  1. We looked at some properties in Masseret- doesn't the tower remind you of the princesses tower in Shrek!!
  2. Glad all worked out well Cap'n maybe there's hope for us yet! Hopefully now completing on 29th May- willbe able to compare jungles as well as holes in roof ha ha. Incidentally does anyone have any tips on grazing rights- we have 5 acres of good grazing and would like to let someone use it  until we are out there permanently in 2-3 years time, but have heard horror stories of not getting it back etc
  3. Well Cap'n hope you have better luck than us looks like it will be the end of May now before we complete... and just to add insult to injury we sold half our garden to help finance the French house... the son of unknown parentage who bought it has put it back on the market after 3 weeks at double the price he paid us for it!! they say there's one born every minute... you're lookin' at two of them he obviously saw us coming...
  4. depends on time of day... lunch time a pastis or two and evening a large glass of red... Have just found out our Notaire is in hospital- how inconsiderate is that (ha ha) so looks like we wont be completing after all next week... watch this space
  5. hope all goes well Cap'n we're still waitin on Notaire ( world's slowest?) made our offer on dec 3rd is it normal to take so long anyone tell me?
  6. Can anyone give me advice on how to find reputable tradesmen- nearing completion on house purchase and first thing will be installing a fosse as there isn't one- also needing some guttering fixed. We're new to all this and probably a bit wet behind the ears! The husband is the original DIY Disaster so I'd rather someone else up ladders etc! Any advice gratefully received
  7. Thats really bad news, sorry to hear about your problems. Does the farmer use the track regularly or could you come to some agreement about re-routing it? We had a right of way going straight through our back garden here, but managed to get it changed so that they took a metre off the back of the garden and made a new path there. Don't expect the french farmer would be so reasonable!! Better you found out now though- are you still going ahead?
  8. Any news on your sale yet Cap'n we're still waitin on the notaire- husband reckons he's done a runner with the deposit...
  9. Daughter's fiance is well keen fisherman so i'm sure he'll be keen to visit!! We're also booked week of 23 but may have to delay if notaire not ready. We have to put a fosse in and a bathroom, roof not too big a problem we hope but not seen it since the beginning of December and with all this rain... havent got any decent pics yet but watch this space... Will you be moving out permanently? Ours will be a holiday home for next year or two until we can sort out youngest daughter who's just finishing A levels . The husband works for a French tuck firm so spends most of his time over there- language coming along famously even if he does sound like Officer crabtree from Allo Allo... Regards, linda
  10. At least you've seen your house in the sun... we havent yet! We do have a roof on ours but it has a large hole in it.! Also waiting to complete but the notaire doesn't seem in any great hurry. Is your lake meant to be there?
  11. Hope you're enjoyin' your dinner! We've got some rain here in Suffolk... they're talking about hosepipe bans and standpipes in the streets - thats something to look forward to this summer!
  12. Thanks folks! Of course I meant the Achat de Vente not compromis duh! As soon as we have a definite date will be in touch- how are you finding life out there? Ours will be a holiday home for the next two years until youngest daughter leaves home then we plan to move out permanently, any tips appreciated!
  13. Hello all you Correziennes ( if thats how you spell it!) could anybody recommend accommodation in the Lagrauliere/Uzerche area for when we come out to sign our compromis- sometime in late April we think... but not holding our breath! House won't be fit to stay in for a while so we need cheap and cheerful lodgings. The husband is reasonably house trained...
  14. Glad to hear it doesn't always rain- we've yet to see our house in the sun!!
  15. Hi All also would like information on the Correze particularly the La grauliere and Uzerche areas as we are have just signed our compromis and hope to own our home by the end of April. Advice on good tradesmen especially welcome as it will be a real labour of love (we havent even seen it in sunshine yet!!) Any tips gratefully received
