1. Tony & Zeltus,

We are also in the same situation with a just to be expired CdS (and candidate for elections) and we are also in the Perigueux prefecture.  I have printed off the government website pages that says we have the right to have a Permanent titre de sejour and I'm going to ask the Maire tomorrow for an attestation that we have lived here more than five years uninterrupted.  Maybe we should all go along en force to the Prefecture!!

Not sure what he was talking about concerning the licence for the

trailer - I assume you produced your driving licence, so he should have

been able to tell that you've got the right entitlement for towing.

In simple terms, you can tow light trailers and caravans on a

category B car licence and heavier trailers if you have category (E)B.

If you've had your licence a few years, you will have both of these

    categories.

If you (not you SD) have changed your licence for a French one then I would double check what categories have been stamped.  I changed mine over 5 years ago and only realised last autumn that I no longer had all the categories I had on my UK licence.  Unless you actually specify that you want them all  transferred they probably won't be. Thanks to some nice people at the DVLA and my Prefecture my licence is currently being updated so that I can tow a double horse box or drive a larger horse wagon.

  3. Put a poster together if you can and get it posted at all the local Mairies. Get it put up inthe local boulangers too as nearly everyone goes there and you will get more coverage. We adopted our dog from the SPA and she had been handed into the local Mairie.  Is there an SPA near you?  You don't say where you are, either look in the Pages Jaunes or ask your Mairie.

    Good luck.

Bet you looked chic, did you have a shoulder curly perm?

No, I had hair that was cropped short at the back and sides and was sprayed about four inches vertically on top!!  I was from the end of punk/beginning of new romantics era.

  5. I must be a bit younger than you lot.  The worst I can think of is when I walked through my home town in full Adam Ant new romantic garb complete with a strip of white grease paint across my nose [:$]

Talking of long hair, my 13 year old son has hair past his shoulders.  When it's clean it's lovely.  He refuses to get it cut, but about twice a year  he does allow me to trim the ends off to keep it tidy!  It has it's downsides though, on more than one occasion he has been mistaken for a girl, including by a locum doctor!!

  6. With regard to roast pork, I always buy the joint labelled Echine and then buy the couenne seperately.  I score and salt the couenne and drape it over the joint.  I always use a meat thermometer for roasts and it always comes out perfectly and very tasty.  When the meat is cooked I remove it and cover it with foil and a teatowel to stand for about 20 minutes while the crackling gets really puffy and crisp and the spuds golden.

  7.
I've just had an 'interview' with a second candidate for our Maire's upcoming election and he wants me for his list also !!!!!
I was in the same position Tony.  In demand, us Brits!!

I stuck to my original decision, and the the more people I speak to the more I'm glad I did!

  8. My enduring memory of Nice from when I was about 10 years old was that the beach is very stony and when going into the sea for a swim it shelves off very quickly and deeply - bloody dangerous if you're not a good swimmer. It may have changed in the last 30-odd years though!

  9. I have bought a fitted bikini here excellent service and the size fitted unlike those in the shops here where only one bra out of 5 actually fit even thought they are all marked as the same size.

The beauty of this as a cop-out is that it cuts down on needing to learn the future as well as the 'reverse for a question' issue in things like "va-t-elle".

"Je vais manger de la soupe ce soir"

"Est-ce que vous allez faire la vaisselle?"...
I use this a lot too Gipsy, much easier!
