  2. Chrisb - 'never trust anyone who wants to ban anything...'

So obviously we all don't trust politicians - lying load of b-----s as far as I'm concerned.

But we're talking about Islam and the Burkha and the Hijab.

You do realise that the 'creed/cult' of Islam involves banning homosexuality, and destroying the Jews ?

How does that chime in with all the tolerant/liberal/do-gooding that is being pontificated about on this post ?

So by your lights then Chrisb - we 'shouldn't trust Islam'....

Oh dear - cabin fever again

  3. OK Quillan - my description of 'your' social workers - self-righteous power-mad idiots.   The same people who believe in Man-made Global Warming and the Commie Party.

It's time there were more mature social workers who've had more life experiences.

It's time we - as a society - decided that the behaviour of other people's children IS a concern of ours.    I remember there was a time when if you saw a child misbehaving or doing something dangerous or risky to their own lives it was possible to either grab them to prevent them walking straight into traffic or down a river bank or to stop chasing ducks.  It was possible to tell a strange child that 'NO - you don't do that' - without any problems.

Now - you dare NOT do it.   You will be at the receiving end of abuse by parents, or be accused of being a paedophile, and you can't take photos in lots of places because we're all terrorists.

And before anyone starts squawking - remember it's the Government and the barmy 'left wing idiots' who've decided that we're all paedophiles, terrorists, drug-dealers or whatever....and I RESENT feeling that innocent men are all made out to be paedophiles.   When a grand-mother tells her grand-children 'be careful of any man, don't talk to any man' - what sort of message does that send out.

Most men aren't paedophiles; most men aren't terrorists.   Most families are decent.

But it's the nutters in high places who are the dangerous ones.   The nutters who have no common-sense.

Society has gone totally 'bonkers' - we've lost all common-sense and self-respect.

Social workers just pussy foot around the real problem families;  I've encountered the social workers who all take the line 'but the mother loves the child and that must come first'.    Social workers have been brain-washed for the last 30 odd years, by the same brain-washing in teacher training colleges - by the left-wing wishy-washy hippy-dippy Polly Toynbees of this world.   Where everything is pink and fluffy and people are always good, and if things go wrong then it's always somebody else's fault.

I'm a sick of it.   It's time the UK started to talk about responsibility, and morals, and right and wrong.

    Oh dear - I wish I didn't have insomnia.....and the bunker's a bit cold at the moment !!

    Chessie

  4. I was at one time involved in dealing with similar families.

The answer, Dog, is NOT money - NOT NOT NOT...never...

There is a cycle here - you can look at these families, look at their backgrounds, look at how the previous generation has behaved, and the generation before that.....there is a definite repeating behaviour.     Throwing money at them is not the answer.     We saw that with a Lottery winner - who still went on and made many people's lives miserable because of his 'couldn't give a damn attitude' to his neighbours and his criminal, drug and drunk behaviour.   Money can never replace morals, self-respect, responsibility and a sense of right and wrong.

There are families who will never amount to anything, who DON'T want to work, who prefer life on the 'welfare'...and their children see that and they grow up to be exactly the same.     These children do not see the point of behaving decently - because they have never seen decent behaviour from their parents (what parents ??).      They don't see the point in working;  and they're not interested in the discipline and self-respect that comes with work.      I've heard them - 'the why bother, me Mum says social have to get us new washing machine, new whatever'....I've heard them, I've seen them, I've worked with them.......and I don't think anyone who hasn't worked with such families really knows exactly what the problems are.     In the social workers/loopy left-wing paradise such people don't exist, or it's always the fault of society......well, no in many cases it's deliberate choices by these families.   They do know better - and they are NOT INTERESTED.

So I would say yes - in certain circumstances sterilisation (male and female) ought to be made compulsory.....some people are a definite waste of space, don't want to be helped, and are a drain...

If it meant no more unwanted, unloved, uncared for and neglected and abused children  - then morally that is a simple decision.

If it means that more decent children are protected then as a society I would say that it is morally right such steps are taken.

Oh dear ......nuclear bunker time I think !!! Byeee....

  5. I really don't think we ought to be talking about an American 'invasion' - please don't - that's not right.

Its humanitarian action on their part;  maybe Haiti does need 'political' changes - but surely that's in the future.

The fact is the USA were there fairly quickly and are geographically closer than most other aid countries.

What I am puzzled about is this;  I can remember seeing pallets of food, water, essential supplies being 'dropped' by parachute from transporter/military aircraft before now   (can't remember now what the reason was - floods, starvation, whatever) - but the need was being met by parachute drops of supplies.    I am surprised that this isn't happening.    Anyone know why not ?

Watching the unloading from cargo aircraft on the news last night it seemed the unloading was so s-l-o-w - by one person handing on a small package to another person.  Very time consuming - very slow....and heart-breaking when you realise the desperate need of these people.

Puts a lot of other problems, and comments, and whinges into perspective - for the moment anyway.

  6. Quillan - totally agree with you - believe it or not.

But - and we both ought to be careful here because the posts could become far too long.

I disagree with a lot that the Commie b---s who call themselves Labour stand for;  I disagree a lot with what the BlueLab stand for;  and what do the LibDems stand for anyway....

We ALL know that what's contained in a manifesto is NOT a promise - it's not binding - it doesn't mean a thing.

I really don't want to vote for 'That' Party.

But it would be a shot across the bows of all the smug b-----s who've got us into this mess.    As you rightly point out the Commie b----s have 'committed the UK to so much, and passed so many new laws it will take a generation to unpick.   So if 'that' Party were to be voted in - or even held balance of power - it would take a long while to unpick.

But it would be a helluva shock to the 'gilded elites' in the EUSSR and the 'establishment' - and for that alone it just has - just this once - to be worth it.

As for the UK 'leaving' the EUSSR - nah - would take a revolution in the UK for that happen - and Revolution and Back-Bone and Spirit and Character seems to have been bred out of the population nowadays.   Look at all the whinging going on about a few inches of snow falling - 'Chicken Little and the World's coming to an end'....sigh

And as for 'kicking the Brits out of France' - yes sure the French might do - but then they'd be saying goodbye to all the UK subsidies for the French Agricultural Policy; all the money that the UK gives to the French Health service - what is it £4000 per person per year; and then there's all the French people in the UK - there's twice as many French people living in the UK than there are Brits in France.....so would France be happy to take back more numbers than they 'kicked out'  ?

Anyway - can I claim the prize for 'Best Reason to 'not like' that lying b----d' -   all the photo's we'll be seeing of them for the next 50 years ?

You are the Great Quillan and I claim the prize !!!

    Bye for now

  7. There are no words strong enough to describe the disgust, hatred and loathing I have of that War Criminal....with the blood of a good, honest man - Dr David Kelly - on his hands.   As well as the deaths of our troops out in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But slightly off topic re change of Government...

I don't get the feeling that the Tories really 'want' to win the next Election;  it's more a case of they'll be elected because the British public are sick of the Commie student Traitors.   It's the Tories - as always - who'll have to pick up the pieces after the country's been kicked to it's knees by the Commie b------s - but this time there's the Cult of Global Warming, and the EUSSR that will be mill-stones around their necks - and make their job ten times worse.    Plus the social cohesion and the 'we're in this together mateys' attitude seems to have been bred out of the UK character as well.    So it's going to be damn tough for the Tories, they don't have a strong leader like Thatcher (who knew damn well what was needed and was prepared to kick any of the useless wet-men right where it hurts to make sure things were done her way).

I would half like to see Labour 'win' the next election - and then to have to face Joe Public when all the cuts in jobs and services will HAVE to take place.   That would be poetic justice.   But this load of Traitors would still then have another 4 or 5 years to finish the total destruction of the UK - which they've pretty much done by now anyway - but they'd take the chance to finally finish the job.  Anyways, there's plenty more for another day !!!!!

As for '...getting the troops home...can't see any party saying that they will really do this....' - sorry but there IS one party that will.   And please - before you all shout at me - I'd suggest you read some of the comment pages from Joe Public on pages in the Telegraph, the Independent, the Times - all from the most unexpected people who are really determined to vote for 'That' Party.   If you were to read these comments you might realise that there is real, real, wide-spread anger and frustration in the UK; a feeling that the present bunch of Traitors have to go ASAP; but there is general unease about the Tories (BlueLabour is one of many apt descriptions); a feeling that the politcal 'elites' - LabConLib - have stitched up the UK, that they're all as bad as one another - and that there is time for a real change - and many people - from surprising quarters - are seriously considering voting for 'That' Party.

And yes - I'm interested in politics; my money is tied up in the UK; my family and grand-children live in the UK - and I care for what future they may have - and for what we may be leaving behind.

Oh dear look at the time - think it's time for my nip of whisky..

Oh - and the worst crime of BLiar ?   - to inflict images of that grotesque 'thing' of a wife of his in all the photos and images for the New Year - New Century 2000 celebrations;   those photos will be taken out every 10, 20, 25, 50 years - just think of our great-grandchildren having to look at that ------- face....Mr & Mrs BLiar's images to be inflicted on the next 10 generations of children.   That HAS to be the worst thing he's done.  !!!!!!!!!     (Oh I'm sorry - probably too flippant - but wanted to lighten the tone after my previous rant about the b-----d and his commie colleagues)

    Nighty night -

  8. Aw cheers mate !!!

Nice comments before Christmas - why try to 'stir' up political comments in this simple question.    And anyway - which Government is it that's trying to weasel out of its DLA payments ?

And why do you think it's going to be a 'Conservative' government ?  It will a hung parliament - with UKIP and BNP and Independents holding the balance.

British public sick of the whole damn lot of them.

Anyway - Happy Christmas Scrooge  XXX

  9. It's interesting to watch the debate on this Forum....and my - don't people get 'scratchy' with one another !!!

    Let's sum it up.

The data is 'dodgy' because it has been 'tweaked', the gauges are in strange places which do not give an accurate long-term record graphs.   There are huge problems with the software being used - it has 'gaps' and odd procedures which computer experts can't explain (basically it's been jigged and re-jigged and altered so many times the foundations and load-bearing walls are at twisted angles).   The records themselves have been used in different ways by different institutions and governments.    The whole thing is a total mess;  and if it weren't so important - for whatever reason - anyone with common-sense would simply say - 'Look, we need to start again;  go through all the records;  re-site the gauges;  get more accurate data...'

The climate may well be changing - but that's what it's done for millions of years.    Maybe the present Ice Age which was forecast in the 1970s and which has now changed into Global Warming - could - just might  - somehow be caused by us - but maybe not.

But there are TWO huge issues not being addressed here.

One - there is OVER POPULATION.   That MUST be addressed;  if we do have 'man made' Global Warming - then there must be steps taken to reduce the world's population growth over the next 20 years.

Two - DEFORESTATION.   The fact that the 'lungs' of the Earth are being destroyed at a terrifying rate is something else that HAS to be addressed very soon.   I was taught (and I don't think the science has changed) that the Amazon Rain Forest - and similar forests - were the system whereby carbon dioxide was taken by the trees/plants and changed and 'breathed out' as oxygen.   If the deforestation was stopped, if more and more trees were planted - then in a space of 10 - 15 years maybe we would see global Warming becoming Global Cooling...!!!!

But anything that involves taxing us, controlling our behaviour, our travel and our freedom - stinks.

Anything that involves these self-important strutting egos - with no understanding of science - who just see 'opportunities' available to make money - stinks.

Anything that involves the billionaire Al Gore (making a fortune from carbon trading (trading in nothing !!) - with Blair in the thick of it, with Mugabe who's got his hands out for the money - stinks, stinks, stinks to high heaven.

While this Cult is allowed to run riot - and the journalists have fogotten their basic training - the the brain-washed masses soak it all up - the whole thing stinks, stinks, stinks.....

And for those of you who refuse to take on board that there are - genuine, well researched, honest scientific studies which do not support the Man-Made Global Warming - I have a challenge for you.

Take a step back - and rethink the whole mess.   Look at who's telling us how to live our lives; look at who/what wants to control our behaviour;  take a look at who is wearing the Emperor's New Clothes.

In other words - be a sceptic - re-read ALL the evidence - not just that which supports your own view.   After all, I'm sure you're all extremeley intelligent; and you haven't been brain-washed - look at it all with a very sceptical eye - and then just stand back and laugh at the self-preening idiots in Copenhagen who have been brain-washed in the name of the Great God Al Gore and his religion of Global Warming.

Wake up for heavens sake - and be far more sceptical.

    Oh dear - I promised I wouldn't do this again - I'm sorry - I'm going to hide again !!!

    Chessie

  10. Its a Con, a Scam - the Great New World Religion.

With the Great High Priest Al Gore (making billions out of Carbon Trading for -----s ake !!!)

Along with B Liar - who now has a new company specially set-up to 'make use' of carbon trading allowances !!!

Plus our Great and Glorious Leader McBroon who - despite the UK being bankrupt - is giving away millions of our money.

But where's the money going ?   President Mugabe was in Copenhagen - you can bet your bottom dollar he's got yet another Swiss bank account set up just so he can keep his Carbon Trading monies separate from the other accounts - filled with hand-outs from the gullible Western 'democracies'..  (And if just seeing Al Gore, BLiar, McBroon and Mugabe in one place at the same time spouting the same nonsense doesn't ring any kind of alarm bells - then one must be stone deaf !!!)

As for trusting any institution, any government, any vested interests - no, never, never, never......they are ALL out for what they can get from the poor little worker ants;  control and tax and tax and control.

The truth is now being told about the statistics; where the temperature gauges are kept - urban heat-sinks;  how some scientific organisations have 'lost' date - LOST data - oh yeah - pull the other leg.

The ordinary Joe Public knows when something is wrong and when we are being lied to - and we can usually work out why.   The truth is now being exposed, layer by layer - and it confirms the total distrust we have in Governments, Scientists, Economists, Bankers - any of them.   But there is nothing we can do - there's been too much brain-washing;  just look at what 'facts' children and young people are now being told.

It'll take 20 or 30 years before it all falls flat on its face; in that time incredible damage will be done to economies that are struggling at the moment.

And just think how foolish all these Cult believers will seem in future years - and how they will be aughed at.   But then future generations will turn and look at us and say 'how could they have been so stupid - and so afraid to take action - and to have let the Cult take over the world like that !!!

    Sigh - I think I'll hide my soap-box again for a few weeks  !!!

    Chessie

  11. Buelligan -

Re-read my post please - I said 'An Aetheist living in France'...I did NOT say I was an Aetheist - do not put words into my mouth.  I was merely suggesting the terminology that an Aetheist might well use to describe all the religious icons that are dotted around France.

I did NOT state what my religious persuasion is...I am merely pointing out a different viewpoint  about the religious icons...and just how the French would react if it were suggested that they be removed - and CHANGED  the character of France by INCOMERS, NON-INDIGINEOUS PEOPLES - whether they be blue, green, orange, purple, or little green men.

My point was that the French would not appreciate Incomers trying to change their history and tradition.   So why when the Brits protest are they called Racist.

Even our wonderful Saviour of the World Gordon Brown has said 'It is NOT Racist to discuss immigration numbers'...

    Chessie

  12. Please be careful Quillan.

What you are describing as 'pet dog' was a very, very, tiny minority of people who did this.   Wholesale immigration/slave labour into the UK did NOT happen.   The UK was involved the slave trade, as were the AFRICAN CHIEFS THEMSELVES.   Lovely way for them to 'remove' their troublesome neighbours.

Who abolished the slave trade?  The UK.  The Good old United Kingdom were the first to stop the trade, (William Wilberforce - maybe you've heard of him?) and spoke out very forcefully to have it abolished.

The fact that the Americans feel great guilt/distress/unhappiness over the way later generations of people removed from Africa who were eventually freed in the US of A - has NOTHING to do with the UKs attitude to immigration.

The UK is being changed - for the worse - by large numbers of non-Christian people who DO WANT OUR LAWS CHANGED.   You just cannot equate English people moving to France, and starting a business, and supporting local schools - and shops, with what is happening in the UK.    There is absolutely no comparison and you do yourself no favours by reducing it to such simplistic levels.

If you want to start pointing a finger at the UKs history - how about looking at what France has done as her Imperial Powers were used across the world ?   Or Spain...or the Dutch - or the Russians or the Persians or the Turks or the Ottomans.

EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY/Nation has its dark patches.   But to try and pretend it's only the UK that has a murky past, and that every other country is squeaky clean is sheer, unadulterated nonsense.

As for the attitude of the French towards the Brits.   They believe that we will all 'go home' return to our own country at some time in the future.   That none of us are here permanently...so they don't mind us being here; they'll take the benefits we may bring and not worry.

BUT - if WE wanted to change their laws or their ways of doing things - then they would - rightly - start to protest.

An Aetheist living in France would, I am sure, have real problems with the 'Religioust Flim Flam' around the place.   All the statues in the villages to this Woman in a Blue Cloak, or to that Cross or Crucifix or that Man hanging on a Cross.    I find it offensive to see such things in towns and countries - they are obvious signs of religious brain-washing.   What do you think the reaction would be of the French if there was a concerted move, by a small group of non-believers, who said that they found such 'icons' extremeley offensive and wished to have them removed.

The French would be up in arms.   And yet the UK indigenous population is supposed to accept - without any murmer or protest - groups of immigrants into our country who not only wish to change our way of life, our laws and our attitudes about free speech - but also with to IMPOSE THEIR VALUES ON A WHITE CHRISTIAN COUNTRY.

What the heck is going on with people.   Why is there no pride in the UK and our past values, innovations, inventions and all the other good things that have come from the UK.   Why is there always this need or attitude to 'put down' or sneer at the UK and the good that has been done by the UK.

Why do some people seem to hate their own country and people and tradition and history and culture...

I know what such people were called during the War - remember ?  When two silly little leaders of two pathetic little countries who couldn't live in peace and harmony with each other started a bit of a 'punch up' ?

Oh dear - I think I'm heading for the hills.

    Chessie

  13. I've read all the above posts....I saw Question Time...and I have family in the UK.

I really must take issue with some of the terribly condescending and patronising comments here.

The British DO feel under threat in the UK.    If any of you read ANY of the UK daily newspapers - including the Daily Mail (and the fact that I include the Daily Mail indicates that I know how many of you feel about that paper - but believe it or not THAT newspaper articulates perfectly what a great number of UK people feel and are worried about).     And when I say UK people - I do include the Asians, the Indians, the Afro-Carribeans - everyone.

Just as much as the indigenous (ie the white Anglo-Saxon who can trace family history back over 500 or 600 years) - the economic immigrants and now British citizens who arrived in the 1950s are JUST as concerned about the NUMBERS of immigrants as the indigenous population

So PLEASE - S T O P  THE   B------Y sneering at the concerns of the ordinary little worker ants who can see their schools being over-crowded, the social housing no longer available to the indigenous population, the pressures on health services, the demands on transport, the destruction of our green fields (which instead of being kept for agricultural purposes - to FEED ourselves) - is being concreted over for housing - for untold number of immigrants.

See today's Daily Mail - it has now been admitted that it was an OFFICIAL and Deliberate policy for the UK to be flooded with immigrants - didn't matter from where, didn't matter their backgrounds - it was a DELIBERATE DESTRUCTION of a tolerant and fair-minded society.

That Straw thingy couldn't answer the question from one of the few White people in the QT audience about how the Labour Party's 'policy' on immigration had driven many people to vote for the BNP.

The Labour Party planned the Deliberate destruction of the cohesion and kindness and tolerance and decency of the Anglo Saxon White British person......

And you LOT dare to sneer at people who are unhappy about the destruction of their society.

Why is it Racist to stand up for your country and history and culture and traditions ?

The Africans stand up for themselves don't they in their own country - isn't that what they're doing in Zimbabwe ?

The French stand up for themselves - they are now planning a DAY to commemorate being French.

And if the British tried that - we'd be told it was racist.

And as for not believing the stupidity that goes on in the UK, I had personal experience of NOT being able to put up leaflets in my local library (paid for out of my taxes) for a Christmas Carol service at the local Parish Church - on the grounds that 'others might find it offensive' !!!!!!   A Christian carol service at Christmas time - a Christian Festival in a Christian country could not be advertised in the local library......So those stories which some of you consider to be 'urban myths' - I can tell you from first hand experience THEY ARE NOT, NOT, NOT.

The UK people have had enough - they have not been listened to.

So of course they'll turn to other political parties - and who can blame them ?

And I really do worry about the future for my family back in the UK....it is not going to be the bright and happy future I hoped for them - or that I experienced growing up.

They'll cope, they'll adapt...but it will be a nastier society because of the pressures caused by sheer volume of numbers.

And now I'm putting my head below the parapet !!!!   Bon soir XXX

  14. I've had enough - I really and truly have had enough of France.

We're sitting in the house, on one of the hottest evenings of the summer - and ALL THE WINDOWS ARE CLOSED !!!

Because our neighbour, 200 yards away - has lit a flamin' BONFIRE - another one - this is the THIRD bonfire this week.

Every time they have a bonfire, we have to shut our windows.     No cooling breezes, no enjoyment of the crickets, or listening to the owls - nothing.    Windows are SHUT.

This is yet another of the 'Quaint' French customs I've had enough of - I really, really can't take much more.

I've complained and moaned on this site before about bonfires.   We don't feel we can complain - either to them or the Mairie - because our French isn't good enough.    Besides, they are French farmers aren't they - the rules don't apply to them, do they ?   The French don't regard any rules as applying to them, do they ?

And besides, we should be 'integrating' shouldn't we ?  And accepting their ways.

These bonfires stink to high heaven; now it smells as though it's plastic that is being burned because it has a horrible, acrid smell.   And if we are fortunate and no bonfire has been lit by about 9 or 10 pm, for some reason they then light a bonfire at about 12 midnight, and then the fumes waft in the open bedroom window and I've woken up choking at about 3 or 4 am before now.

  15. Thanks Chris and Sharkhunter (!! ?) for your very informative comments.   (Chris - I did send a copy of the original article to your office  by snail-post because when I tried to scan and send it wouldn't work......thanks very much for 'picking up' this subject).

Doesn't matter the 'technique' the hunters use  -  it is still a very large animal being shot with a strongbow.

And you can classify any animal in any way   - but it is STILL  BAMBI - being hunted, and shot with arrows.

And thanks for the extra info Chris about birds  -  I am so appalled and horrified at what the French do to their animals, their country-side and their wild-life.

And NO - I do NOT love the 'quaint' French ways....I HATE the 'quaint' French ways.

Why are the French allowed to get away with so much animal cruelty when it would not be tolerated in the UK - or any other civilised country.

After all we stopped throwing Christians to the Lions didn't we ?   We stopped bear baiting didn't we ?   We stopped drowning and burning witches didn't we ?   Badger baiting, hare coursing is illegal in the UK;  fox-hunting is semi-illegal - but some kind of progress was being made.

And the French are still killing the skylarks.......it just makes you want to weep.

The French think they're so b----y superior with their 'traditions', and their 'culture', and their 'cuisine'....

Sorry but I don't think so.

  16. Anyone else noticed this ?

We've been buying 'Whiskers' (guess [;-)]!!) cat food in sachets -  'Repas en Sauce' and 'Repas en Gelee' for quite some time in all the varieties - ie Dinde, Poulet, Boeuf, Canard etc etc.    But in the last few months the contents of these sachets of cat food just seem to have become more and more 'stinky'.

The cat food just doesn't smell very nice at all - it's not 'off' but just very pongey;  open a sachet and - no matter what the flavour is supposed to be - they are all extremely pungent and smell rather like a cow barn at the end of winter when the barn hasn't been cleared out for six months.

Anyone got any explanation for why these cat food sachets have this overwhelming pong?   The sachets aren't out of date, all have 'use by' dates well into 2011 - so that's not the problem.

The 'whiff' is so bad that it permeates through the house - I can smell this flippin' cat food everywhere.   The cat hasn't seemed bothered by the 'pong' - but we've noticed that in the last few days even he's not too keen - and tonight was the final straw when, having put some of this catfood out for him, he walked up to the bowl, sniffed - and then stalked away.   That's the first time he's done that - so maybe even he no longer likes the 'whiff'.

But that's it....we are NOT buying this brand of cat food any more - never again.   It's banned !!!

And I'll be writing to the makers to ask what the heck they've been adding to their catfood.

But intrigued as to whether anyone else had noticed and was bothered by the 'pong' !!!

  17. Thanks Baz and MikeinFrance - and everyone else.

But d - o - h .....cookies deleted - yes.    But no-one told me till it was too late was that if I deleted all my pretty little cookies that I'd lose EVERY single password, username, forum name - every - flpippin - password !!!   And I've got different passwords for different sites because I understood that - for security - it was best not to use same password all the time...and now I've been caught out !!!!

And can I remember them all ?  !!!

And have I written them all down somewhere safe ?  !!!

And even if I had written them all down somewhere safe - would I be able to find the piece of papers (or more likely, info on Post-It notes scattered in various places ?  !!!!)

D-o-h   -  that sound you can hear is me banging my head against another 'techie' brick-wall !!!  Sounds just like the death watch beetle.

So I shall have to do a bit more 'fiddling' with this PC;  take it back to last setting prior to deleting cookies, work out those I want to keep, delete the rest - and keep fingers and tozzies and everything else crossed and hope for the best !!!!

But thanks everyone for advice and info - it's been very interesting.

And if you hear screams of rage and anguish from the middle of France - just ignore me !!!!

    Regards - Chessie[:)]

  18. Thanks everyone !!

Clair - I did try 'deleting cookies'....and it seemed to work.     Can now get on-line, read pages - no problems.

So many thanks - 10 gold stars to you.

But why should 'cookies' cause the problem ?

And also interesting to note that others  (Cathy and Woolybanana) think Telegraph has been a bit 'slow' .

So it might have been techie problems at DT after all  OR - it could have been the cookies....never know, now  !!!

But at least it's working OK again.

Thanks everyone for help.Big Smile [:D]

  19. OK OK - have to admit it now....I do like my daily dose of UK news and gossip and the Daily Telegraph website is one I do read.

However, since yesterday afternoon it has been impossible to access DT's website - still won't download - still won't do anything.

Anyone else has similar problems ?   Any ideas as to why I'm not able to access their web-site ?

It's not an on-line subscription problem - just their general webpages - anyone know if they're having - another - techie problem ?

    Regards - Chessie

  20. Framboise - What a fabulous photo....

And an explanation for the sky colour -   a volcanic explosion in the southern pacific has sent clouds of ash and dust up into the atmosphere and been blown across the Atlantic and Northern Europe.

Apparently the sunsets for the next couple of weeks should be pretty special.

And you've managed to catch one....excellent....let's see some more !!!

  21. Dooh....oh dear, oh dear.

Now look you lot;   you are all obviously very bright - but very Bored - entrepreneurs, budding Richard Bransons who want to have a go at The Apprentice or enter The Dragon's Den.

What started off as a simple idea to store 1 car on a bit of spare ground - you flippin' lot have galloped away with the idea and turned it into a multi-storey car-park, with park-and-ride and goodness knows what else to become millionaires - and then someone comes along and mentions 'cash in hand'....and we then - oh Lordy - we get the 'breaking the law' brigade on here.

For heavens sake the lot of you - just stop it  !!!!

One car, one spare piece of ground - an elderly retired UK ex-Pat couple whose income is BELOW any tax threshold and who might like like a few extra Euros each year - now that does not justify the wrath of the 'you must tell the tax people' brigade....And it doesn't even have to be retired exPats; I should imagine retired French couple might also appreciate a few extra Euros as well - and the 'below tax threshold' could equally apply to them.   We are NOT all rich and pay sqillions in tax every year you know.  Some of us don't qualify for that perk  !!

And to Mogs - Now Look at What You Started !!!   - but best of luck - I'd try asking around or advertising;   if we lived nearer Bergerac I'd be very happy to help - would even put on my chauffeur uniform and ferry you and collect you.   Hope you find someone who can help.

And best of luck with your two-way lifestyle - but possibly the best of both worlds !!!

    Regards - Chessie

  22. Well done kenm -

Now that is what's called 'lateral thinking'   -  I did wonder if someone was going to suggest this.

Another alternative - in the Bergerac area there are lots of houses/farmhouses with large grounds, parking areas, barns for storage etc..

In the UK people are earning a few extra squids by letting their garage for storage, or even the space on their drive for parking during the day.

Maybe someone with a lot of space, reasonably close to the airport, wouldn't mind 'storing' your car in return for payment - and then a quick taxi trip to the airport - might be a way round the problem and possibly halve the financial costs of airport car-parking.......

    Best of luck

    Chessie

  23. Clair - your postie must be a genuis !!!

As for all the other info - well - ROFL.  I'm just a naive little soul who believes what peoples tell me.    Really thought our village number was unique for our village - what do I know !!!

I am surprised that Napoleon hadn't got round to numbering every single village, hamlet, commune in every Department - he must have got side-tracked somewhere or another.   But very interesting comments - you live and learn  !!!!

It would seem that the little yellow van drivers do an excellent job out here, coping with houses with no names, identical owners names for 3 different houses, and dealing with all the 'unexpected'  hazards on French rural roads.

    Happy days.

    Regards - Chessie

  24. I'm confused by some of the replies here.

Certainly in towns and cities there are more likely to be house numbers rather than names.

    But in rural France ?

Where we live, EVERY house has a name - no number at all...and they are owned mostly, or until recently, by generations, by French people - not English !!!

As for 'JR's gone native' post about 'post code' shared with 100,000 communes - uhmmmm - not certain that is strictly correct.

I had always thought that the 'code' as such is split - the first 2 numbers are the Department number, and the remaining 3 numbers are the number of a particular village....which makes it easy for Le Poste.

Or have I got that wrong ?

    Chessie
