  1. Well, I am impressed by wanadoo Signed up with them on Saturday morning, got no e-mail confirmation, but the web site gave me my user name and password. On Saturday afternoon my ADSL connection stopped working. Got in touch with Gamboo - they suggested problem with DSLAM card in exchange. Got to thinking - could Wanadoo/FT have changed the connection over? Fired up my iMac this morning, changed the name and password to the one Wanadoo gave me and ADSL working again. Only now I am getting 7616 down and 320 up. So, no software to install, no modem change, just name and password, everything working fine.
  2. Thanks all, seems I am constrained by geography. Mind you, my gamboo connection failed this afternoon - must be the bad karma of me thinking about leaving them. I have now decided to sign up with wanadoo 8 mb service - will let you know how I got on.
  3. I use telerabais http://www.telerabais.com/ now for all my calls. especially to mobiles in the UK, as they work out at €0.15 per minute for that, and just local french rate for calls to landlines in the UK. I was a bit worried in the first month, because I thought it might be a scam, but it has proved to be what it says. You do have to dial an access number first then type in 00 44 29865etc... and it does not like 0800 or 0870 numbers, but apart from that is okay.
  4. I currently have an ADSL 1mb connection with Gamboo (€30 per month, pretty reliable). However I have been looking around and it seems that Wanadoo can give me "Extensis Debit Max " for €30 per month, rising to €40 after 6 months. According to a test site (www.degrouptest.com), I am only 710 metres from the exchange with an Affaiblissement (Attenuation?) of 0.15db, which means I can get 8192 kbps now and 25600 with ADSL 2+. So, I am thinking of changing, but was wondering if there is any competition or am I in a zone that has yet to be "degrouped" and therefore Wanadoo/France Telecom are the only players.? I live in Plouescat and my postcode is 29430. Are Wanadoo any good? It also seems hard to find out what the upload speed is on debit max, as 128 is a bit slow for video conferencing with iChat.
  5. When you get you mac, you wil find a link to viammichelin.com in Safari (Apple's own web browser) that I use all the time for route planning. It even gives you the state of the weather en route.
  6. According to David Hampshire's "Living & Working in France", one gets a 'Carnet de Sante' for your child from the Mairie. However we have been up to ask and the clerk said they don't issue them, though they are dealing with our Titre de Sejour applications.. Any idea where we get one from? She is 13 and about to start school in Plouescat (29).
  7. (Aplogies for cross posting) I want to buy a new Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet in Dept 29. Is it worth visiting lots of dealers or do they all have the same list price and discount? How much discount should I expect for a cash purchase and no part exchange? Anybody any idea on how long delivery should take? Do only the large Renault garages (eg in Brest & Morlaix) sell new cars or can your local Renault garage get one for you?
