Two years ago we found a gite owner who organised a 5 day Christmas and a separate 5 day New Years Eve house party. We would be pleased to learn if any of you do a similar 5 day break for this coming New Year

Hi Monti ! Your just going to have to move to the Auvergne or the Limousin where there are lakes galore full of fish just waiting to test your skill. Within 20 mins of our lake ( 7 hectares ) there are 4 municipal lakes and one other private lake. I understand that the Limousin boast that it is a fishermans paradise , what ever that means ?

Good evening Chris, I noted that you end your messages with the information ( Working for wildlife & birds in France ) You may be interested to learn thta for the past 4 years usually at the begining of October we have an Ospray visiting our lake for 2 to 3 days. This year we had one for the first time in April and then again last week . They are amazing to watch as they hover over our lake and then seem to tuck their wings in and drop like a stone into the water. I hold my breath to see if they are coming up, as it seems to be a big effort to release themselves from the water, especially if one of our fish has not been keeping their eyes skywards and ended up flying for the first ( and last ) time
Kind regards

This year for the first time our nearest major town MONTLUCON l'ALLIER. organised an exhibition for local amateur artists. 90 in number all exhibiting 3 pictures. I only just heard about it in time through a friend. It might be of interest to users of this forum to list any forthcoming exhibitions in their area so that other users in the area are made aware of them

THAT WAS QUICK and a big THANK YOU!!!!! Will we be able to display items on this new forum or alternatively participants offer their private web-sites displaying their wares ie: perhaps a gallery of their paintings etc., ????

p.s. I'm a bit of an amateur artist and I also collect original amateur paintings.

Good morning Pat, Thank you for the details but I was rather hoping that someone in authority here on Living France would have picked up on this and come back with a positive or negative reply. I will look to the other web-site you suggested and thank you once agains

I have viewed several feature web-sites as L.F and F.M. where individual messages sometimes end with a web-site address including some ref; to paintings or art. I was wondering if there may be sufficient interest for a trial run on this web-site ??? apart from the point that I am an amateur artist, I also collect other artists paintings and am always on the look out for a general site that offers this information. Just a thought !!

Thank you all for your comments, since placing the posting, I have received information relating to a public meeting, details as follows:
The Public Revenue Office of the Allier department (03) ( Tresorerie Generale de l'Allier ) is organising an information meeting for the benefit of foreign nationals living in the area.
Various issues will be tackled, including how to fill in one's income tax return, how to pay one's taxes, local taxation... etc ...
The meeting is to take place some date in May which I have yet to establish but it may be an ideal opportunity for my son in law to question the situation re self employed working.
Will keep you posted or even if some of you wish to attend the meeting, please let me know

My son in law wishes to commence working for people general maintenance and decorating of properties. BUT !!! When looking into the possibility through talking with other people, he is being informed that he will have to pay out large sums of money in tax, each month before he even earns any. He wants to keep the work above board but can't see how he is able to pay out sums before earning any income. Is there a way of establishing if there is a more viable approach.

Hi!1 We live in the Auvergne bordering the l'Allier and we use an English speaking accountant but he is in ( 18 )Saint-Amand-Montrond. Having said that; we only had to visit him twice and then everything else was done either by e-mail or post. If you are interested, be glad to give you his full details

Good evening Ron, Thank you for your reply. Situation being that the old gentleman who lived near my daughter was a friend of the person selling and used it for growing various things. Not a big piece of land but my daughter is a bit concerned that if and when she wishes to resell the property, there could be a problem. The person who used it is now in a retired home and some cousins are making use of the same land. It was just that someone said that if my daughter was not receiving any payments or rewards, she had no problem and then another person has stated that this is not the case and is a misconception many of us are under.

Situation: Daughter purchased property where the original owners permitted a neighbour to use part of my now daughters land as a small allotment. My daughter now wishes to make use of the said area of land. Do the neighbours have any legal claims to continue using the land. ?

ANY ONE ORGANISING A NEW YEARS EVE HOUSE PARTY FOR CLIENTS ?????
in Gite Owners Forum
Posted
Good evening Susan, Thank you for your reply. I was thinking on the lines of a " House Party" where the owner is the host and organises all facilities over a set period of days ie 5 days to include all meals, and as the previous one we went to. Indoor soft ball tennis- blind badmington - snooker table - outside target shooting - evening meals with various games - New years Eve : meal, dancing, local wine grower wine tasting - free time to visit local towns and markets , to name some of the functions that were put on.
