  1. Gluestick,

Many thanks for your comprehensive reply, I had found Veisman and they look very good but very expensive.

I am not sure that I agree with your comment about the efficiency of

condensing combi boilers, as I understand it the condensing mode

is only at full load, a point at which most CH boilers dont operate for

too much of the time. I have no experiece to back that up though.

I am not in any great hurry to buy a CH boiler at the moment and am

trying to plan ahead for the long term. What is the availabilty

of wood pellets in France , particularly in areas where log burning is already popular ?

I will work through the list of sites, thanks again.

    Regards

  2. Gluestick,

The prochauffage site shows that pellets are very competitive but I havn't managed to locate a reasonably priced pellet burning CH boiler yet. Have you any recommendations ????? There seem to be a number of pellet stoves about but boilers are a different matter. I estimate needing something like 20kw, thats based on a high level of insulation, your comments are totally agreed with in that respect.

Regarding oil fired boilers, do you think a UK sourced unit is a practical proposition, with correct burner for different viscosity of course. I seem to remember seeing prices of 700 + pounds ( E1000 +) as a start point.

Am I correct in thinking a venteuse flu is a 'fan assisted' flue system ?

  3. The Canon IXUS i5 with 5.0 megapixels is small, light, has reasonable battery life and seems to produce good results. It all depends what level of photog you are I suppose.

Mine was a pressie and I'm more than happy with it, particularly the ability to take absolute masses of photos and then only save the selected few, I think that is the main advantage. Its probably a good idea to get a spare battery and the biggest memory card that you can find, or have spares of the card. Another advantage is that XP recognises the camera directly and you can download to any XP user anywhere.

    Just a few thoughts.

  4. Eslier,

many thanks, Will I need the standard modem as well as the DG834G or

does the netgear unit do modem and router function? Presumably the 54

mb unit will be more than adequate.

From a brief look it seems that the netgear price in Euro in France is

same numerically as pounds in UK, ie 33 % cheaper in France ( very

    rough comparison).

My walls are about 60cm also so I should ok.

  5. Hi,

I know there have been many posts about ADSL and I have probably read them all, to the point of info-overload. I need advice.

I intend to bring a new PC from UK to Normandy in the next few weeks

and will be asking FT/Wanadoo for an ADSL hook-up. I am tempted to use

a Netgear wi-fi modem/router with the necessary PC adaptor. Would it be

best to buy same in UK or wait until arrival in France, am I, in fact,

making the right choice with a 54mbps unit or is a 108 recommended in a

stone built house with the usual thick walls. Are other makes more

    highly recommended?

I assume that I will need a filter to allow phone use in parallel with

computer use is this correct?. Do FT/Wanadoo supply that as part of the

    ADSL installation ?

We dont need a  super speed type hook up just normal e mailing,

web surfing etc, possibly voip (maybe), we dont download music files

and stuff like that, so how many mega-thingies should I go for?

Any (and all ) advice will be most gratefully received.

    Regards

  6. Further to the warnings above,

Studies have been carried out using different mixtures of

    DHMO and C2H5OH.

Subjects ingested the mixture and in almost all cases the

    following results were seen:-

    Initial

    feelings of euphoria

    Loss

    of sensation in limbs

    Collapse

    and unconsciousness.

On return to consciousness a large number of subjects

experienced headaches of varying degrees of seriousness, the majority requiring

    further medication over time.

Further studies are planned to validate and quantify these

    findings.

  7. I was (am) also confused about the type A / type AC breakers, I took

advice from a Belgian electrical /electronic installation contracting

colleague who said he always uses type AC throughout, never uses the

    type A.

I presume Belgium has the same codes/normes as France and, unless there

is info to the contrary I must presume he knows what he is doing.

    I think that the

real reason is, as stated, to keep the plane balanced. Anyone who has

been involved with aircraft loading will know that there is a very

technical job of 'Loadmaster'. It actually carries officer rank in the

    RAF.

I was thinking of Master Air Load Master. But

it is certainly important to spread the weight correctly around the

airframe when you take off and land.

I believe that MALM is a Warrant Officer rank, ie top of the non-commissioned tree. The most senior of the SNCOs.

  9.    France has been going headlong for nuclear since the 70s.  Have the French people been lied to about nuclear energy, or do they just not care?   Or have they protested and the govt has gone ahead anyway.

What lies?  Perhaps the fact that they have nuclear energy shows, in fact, that they DO care. Why should they protest about the most sensible energy policy in Europe? If only the UK would see the light!! ( pun intended)

  10. Thank you both.

I really wish I had the option of coming out of walls / floors but with

solid stone walls and ditto floor it means I am surface mounting and

boxing in with hollow skirting. White plastic tails to valves will

    (IMHO ) be aesthetically acceptable.

Use of elbows is in places that 'tight' radius bends are needed that may be tighter than the 75mm rad / 15mm pipe spec.

The 22mm is all straight run until the load drops to give 15mm so I

dont need to worry about bends on that, just expansion !!!!!!!!!

    Regards

  11. I have never used PEX pipe but intend to, for CH.

Most things seem clear but....... are bending springs necessary or does

the pipe bend by hand without deforming. I will be using 22, 15 and 10

mm pipe with 90 deg elbows as required. I can locate 22 mm and 15mm

springs ( I think ) but cant find any reference to 10mm. Do I need to ?

Is the 22, 15 and 10mm size OD or ID ? ( I,m thinking for pipe clips )

    Regards
