  1. Thought I would post this from the other site - just for your info.

Thank you everyone who came today.

Roger came up from Thury Harcourt way with over a hundred quid's worth of food, brand new blankets - all sorts - all that he & his wife have bought themselves - took 2 kittens (the last of the ones from due to be poisoned) plus another 12 week old that was born with a funny ear and gave us 50 Euros. Black cabbie with a heart the size of a bucket - BIG thank you!

Then Mike & Pat came - Flapjack (the kitten featured in the name a kitten competition), just flung herself at Mike and wouldn't leave his side - so guess where Flapjack is tonight... by a fireside. Mike & Pat will be opening up a Book Depot for us very shortly to help raise funds... so watch for announcements. Pat in tears when she saw the injured Cherbourg cat... sorry you got upset... I too shed a lot of tears at times!!

Lynn & Hamm came looking for 1 kittens but took 2... naturally! How could you only take one and leave the very last one on it's own!! So that is all the Brettville kittens (cats to be poisoned) all rehomed... which is fantastic.

The Royal Canin chap that looks after this area came and was able to do a deal for food for 1st time in months... so after a bill of 636 Euros and all the contributions that arrived today we reckon we have enough food now to last us 6 - possibly 8 weeks.

We have been contacted by Polly in Domfront who is happy to be a collection point her shop, Le Favourite - open Thursday & Fridays... our range of cards will be there too once back from printers.

Diesel the little cat that came in reaking of diesel also went to new home during the week.

So at SEVEN cats rehomed in the last few days - absolutely superb!

So if we can get some more 10 Euro a month sponsors (we've had pledges from 12 people this week) a couple of corporate sponsors and the newly made over pens running as a holiday cattery the refuge will start to look a different place.

We know that Kim has organised a big donation and is enroute to us.

Please keep us in mind... in the meantime a VERY BIG THANK YOU!

  2. I am still looking for monthly sponsors for Le Chat Mon Ami - I need another 7 people to sign up.  10 Euros per month.  Please help if you can.[:)]  I have the details - just send me a message.  Pleeease!

Did anyone explain to Llwyncelyn how to pick up PM's.  I don't have that option on my profile so wouldn't have a clue.  Sorry[:)]

PS:Still no word from Living France - any news?[:D]

  3. Apparently there is going to be a Big Fun Day in Vire (50) on the 4th November.  We are looking at the idea of having a stall.  How many of you would be able to donate some books or other knick-knacks that would go down well with the general public?  I was thinking that we could have an English Cakes section too with donated home-made cakes?  Any budding Delia's out there who can bake us a cake?  Anyone willing to help on the day?

    Any other suggestions......................................?[:D]

I am so pleased that the cat refuge is getting so much help. I have sent a cheque and I will keep sending donations. A artist friend of mine who is famous for her animal portraits has painted a picture in pastel of a cat, it is beautiful, I am going to raffle it amongst my friends (I don't think I could raffle it in public due to charity status!) and all the proceeds will go to the Montebourg Cat Refuge.

Of course we have our very own problem on our doorstep @ our holiday house in France: 1 very hungry mother cat and 6 even more hungry kittens. We are only there every 6 weeks or so and then we feed them up again and leave food with our neighbour who is not very enthusiastic about the cats. Hopefully I have had some success in placing some, but I have not heard back from the people who have inquired about a possible home for them. With winter coming I don't know what will happen to them. I feel very much like leaving my husband to his own devices here in England and move to France for good to look after "Twiglet" and children and adopt lots more cats!!

    [/quote]

Thanks for your support Monika - good luck with your "un-raffle".  Coming to live in France permanently sounds like an excellent idea[:-))]  How would hubby manage the CSA though?  The Cat Support Agency[:P]

Good luck with finding homes for the kitties - not an easy task!  Let us know how you get on with raising donations.  You wouldn't like to do it for your area in general would you?[blink]

Hi thanks for the posting.  Please can you send me a pm and then we can set up a monthly sponsorship.  Its strange I have just done our prelevements and over egged the pudding by a certain % each month and thus have some spare cash.

Finally I sponsor back home three dogs with the Dogs Trust so we should achieve balance in favour of our feline friends.

    [/quote]

Have sent you an E-mail this morning with the details[:D]  If anyone else would like them, just drop me a line...................................[:)]

    [:D]THANK YOU[:D]

  6. Good morning all,[:)]

Well, we have had a super response to the help which was required collecting unwanted cats and kitties from Cherbourg Ferry Terminal.  Even those who were at first a little sceptical are coming forward.  Donations are on the way from a gentleman in Avranches who is also going to offer two kittens a home and people are setting up Direct Debits to become monthly sponsors.  A couple who recently moved over here and made a donation of food are also going to go to the refuge and hopefully offer a home to two cats/kittens.  Please do not sit back though.  We still need your help - a few new faces would be nice too.  You may feel that what you can offer is so little as not to be worth it, but it is!  Perhaps you could collect a stack of English books from friends locally.  These are always a good seller for the charity.  Be a collection point in general for people in your area for food/blankets.  talk about the refuge to friends and neighbours.  They might not be aware of the refuge yet.[:)]

Hopefully there is not always going to be this big push.  The problem is, they need to get funds raised quickly to get the refuge comfortable for the winter.  They also need the help of some "handy" men and women!

It would be nice if we could arrange a work party of volunteers to get  this done.  If you think you will be able to offer a few hours individually or as a family that would be great.  Just let us know[;-)]

  7. Will be in touch - just getting the details together and it can be paid by Direct Debit.  Thank you very much[:D]

Also, there is a big article about Montebourg in The Rendevous this month.  Will try to post some details.

I am still looking for 7 monthly sponsors to reach my target.  At the moment, the overall target for the refuge is 100 sponsors.  We can do it, with your help.[:D]

I am so sorry but I am late to this scene and today is particularly sad for me in that my cat Thomas and who was the subject of a rescue by myself over 15 years ago is not very well and it may well be kidney failure.  Please let me know how I can make a contribution to the cause be it directly through food or whatever on one of my many trips to Cherbourg or through a cheque donation.

As I said sorry for the lateness of the hour.  I live near Percy (50)

    [/quote]

Thank you Llwyncelyn for taking a few minutes to write a few words of support.  I am so sorry to hear about Thomas.  I sincerely hope it is not serious.  One of my Moggies has not been too well either and will be going to the vet later so I know how you feel.  Not quite as old as your Thomas but we "rescued" him as a kitten 11 years ago from a sanctuary like Montebourg.  We went in search of a kitten for my Grandmother after my Grandfather passed away but Spot (as we call him) leaped at the wire and cried as we walked past.  I just had to go and give him cuddle but, he hung on for dear life, et voila! We found ourselves with a kitty too.  He has to be in on every family photo and has accepted his role as head of the family with glee.  Much to the annoyance of my husband![:)]

Your offer of help will be very much appreciated by the cats and kitties.

If you would like to make a donation by cheque as and when, that would be great.

You could become a monthly sponsor of 10 Euros (I need to find 8 others)

    Food/warm blankets/Cat Litter/Building Materials always welcome

Really it's a case of what suits you the best.  Even the smallest amount of help, is help, at the end of the day and will not be turned away or scoffed at.

Please let us know how things go with Thomas.

  9. Thank you Lori for taking the time to respond.[:D]  If you would like to help and are too far away, they would be very grateful for a cheque.  You could even sponsor a cat if you like[I].  They are also looking for monthly sponsors.[;-)]  Take your pick.  Whichever you decide on, the cats /kitties will benefit.

  10. Thank you Chesnelay for your time today[:D].  I don't think I would mind so much about the "time" if I could see people were up against it work wise but I do know what you mean.  I have donated items to several big name charity shops in the UK and received exactly the attitude you describe.  Didn't want banners proclaiming my generosity or anything, but a simple thank you would have been nice.  This refuge are really going to be pushing it to get these animals comfy before the winter sets in in earnest.  If you would prefer that your money went to another charity, there are other ways you can help.  Run a stall at a Vide Grenier, hold a Coffee Morning or a book sale, donate left over building materials or just volunteer for a few hours for some construction work.

Once again, thank you.  All this feedback will also help in the long run.[:D]

  11. There are times, you know, when silence is not at all golden...........and this is one of them[:(]

I will ask what I have asked on the "other side".

I know there are a few who will just give for the pleasure of giving to a worthy cause and because they are in a position to do so. But, what would inspire the rest of you to do the same?

Do you like to see something back for your donation?  There is nothing wrong with that, I might add.  At the end of the day, a donation has been made and that is what matters.

ie by purchasing tickets to an event/meal out etc?

    Purchasing items from Vide Grenier/Marche?

    Raffle tickets/chance to win something?

Your feedback on this will be very helpful.[:)]

  12. St Amour, I feel that we will be visiting again very soon.  The children are very keen to help in some way and we have other bits to deliver.  Thank you for your kind offer, I will let you know when we are going.  If there is anyone you know down your way who may also be willing to donate some food/blankets/towels/kitty litter that would be fantastic.[:D]

Cat food  (wet) Around 7Euros a tray (20cans) Lidl

Large boxes/bags of cat biscuits just as cheap Lidl

Kitty Litter around 1.50 Euros a bag for supermarket own brand

Blankets/towels/old jumpers - Free - just stuff that is no longer required

Any ideas for Fund Raising would be appreciated.[:)]

Would something along the lines of a mediavel style banquet go down well?  As well as the more usual book/plant stalls, Vide Grenier etc.

Christine, I think that would be a really good idea.  Perhaps we could also ask James to speak to the powers that be at Living France/France Magazine if they would be willing to sponsor the refuge for an agreed monthly amount?

Donations from the public in the way of food and cash will help them jog along but at the moment they need to get these holding pens sorted out and that it going to take an immediately large fund.[blink]

  13. Much as I was tempted, we are moving into a village house soon and we have four (rescued) already.[:)]  Today we were able to deliver enough cat food for five days, some cat litter, toys for the kittens, warm blankets and 13 boxes of brand new (boxed) floor tiles.  We have the same quantity of tiles to go again on the next visit and a computer kindly donated by a client of my husband. [:D]

It was a drop in the ocean, gratefully received, but a mere drop in the ocean, none the less.

They need serious offers of help to get their pens comfortable for the winter.  Materials and workmen/women to get stuck in.  They need concrete bases created to sit the pens on to allow for easy cleaning and therefore better hygiene.  Lots of concrete required!  The refuge needs to be somewhere it would be a pleasure to spend a little time - the longer you want to be there the more likely the cats are to find a home.  When you are sitting in front of your cosy fires this Winter, snow falling thick and fast, will you be able to picture comfy cats, because you helped to make their lives a little better?

We all have other things to be doing but a couple of hours out of your life could make a hell of a difference to theirs.

Today we became a "Friend" of Le Chat Mon Ami and have offered to financially support them with a 10 Euro monthly donation - is anybody else out there willing to do the same?  As a family group or perhaps a group of friends?  We are also hoping to help them by putting the cats on the web using our own web site to display the cats and kitties looking for homes, until their web site is up and running.  My husband will support them in the area of IT and I will generally try to fund raise where I can.  Be prepared for me to hassle you too now - sorry!

If you can find it in your heart and/or your pocket to lend a hand please do it now - the weather is possibly on the turn and I don't fancy their chances much.  If they can get going financially it will mean they can start on a programme of education and neuturing that much sooner. There was a young French boy there when we arrived just generally helping out but apparently he donates his pocket money to buy cat food.[:D]

As to the cats, they are beautiful.  And so affectionate!  I was amazed!  They just wanted cuddles. There were at least two who would have been coming home with me if we hadn't already got a house full.  Beautiful colours and characters. If you are after a moggy/kitten, this is the place to go. Angelique was out rounding up more kittens in Cherbourg when we arrived..........................[blink]

PS A bit of corporate sponsorship wouldn't go amiss..............................anyone have any contacts[Www]

  14. Hi Sue,

Thanks so much for your kind offer.  I would prefer not to handle money on behalf of the refuge - could get too complicated if others offered to do that as well.  I am sure that a financial donation sent direct to them, in the form of a cheque,  would be happily received.  I don't think it would cost them to process it, but I will check and get back to you.[:D]

A huge thanks to every one who has now donated.  [:)][:D][:-))][kiss]
