It seemed a bit strange that they only gave one line of boxes in 2B and the next line was for totals. You could only move the Royaume-Uni from the left panel to the right in the list of countries and not put it in the right hand list three times which is what I wanted to do. Did anyone else have this problem?  I noticed that the amount given to charity in box UF section 7 on 2042 was shown against UF and UG in the Résumé you get at the end of the declaration. I went back to correct this and found it is not possible to enter anything in UG anyway so what is that all about? At the top of the page it said 2042/2042C but there was no sign of 2042C. The only thing I have ever put on 2042C is tax paid on my teachers pension in the UK. This amount is reported on 2047 and in one of notes I put at the end of 2042 so I hope that the missing 2042C does not matter, any comments? Finally if corrections have to be made after the submission of the forms on-line how do you go about it? I note that I can look at the declaration on line. So now we wait for the Avis d'Impot, does anyone know when this is likely to be?..............................................................................J
  20. Thanks this I know Ron. The Tax FAQS link takes me to a payment on-line site and not a form filling site so I am still looking just now and have found that the first link in Tax FAQS www.impots.gouv.fr  takes me there..................J
  21. Many thanks I think I will have a go................................J
  22. Apologies if this has been asked before. Are the on-line forms the same as the paper ones i.e. 2042, 2047? Will the system accept entries in Box TI as the calculator will not? Is there a 3916 to fill in? Can you write notes on the forms or elsewhere? Do they email an Avis D'Impot or send by post and am I right in thinking you have to pay on-line to get the 20 Euro reduction?.........................J
  23. The reply: What is the amount of interests? Is the bond more than 8 years old? Pierre Vergne inspecteur départemental des Impôts   The bond Commencement date is 21 June 2001. Siddalls have sent us a letter to declare XYZ Euros for tax year 2007.   So you put XYZ in box TS   So it looks as if we add it to Building Society interest etc and put it in TS on both forms. Not sure what the significance is of the question "Is the bond more than 8 years old? " Maybe I will ask next year. As with others the response was very quick so I don't know how right he is but he sure is helpful as are Siddalls who have also replied to my emails......................J
  24. I note that when we did use an accountant to complete the tax return he put the sale of units figure from our CMI Premier bond in section II Plus-Values on page 1 of form 2047 and not in 2B with Building Society Interests and, I assume, premium bond prizes. He then transferred the figure from page 1 of 2047 to box VG on form 2042. Other interests were transferred from 2B TS 2047 to box TS 2042. From the forms I note that the tax rate for Plus-Values is 16% which I assume is a different rate than that for Building Society interest say. My question is was he right or can I just treat profits on sale of Bond units as if they were building society interest? Siddalls send a letter each year saying how much we should declare on the sale of CMI units and indicate this sum should be entered in TR and not VG so which is right? Had no response so far from Siddalls on this question which I put to them by email . Have also sent an email to [email protected] and will report their reply if anyone is interested..............................J
  25. And thanks from me also Ron. One point I would make is that in the helpful Tax FAQS I don't find it clear that it is the NET figure that goes in TI and not the gross.........................................J
