  1. Frequently find the letters 'NC' in property ads, usually those of the FNAIM group when describing some feature. Driving us barmy - please someone tell us what they mean!   Bob & Jane
  2. Thanks Phil for a very short and helpful answer, seems to solve my query   Mazan - I know that personal email addresses are available form all and sundry but I wish to keep my existing ones and existing bookmarks held in AOL, that's why I wish to remain with them As for your perceived diasdvatges I ahve been with AOL for six years now and see no reason to ditch what is to me a satisfactory service - apart from from the 0800 Helpdesk which is now in the Indian subcontinent. Bob & Jane
  3. We are moving to 24 in early March and wish to use AOL (yes, we've heard all the amusing commants, ta vary much!) as there is a considerable number of things we use linked with aol, personal email addresses, bookmarks etc and wonder if there is a way of still accessing these via aol.fr. Any advice welcome ....
  4. We are moving to 24 on 8 March and would like to invest in some Euro savings accounts rather than sterling, obvioulsy with a reasonable rate of return. Web searches have not proved very successful - has anyone any suggestions please?   Bob & Jane
  5. Works for me - had the jab for the past five years and no flu! As others have said it is only effective against certain strains but better some protection than none at all IMHO   Bob
  6. We are moving to 24 in less than a months time and have a similar situation. I currently have Severe Disabiltiy Allowance which Newcastle agrees can be taken to France with me. Be aware, however, that although you may draw UK State Pension in France the Pension Credit Top-up does not apply.   Hope that helps and we wish you both all the best for your move   Bob & Jane
  7. We had no problems with a Maestro card last September in 85 & 17 at Leclerc and a few restaurants. Just hope that thing s haven't changed when we move permanently to 24 in a few weeks time!   Bob & Jane
  8. Know where you can buy some water sheep, unsure as to hydrailic rams though ...   Bob & Jane
  9. We are moving to France shortly and understand that basically a patient pays 30% of medical fees etc which can be recovered in the correct course of events. My husband has an ongoing cardiac conditon and diabetes which require regular medication. Are medications etc for such conditions subject to the 30% payment or are there arrangements whereby such fees are waived. Any advice welcomed please.   Jane
  10. We are RAC members in the UK, although using their services little (thankfully!) it is reassuring should the need arise. Are there similar services in France, if so what has been member's experiences of them?   Bob & Jane
  11. Thanx for replies so far - much appreciated!   Would a bank statement suffice bearing your French address as proof - just a thought.   Bob & Jane
  12. We are moving shortly to France into rented premises whilst we find a suitable permanent home. We want to buy a LHD car - one problem would seem to be that we will not have any utility bills as we are paying an all-inclusive rent and wish to buy within about 4 weeks of arriving. Ant advice welcomed please ....   Bob & Jane
  13. Thanks for all your help and advice. Seems as though it may be another path to explore for us.   Bob & Jane
  14. Thanks for all your advice, it has helped to clarify things a bit for us. Must say this Forum is great, very helpful and interesting in all maner of things.   Thanks again   Bob & Jane
  15. Hoping to move soon from UK. Has anyone bought from a private vendor rtaher than an agent? If so what is the procedure compared to using an agent. Appreciate that obviously agents fees are avoided but what other costs are there and are there any pitfalls for the unwary please.   Bob & Jane
  16. Thanks for all your advice concerning our problem. Stiiltrying the bridging loan route for the moment.   Celine - would love to see your website, what is the address please!   Bob & Jane
  17. Thanx for reply Chas. Unfortunately we don't have that option becuase of two animals that have to come with us.   Bob & Jane
  18. We are about to visit 16 & 17 to view and hopefully buy a property to retire in. This is dependent upon the sale of our existing UK property for funding the purchase. Due to our situation we need to complete UK sale the same day as our French purchase so that we are able to move out and in on the same or following day.   A bridging loan is needed for the deposit as our sale is not complete. As we understand the situation the balance for the property we shall be buying must be with the notaire on the day of signing. Obviously this cannot be funded directly from our sale proceeds as there is a time element in transfer of funds.Would a bridging loan for the balance be payable on the day of signing as well or could it be repaid a few days after?   What have other LF members experienced and can any offer suitable advice please as we seem to be in a Caatch 22 game at present.   Thanx   Bob & Jane
