  1. Some twenty plus years ago we took our cat from UK to Dubai, she

travelled in a standard cat box which was of a type approved by the

airline. The cargo hold is / was pressurised and air conditioned and

she sufferred no apparent harm apart from looking totally confused when

going round the baggage carousel, particularly as we were looking on

the other carousel where the main bags were.

A normal modern non stop flight should be ok  IMHO as most single

journeys are less than 8 hrs. I have no idea of the current vet regs

    etc.

  2. Jonzjob,

No offence taken. My only 'excuse' is that my typing is 'almost' as bad

as my handwriting, speed leading to mistakes in grammatical accuracy.

I agree that the other services also use Zulu time etc but we don't

talk too much about them. The object was to explain as simply as

possible to non-military experienced people (possibly, but not

necessarily !) that it was necessary when crossing multiple time zones,

air travel reference seemed to be the best vehicle for such explanation.

  3. Correction to my earlier post,

The earth link between the house earth lead (from the barrette de

terre) to the prise de terre is called the barette de coupure or

barrette de mesure in some references. The main earth lead is the

    'conducteur principal de protection'

I recommend  ' L'installation electrique' by Thierry Gazauziaux

& David Fedullo, ISBN : 2-212-11431-1 and see page 199 et al.

  4. Helen,

The barette de terre is literally the earth bar, this is usually in the

tableau d'electricite or the consumer unit box to some of us. Its where

all the individual circuit earths meet up and it is then connected to

your main system earth at the earthing pin in the ground outside (cant

remember the French term for that). In between the earth pin and the

house earth cable is the coupe circuit which is a disconnectable link

to allow earth resistance tests to be done to check the 'efficiency' of

the ground earthing. This test is NOT something you can do with your

    ordinary multi-meter.

The earthing clamps to pipes I cannot help with, perhaps you could try other brico-sheds or import from UK.

The redundant ex-3 phase tails are hopefully dead and could possibly be taped up and tucked away!!!!!

Check they are dead before any touching or get a professional spark to

do it if you do not have the necessary expertise. Live wires do not

    give you two chances!!!!!!!!

    Regards

  5. KathyC,

'Zulu time' is military terminology for GMT, because the military

operate across different time zones ( particularly RAF) all operation

orders are related to a specific time, ie Zulu if GMT, Alpha-time if

GMT+1, Bravo-time if GMT+2  etc. For GMT minus, go back from Zulu

    , ie Yankee, x-ray etc.

    Regards

  6. This may be a slight divergence from topic but I have just booked

Ryanair from Dinard to Stansted in early june for E12.50. I have

absolutely no experience of Ryanair ( living where I do) and wonder

just how reliable they can be at that sort of pricing. Any comments on

    that aspect??????

    Regards
