Theres no answer to that one!!!!!!! - YET

Agreed, The weak point is the gland nut at the valve outlet plus thetube joint on the spigot which is usually a jubilee type clip. Theproblem is a very small leak which leads to a gas build up at low levelfollowed by a flash off. Age of the rubber tubing is also an issue, most people dont really look at the need for change and you getcracking with small leakage eventually. You would have to be seriouslydestructive to damage a cylinder but the valves can snap off if hit inthe right way ( or wrong way in this case!). You then have anuncontrolled and uncontrollable gas release which only needs anignition source, this leads to a totally spoilt day!!!!

How accurate do you want to be?The 'crude & dirty' way is, I believe, 5 cu m / kw but its morecost effective to do the maths and work out the heat transfer(leakeage) through the fabric of the walls + ceiling + floor. Thisinvolves knowing the 'U' value of each surface, the temperature youactually want to achieve, the assumed minimum outside (usually -1 degC), the area of each surface. Its not particularly difficult, just abit of research, measurement and number crunching. Its a bit late at night to go into more detail, plus typing andbacardi/coke dont really go together. Google search under CentralHeating Design will give you a feel for the type of calcs needed forany particular room.Regards

I suppose I must be chicken really, the thought of a 'flash - burn'suntan just does not appeal, I've seen it once and it wasn't pretty. Iwill carry on being 'abnormal' by French standards, and have my gascylinders outside. Must have been an entertaining programme though, Iwonder what the failure / loss rate is?Regards

Dick,I would never normally disagree with you but.... the concept of havinga gas cylinder in the house, in a cupboard or not, strikes me as a verydangerous thing to do. Outside storage is really the best solution andpiped with a length of 'proper' flexi gas pipe still allows movementfor decorating. Only my own opinion of course - each to his/her own!Regards

Regarding the chocolate fireguard, There is a much cruder version in common 'building type site' use whichinvolves the word Bull which I am sure no-one would dream of quoting ona family forum.

Further to Antons 'at least 220 kg' there is the empty weight on topwhich means probably nearer 300 kg, you need SERIOUSLY meaty wallbrackets if you dont go the tripod (quadpod????) route.A 'falling off the wall water heater' can seriously spoil your whole day!!!

Ty,I am not being argumentative but why the assumption that old peoplewill end up in an old folks home, I would suggest that the majority of'old' people actually live out their days in their own homes, whyshould France be any different?Regards

Bannon,I certainly agree that as a European Union all the members should bemore liberal with the acceptance of the language of the other members.I just dont see it happening quickly in France as I sense a ''fear''that the French language may be sidelined, as in fact it is in majorbusinesses.I deal daily with a major French company and very rarely have to changefrom English, even in meetings in Paris (just as well as my French isnot really up to it by any stretch of anyones imagination!!!).I take your point about Wales, my UK licence paper copy is still inWelsh + English and I never got beyond the extreme basics. My daughteris however fluent in Welsh as are (some) of my grandchildren. I believeits due to Category A schooling that was supposedly bi-lingual ( butmeaning Welsh first!!)Regards

Bannon,Would you really expect official documents in UK to be available in French? Urdu and Hindi yes, but not French. It is not realistic to expect French documents to be in English, any that are should be looked on as a bonus. In France the language is, of course, French and it is up to us to learn it.Regards

Don't know about the love them part, but hate for sure in respect of Lloyds -TSB.Order over net for £600 of kit on visa card. TSB bounce the request forpayment, when asked (after going through the robotic press this answerthat syndrome ) was told ' it was unusual usage', of course it was, Idont know many (or any!) people who spend £600 daily on theircredit card. They agreed that the card limit was substantially morethan needed but they were not going to inform us of their actions. Whatexactly is the point of a credit card? and how does such action impacton personal credit rating in the future? It got sorted out after numerous overseas phone calls (£1 a minute !!!!) BTW this was second time by TSB in last 4 months.Conclusion:- they are a waste of rations with zero customer relations skills.
