  3. Oh and no tax on the Skype calls if when you sign up you say you live outside Europe It's 1.7cents/minute plus about 0.3 cents/minute for avarage dialup charge The beauty is that skype to skype is free and the very highest quality audio, ideal for talking to Grandma
  4. I'm sure this has been mentioned before as Voice over IP is not that new but I just got connected and spent 2 days on the phone to UK pals and family for about £2 www.skype.com also check out http://www.cleiss.fr/international.html for any social security/benefits questions
  5. This is the site for you It's in 5 languages and totally explains all benefits for all people living in France. I'm a single parent and I'm now going to get a decent benefit to help me out. Better than UK benefits. http://www.cleiss.fr/international.html

  7. Thanks for the advice. I will sign off UK benefits now and get down the Marie. I am confused about tax as I'm earning money from UK contracts so do I keep doing Tax returns from UK using a french address? I get some earnings from local french employment so I guess this goes on the French tax declaration. Tax is a nightmare, time to get self-sufficient! Jim
  8. Hi I live in 58 with my boy who will be 3 in 1 week. We moved in 4 weeks ago and need to sort out French benefits before ending UK tax credits and child benefit. My boy attends the local ecole maternelle 4 mornings/wk. Any advice? Jim in
  9. Thanks Ron That's encouraging. But I believe that FT are still keen to get local support from the commune ie 100 interested subscribers and there are only 150 in my commune including kids. I have decided to wait as you know 2 way sat is very expensive and unreliable. Are you on a wireless network? Is it wifi or wimax?
  10. I write music for films and I am always receiving and sending big files (average 30 Mb) so Broadband is useful. I could camp out in the nearest Cybercafe in Chateau Chinon but the missus would leave me. Would a second PSTN line be any better or cheaper than ISDN? Would the wine taste better?
  11. I need to borrow a car trailer so I can rescue my ageing Riley from the UK. Can anyone in 58 help?
  12. Hi I live in the Morvan, miles from ADSL Can anyone recommend a 2 way satellite broadband provider. The cheapest in the UK is Silvermead at £50 per month ans £1200 install. I believe there is a French provider at around 75 Euro per month but who are they? Jim
