Is there any chance of one of the fluent members giving a 'proper'translation, my French is certainly not up to it. Am I right istranslating the last part as , effectively, ' without the Americans wewould not be as advanced..........'
-
Regarding the original post , I sent it to an American friend whos reply was ''' that was bl***y good''',regards

Jonzjob,No offence taken. My only 'excuse' is that my typing is 'almost' as badas my handwriting, speed leading to mistakes in grammatical accuracy.I agree that the other services also use Zulu time etc but we don'ttalk too much about them. The object was to explain as simply aspossible to non-military experienced people (possibly, but notnecessarily !) that it was necessary when crossing multiple time zones,air travel reference seemed to be the best vehicle for such explanation.Regards

My interpretation is that the test point should be immediatly aboveground outside the property for access by EDF / Consuel for insulationresistance measurement. I am quite prepared to be corrected.

Correction to my earlier post,The earth link between the house earth lead (from the barrette deterre) to the prise de terre is called the barette de coupure orbarrette de mesure in some references. The main earth lead is the'conducteur principal de protection'I recommend ' L'installation electrique' by Thierry Gazauziaux& David Fedullo, ISBN : 2-212-11431-1 and see page 199 et al.Regards

prise de terre, ----that was the name I couldn't remember !!! Thanks La Guerrier.

steve@sarah,I,m pretty sure that if the 'thin wires' to your house are not up tothe job then EDF will not change the setting on your incomer asit would be serious technical malpractice. Cant help about the polesthough.

Helen,The barette de terre is literally the earth bar, this is usually in thetableau d'electricite or the consumer unit box to some of us. Its whereall the individual circuit earths meet up and it is then connected toyour main system earth at the earthing pin in the ground outside (cantremember the French term for that). In between the earth pin and thehouse earth cable is the coupe circuit which is a disconnectable linkto allow earth resistance tests to be done to check the 'efficiency' ofthe ground earthing. This test is NOT something you can do with yourordinary multi-meter.The earthing clamps to pipes I cannot help with, perhaps you could try other brico-sheds or import from UK.The redundant ex-3 phase tails are hopefully dead and could possibly be taped up and tucked away!!!!!Check they are dead before any touching or get a professional spark todo it if you do not have the necessary expertise. Live wires do notgive you two chances!!!!!!!!Regards

Val_2,Haloumi is the only cheese that doesn't melt. Regards

TU,no idea, possibly as it may be a NATO standard.

KathyC,'Zulu time' is military terminology for GMT, because the militaryoperate across different time zones ( particularly RAF) all operationorders are related to a specific time, ie Zulu if GMT, Alpha-time ifGMT+1, Bravo-time if GMT+2 etc. For GMT minus, go back from Zulu, ie Yankee, x-ray etc.Regards

Get the Australian Haloumi if you can, its less salty. Its gorgeousfried in thin slices and served with a dip of raspberry jam mixed withbalsamic vinegar.

All of a sudden my computer is diplaying the last message posted timesan hour adrift from my local time, ie its 17.10 here but messages showposted an hour later. Is due to time changes in Europe last night or mysettings? anyone got any ideas ?

GMT = Zulu, GMT+1 = Alpha

My jar of Bovril lists 'beef stock' as first ingredient, hence its still beef not vegetarian. Marmite is still 'yuck'

Gabe,I dont think you will find a difference in application between themanual one and the electric. Its just less physical with electric ones.I think the manual ones from farmers stores are a higher quality thanthe B&Q / Homebase garden variety. Around 25 to 30 pounds I think.Regards

This may be a slight divergence from topic but I have just bookedRyanair from Dinard to Stansted in early june for E12.50. I haveabsolutely no experience of Ryanair ( living where I do) and wonderjust how reliable they can be at that sort of pricing. Any comments onthat aspect??????Regards

Why not use cuprofit push fit connections, they are rated to 16bar oreven speedfit which I believe are rated to 10 bar (could be wrong onthe last one). Then no soldering / brazing etc.Regards
