Sue, what about the oe together as in coeur? And the 2 dots as in Citroen?

    Recap :

The umlaut ¨ you can get by quickly pressing the 'shift/caps' key and the umlaut key (just above ^ on the same key) at the same time, let go, followed by the letter you want to use the symbol with ..

    so o .. shift/umlaut/followed by o .. ö

    u .. ü etc

    New version :

Ah .. what I have discovered is that to be able to write in lower case .. you mustn't hold the shift key down too long, whilst making a quick jab at the ¨ , LET GO OF BOTH, then click on whichever letter which requires the umlaut.

If you hold both the shift key and the ¨ down together with the u at the same time for a while then the upper case Ü appears.

It takes a bit of practice .. persevere

So all three together = capital with umlaut

Shift/ ¨ let both go then input letter = lower case with umlaut.

    ü ü Ü Ü ü ü Ü Ü

    Hi,

for œ hold down your Alt key and type 0156 on the numeric pad. We had ro learn that one last year when we moved to Avenue Richard Cœur de Lion ..........

Brilliant .. that works, even on a laptop .. so that now completes the solving of Mint's accent/orthographic problems.

    Yay ???

The times I've said to OH, dont worry, I'll ask on the forum and someone is BOUND to know. Indeed that has always been the case.

    (Sue, look at my ê!!!!!)

Brilliant ? .. did you catch my latest post on that thread .. about the umlaut or " ?

How nice to read such a positive thread..

I like to think I have contributed, but I have also had excellent advice.

Me too .. though I find it very puzzling why so many people read posts but don't make any comments .. or make exceedingly few.

I have a built in autocorrect on my laptop .. which underlines in red my mistakes or omissions .. and when I right click on the erroneous word a list appears giving me a choice of correction.

You might have this too .. tho I need to try to find out out how I have this.

    I could be a while .. ?

Otherwise unless it's an accent already on my AZERTY keyboard, I carry on merrily without! But then I have to contend with Wooly who has pretended he doesn't understand what I have written!

You're mostly there as you have most of the accents you need under the numbers, except for ù which is to the right of the M key on my keyboard.

Then there is the ^ .. this is to the right of the P key on my keyboard.

If you hold it down and also hold down the 'a' key at the same time .. â appears as if by magic .. then let go of both keys together.

    Repeat with o .. ô .. and u .. û .. any letter you like.

Wooly, don't be cruel; I don't know how to put a circumflex on the "a".

Now's the time to learn .. what are you using to access the forum .. tablet/laptop/pc ?

Actually it’s probably more remunerative for Archant if we make a point of clicking on the adverts. I am feeling a bit grumpy about them at the mo', as both sides of my iPad screen are cut off by them, so I am typing this blnd; please excuse any typos...

Have you zoomed in .. using 2 fingers .. to expand the part of the forum you want to see clearly. This usually means that the adverts are pushed out of view.

Or is your problem different ?

There are only two rules in this prison, Are you listening to me ALBF ? One: You do not write on the walls. Two: You obey all the rules.

If the above is you being all grown up and following the rules ..

then why are you still in this 'prison' ?

You have a voice and you have a choice ..

I think it may only be a problem with the text wording on the Avis.

If you look carefully you will see the figure shown in the Prélèvements sociaux au taux de 17,2% PSOL line is the same as calculated at 7.5% earlier.

So it is just the wording of those last lines mentioning 17.2% which is incorrect. The calculation was done using 7.5%.

Thank you pomme .. you are completely right (smiley face)

Following your post I have had a more in-depth look at the prélèvements sociaux section and the wording is exactly as you describe .. I think the confusion arose in my mind as the first part of the calculation was on the bottom of page 2 and continued (with the 17.2% bit my eyes were drawn to) on page 3.

Lesson hopefully learnt .. I should not be in such a hurry and should not speed read through.

    Huge thanks once again ..

did you tick the box saying you were covered for health by an eu country. 8SH.

    JFB

    PS still time to correct

Yes .. definitely did that .. plus put message in the part where you can inform them of any additional info.

Further appraisal of declaration required tho it seems to be as it should be ..

Last year I received a credit revenu etrangers (51) against the 7.5% ps charge on investment income. This year no credit appeared . Is this due to something I may or may not have done on the tax return?

On the same lines .. we (also in 56) received our avis d'impôts yesterday .. to discover we had been charged 17.2% contributions sociales on our investment income .. instead of the 7.5% we paid last year as S1 holders.

So our tax bill more than doubled at a stroke.

Has anyone else had this .. or is it back to asking (delicately) for a 'remboursement' ?

We've only just received the refund of the contrib. soc. overpaid for 2015-2017 .. plus a minimum amount of interest.

    Heaven forfend.

Ok, I need a second sim which will also be infrequently used. I already have the second phone.

In that case .. as has been pointed out .. there is no advantage staying with Sosh/Orange unless there's is the best signal you can receive in your area.

For 1€50 a month you can sign up with Reglo mobile (used to be LeClerc mobile). All calls/SMS are charged for BUT the first 1€50 of calls and SMS etc are included and the charges only start to apply after. This uses SFR as a network carrier .. v easy to organise online though there is a small charge for the new SIM.

There are other options too .. the 3€50 per month forfeit includes 250MO data and some calls .. it depends what you need.

Free at 2€ a month .. gives 2 hours of free calls included, SMS and a very small amount of data too. Uses Free's own network which does struggle in a few areas and their data allowance is practically non-existant.

Sosh costs from 4€99 a month .. not worth it in my view unless you have no option.

There are others but it will depend on what works well in your area.

I have a Sosh contract which includes one mobile phone with plenty enough bytes, etc for my purposes.

Does anyone know if it is possible to add another mobile and how much extra it would cost?

I'm not quite clear what you have at present and what you want to have.

Do you mean your contract came with a phone and a sim ? Or just a sim ?

Do you mean add a different SIM card to your number or do you mean a new separate SIM card and second number ?

What kind of contract would this second sim need ?

I.e. what kind of data and calls does this second sim card need ?

A separate SIM .. would need to be put in a different phone.

I'm a freelancer from Belarus but now I live in France and would like to organize the fastest process of transferring money to my family in Minsk. What bank cards could you recommend to use worldwide with minimum fees.

TransferWise have a bank account, with a card, which might suit you very well if you are planning on regular payments.

It can work out cheaper than using Twise through a French Bank account.
  17. As Tyrex has not got back to us I can only assume :

    1. He has posted the same question on a multifarious number of sites so has lost track of who has replied or not.

    2. He is a) a US citizen so has taken fright

and b) He is from somewhere else non-EU

    3) ET seems to assume that the OP has a large amount to deposit .. I read the opposite .. in that he has only a small amount of funds at his disposal.
  18. Me again ..

If this is the parent company ..

    https://www.verif.com/societe/ARTI-BAT-18-822650669/

then things might not be so bad

They are a SARL .. but you will still need to check them out.

Do demand to have a copy of their décennale guarantee .. you have a legal right to see it if it exists.

It is what covers you if your newly installed windows/doors start to leak.
  19. Brightonian wrote the following post at 12 Aug 2020 13:33:

Not heard of the garantie décennale, will look into, thanks.

Can't find a Siret/Siren no. on the devis, or on their website - not a good sign.

Please don't touch them with a bargepole ..

You won't have any guarantee if you use them if they don't have décennale insurance.

They should be registered with a business number to be able to work legally in France .. if they haven't then again don't touch them.
  20. 1 Ask for a copy of the company's décennale guarantee ..

The list of permissable areas of work that can be done and guaranteed by the company are covered by this assurance.

Don't employ a company without such cover.

2 On the devis look for the Siret/siren number .. you can verify the company using this number online.

No, not at all regular. In fact very rare. But recomande or registered post doesn't seem to function between the two countries.

Ah .. someone years ago, I forget who, advised us to post the rare cheque we need to send to the UK by ordinary mail as registered could attract interest on occasion. So that's what we do .. no loss/missing so far.

Apparently sending out bulk mail drops to Europe via Sweden or Germany costs much less than the equivalent offer by Royal Mail ?

  22. Kong wrote the following post at 05 Aug 2020 21:01:

What would you do? 1. Send the cheque to my UK bank and send the money to France via Transferwise and risque yet another loss in the post.

I was about to agree with Mint .. until I thought about what you had written and the words used ..

'Risk yet another loss in the post.'

Do you really mean that your mail to the UK regularly goes astray ?

    That astonishes me ..

Could you expand on that ?

My questions: Is there someone/somewhere people can go for help over something like this? It seems cruel that they could lose their home when they are willing to make a downpayment and then instalments. We suggested they try the Mairie for a start. Any helpful sugestions appreciated.

The Mairie is an excellent place to start. Hopefully they will give you/them the Tel number and/or email of the 'Conciliateur de Justice' for their area .. these are usually very helpful and very knowledgeable people. I have used one to obtain (successfully) help for an aged friend threatened with being thrown out of her rented flat by her greedy landlady.
