Hi Misty When we laid a solid oak parquet flooring to the lounge, we used a Starwax teinte from Bricomarche applying two even coats using a clean rag after initially cleaning the boards with methylated spirit (alchool a bruler) to ensure the boards are dust free and then applying 3 coats of a clear cire varnish - purchased from Brico Depot using a clean paint brush. As the room is very large and will take quite a lot of wear and tear it was felt that applying the 3rd coat would be beneficial. In both instances, the cost for tint and varnish was reasonable. Two litres of tint at 8euros per litre. Ten litres of varnish at 53 euros the 10litre carton. Bricomarche are usually dearer than Brico Depot but generally the products are superior. Brico Depot quite often have deals which are advertised in their "freebie" mags. Both products were excellent. We unfortunately, used a Dulux varnish brought over from England, for the pine wood floor in our bedroom which started to peel before we had chance to put the furniture back. We then had to sand the boards back to original necessitating a job being done twice. Not a very joyful experience. We have since used the same products as in the lounge without a problem. Good luck.
