  1. Help please. am planning a mezzanine and staircase thereto. Am puzzled by a carpentry term "chafreinees". No joy from dictionary, book of builders term and teh Living France translation service on this site. Can anyone enlighten me with what it means please?   GrahamS
  2. Hi all, Would appreciate some advice from the experienced France dwellers. Having a little problem with Cartes Vitales for me and my wife. Applied in April with E106 for me and E121 for my wife (she already receives UK state pension). Initial visit to CPAM went well but, after about 6 weeks delay and no receipt of cards, went to bureau again. It appears that department head office had sat on application! Duly received call about a week later to the effect that "E106 for me not accepted but, no problem, you come under wife's E121. Cartes Vitales on their way." By early August, with no sign of cards, contacted local office again (by fax as it is some 55 km away) and, lo and behold, a card for my wife arrived within a week. I assumed that mine would follow in due course. However, I did notice that the accompanying attestation made no mention of other beneficiaries. On returning from holiday this week, nothing has arrived and I have now refaxed local bureau to ask what is going on. Awaiting action!!   Main question is: has anyone else experienced similar circumstances - if so, what outcome? Supplementary question: wife's attestation states " HOSPITALISATION ET SOINS EXTENES HORS BUDGET GLOBAL" - can anyone explain this to us please?   Thanks in anticipation, Graham S
  3. Hi Dale (again), Just seen your plea re white goods - no need to worry! There is an Expert store on teh outskirts of La Clayette that is similar to Comet in the UK and sells that sort of electric appliance. There are also retailers in La Clayette itself - both deliver (usually free with 10 km) and their prices are the same or better than the bigger store - we had to replace our old washing machine some months ago and teh best deal was from teh local shop in Chauffailles. There is also a furniture store opposite Expert in La Clayette that should sort you furniture problem in the same way. Graham
  4. Hi all of you adopted Bourgognians(?) - we hope to be joining you in August. We will just qualify as being in Bourgogne - the house is in a little hamlet between Chauffailles and Charlieu but officially in Soane et Loire (71). Like you we wonder(worry) about what we have taken on - the house is solid and needs little work but things like fosse septique (no sanitation there at all), plumbing, etc all need doing. I reckon we will be lucky to be inside the house to live by Christmas - we will live in our caravan in teh garden for now. We are really looking forward to being there and all the posts have given us encouragement. Graham & Mary Stewart
  5. Small disaster has struck our initial plans for kitchen renovation in newly acquired Bourgogne farmhouse - Rayburn have stopped production of oil fired cooker (with central heating) Heatranger model we intended buying in France. UK model still in production but uses different fuel type. Some time ago in Living France I remember someone advertising renovated Rayburns. Anyone used them or know how I might contact them? Tried searching the Forum but no joy.
