  1. Thanks Patrick.[*] There's a weekly French class at the Richelieu cafe/restaurant in Hesdin where you might make some progress with the language and also meet some new people. Patrick   Thankyou for all your replies i have located the cinema in Montruiel and had a glorious evening out a few weeks ago.[:D] Thanks for the french class information i will pop into Hesdin tomorrow for more information. Bonne année a tous. Sarah.
  2. Have had a reply from the OU Course results office they are going to look into the records for my work and see if there is anything there and get back to me. It is just for my piece of mind i know that if some of my work was lost it wont change the outcome of the results but at least i know i'm not stupid. I am going to register for a resist exam the only thing being i have to wait until october next year before i can actually do the resist. Still it gives me plenty of time to revise.
  3. Hi Sue glad you passed i only just scraped through on the oral side for L120 which i was lucky with as i completely froze on the day and couldn't think of a word to say to start my presentation for about 15-20 seconds. On the L192 side of things after  seeing the breakdown of marks for the ECA's  it came out with a ridiculous score of 0-14% for reading comprehension. As soon as i saw that i knew it wasn't possible and there could only be one logical explantion which my tutor even asked did i send the whole thing in. I know I sent everything to OU but I sent both ECA's for L192 and L120 in the same envelope these pieces of work would have been seperatede after reaching OU for sending onwards to the markers.  So the only thing we can think of is somewhere a piece of my exam has gone missing. I have emailed OU with both mine and my tutors concerns over the results and have asked them to see if it has been recorded weather the piece was incomplete. So it just wait and see time at the momement. Congrats to you though. Sarah. (tillergirl)
  4. Right well as promised here are my results. Are you ready? Sit down your going to be in for a surprise I was. L192 Bon Depart ( remember this is the beginners one) Fail L120 Ouverture (slightly more advance passed Alevel range) Pass. Are you thinking what I'm thinking. HOW? I looked more closely at the website to find out how i would be able to get more information i.e. feedback on these results and was again surprised to see in writing.  No feedback is given,  No remarks allowed and No you cant have your work back to see where it all went wrong. My opinion at this bitter and twisted momement. Thanks a bunch for your support OU. How am I suposed to learn and progress if you wont tell me where i went so terribly wrong?   Now all I can do is wait for a registration pack to arrive for a resist in approximatly 6 weeks time.   We will wait and see what happens.   All the best to everyone else and hope you had a nicer surprise than I did. Tillergirl.
Encore merci a tous. Tillergirl.
  7. Bojour tous. Now my french is in no way brilliant but since arriving here to live full tome in August i have lacked the confidence to use it. As my old language teacher use to say "use it or lose it". So i thought if anyone is interested how about the penpal method only via email. Just to give you some information about me. J'ai 26 ans, je suis mariée, j'ai deux chiens et j'aime Harry Potter, Tolkien et Dan Brown. Merci pour votre temps. Tillergirl.
  8. You may also want to try the website http://www.astra.lu  this will provide you with elavations and stalite details. Best of luck. Tillergirl.
  9. I proberbly am. Certainly felt like i was going insane at times but i am through the worst of that now. Just want to know my results really se if i did ok or not.
  10. Sue i have posted reply to your question on the L192 thread.
  11. I knew that i should be able to do L192 but wasn't sure how i could cope with L120. I did both of them as i was fast approaching to move date to France. Arrived in August. The two together were a challenge but i am glad i did L192 as well as that helped fill in some gaps in my knowledge without these little snippets L120 would have been much more frustrating at times. I will add that while i was still living in England i also had private turion for 2 hours a week. And i can safely say that it was this additional support that got me through. I was intending on immediately enrolling for L211 starting in February but as i am currently without employment i can not afford that course at present although i could not bare the thought of no study for a year, So have registered for Reading Classical Latin A297. As the foundation of many modern languages come through Latin i am hoping this will aid my continuing learning of French. Well we shall see as time goes on.
  12. Hi, I don't know if you are already aware. But the final results are expecting around the 15th of December. Good Luck. I let you know here if i have passed. All the Best Sarah Tiller
  13. Hi, I live in the Pas De Calais and also have a livebox with Wanadoo/France Telecom. When ours decides to cut itself off we generally take the power lead out for 10 seconds reconnect it and then after a minute it generally sorts itself out and reconnects. However general word of warning i would appear that there was a small system update in our area last week which sparked it to dissconnect and the 5 red lights at the top of the box flashed in unsion whilst the France Telecom Symbol flashed alternating to the five top lights so it would go 5 top front sysmbol repeating on and on. Looking in our booklet which came with the box it told us it the 5 top lights come on together you need to reset pressing button underneath. NO wrong answer not during update which is when you get the alternating flashing as described above. When this happens leave box alone DO NOT under any circumstances dissconnect phone line or power supply otherwise you will need to uninstall reinstall and reconfigure the live box to your computor. I know this now as this is what we did we tried the reset a few times last week to no avail not realising what was happening and so decided to unplug the box and leave it to rest for a while and try again. We have sine been informed that if you interupt the livebox during and update it wil automatically lock itself out of the system. This information we obtained through the Wandoo UK helpline as at the time we were having difficulty getting through to the French Helpline. The Uk office mentioned a system rescue disk if we couldn't solve the problem but this would have to come through Wanadoo FR as there are slight differences in the boxes making their one unsuitable for our box. Now the fun started with my sentances prepared so i could make myself understod i rand Wanadoo FR helpline first timethe gentleman seemed to understand some of what i was saying to him and told me to reconnect the box and leave for up to a day at which point it will have sorted itself out. No. That didn't work rang back 2 days later spoke to a different gentlemen using same prepared speech just with the added information of the previous persons advice gentleman couldn't understand me for whatever reason and told me i need to geta French Friend to ring back and maybe then they can hep us. That comment made me want to scream.. Then My Husband 10 mins later rang the helpline and spoke to a nice lady who tried to talk us through the basic reset proceedure press and hold button etc to no avail. So after a week and still without internet we read through the book again with bigger more comprehensive dictionary and came to the conclusion that we needed to try to reconfigure the livebox to the computor. We tried and Yeah we now have internet again. One thing i have learnt from this Wanadoo FR helpline more frustraing than helpful. Hope you dont have any more problems with your livebox as in general when it is working it is an ingenius piece of machinary. All the Best. Sarah Tiller.
  14. For those wishing to do the subject and are located outside of the UK the fee for the next start date of Febuary 2006 is £1580. It is in pounds as this is the only currency the OU accept. Included in this is a compulsory one weeks residential school in Caen around July or August. You can only pay the UK fee if you are a depentdant of someone who is paying Tax in England. For those who cant make it to the UK for tutorials this course is also available as an online version with virtual tutorials via a lyceum programme. You still have to go to the residential school and the price is the same. For Further information see www.open.ac.uk
  15. Hello Everyone. Having Moved to France Small village Lespinoy at the end of August. For those who don't know Lespinoy is located Between Montrieul and Hesdin in the Canche Valley. Now my French is up to order Baguette standard tickets and general get by situations but by no means conversational. I have met one of my neighbours who is content in the knowlegde that we live nest to his family but see's little need in persueing any other type of aquaitance at the momement. The thing i find i am missing with my husband away four days a week is conversation and entertainment. e.g going to the cinema once in a while. But being still relatively new to the area i don't know where best to go. This is where i (damsel in need of sanity replenishment) ask all you wonderful and more knowledgeable folk where to go for entertainment. Also while i am here and posting. As i do not know what French people actually like to converse about, (different cultural prospectives) i am somewhat lacking in confidence to strike up an attempt at the momement to start a conversation in fear of making a faux pas. So if any of you know of where else i can go to meet other English people in order to build my french conversational skills over a coffee i would also be grateful of the information.  I find not knowing anyone very lonely at the moment. So it is I bow to your Kindness and knowledge. Merci Tellement pour votre temp et comprehension. Sarah Tiller.
  16. Nouns Genders, Here are a couple tips a tutor gave me. If it ends in -age it will be masculine the only three exceptions being: image                                                                                              plage                                                                                              page Ends in -tion without exception (apparently) masculine.  Hope this helps.
  17. Hello Everyone. I moved out here a month ago and have at the momement a E111 that covers me until 31st Dec this year. My query is what happens after that can I get a carte Vitale even though at the momement I have no employment here. My husband as we understand it will be okay as he still works for a UK company and pays taxes and NI to England so he is covered with the new EHIC. I seem to fall into a grey area as we see it. Anybody else in or been in same position and can advise me what to do. Thankyou. Sarah Tiller
  18. Hi. I can't actually help you but wanted to hop on your wagon as i also need wood. I have moved out here a month ago. Living in the Canche Valley little village near Beaurainville. Also in need rather quickly of wood as the colder weather is approaching. My nearest Auchan that i know of is in Bologne so not sure that would be much use. Anyone with local knowledge I would be grateful of assistance. Merci Tellement. Sarah Tiller.
  19. Hi, I too had my oral for L192 a few weeks ago. Rather bravely or insanely however you view it did both L192 and L120 at the same time. L120 does have more grammar too it than L192 and both are worth doing through to the finish.   If you Live in France and want to study with the OU with the Language courses there is the option of studying an online version so you can have tutorials online through a lyceum service. Cuts out the need to travel back and forth to the uk. I have found both courses challenging in some areas and on the whole rewarding as I have within the last month now moved to france and can just about manage to hold my head above water language wise. Good Luck with your results I don't think we will have our final result until sometime near december i have heard. All the Best Sarah Tiller.
