  1. Thankyou all for the useful information, If we get to install one I think a grand opening sounds like a good idea . We'll have to have a word with the marie, see what he thinks. Richard
  2. Well that was helpful then! No didn't know that radio 4 was still going. But at least they have 1 listener...
  3. Hi Nick, Thanks for reply, How do I go about that? Richard
  4. Hi, Looking at various options for sewage system, not got anything at the moment and have always liked the idea of a reed bed for the filtration. Does anybody know the official line on reed beds? (Indre) space isn't a problem and have a gentle slope. Have looked at alternatives, Biorock etc. If they are ok, can I do my own or anybody know of an installer? Any help appreciated. Richard
  5. Thanks for the suggestions, have taken both ideas on board, looked at free site but also ordered from amazon, should be with us next week then all we have to do is put it to good use. Thanks again.  Richard
  6. Hi , Can anyone help me get hold of the above book? only seems to be available in France (strange that!!) If anyone has a copy they no longer need I would be more than happy to purchase it. Thanks in advance,  Richard
  7. thanks for the swift response, that was what i was expecting the answer to be. no condition suspensive attached so looks like we carry on and buy our piece of France. would be handy if the pound picked up but hey c'est la vie.
  8. Hi all, Not been on here for a long time, need some advice if possible. We are about a month from finalizing on a property, my work has dried up and the pound, as we all know is sinking fast! We suggested to the agent that we would like to renegotiate the total price, or we may have to forgo our deposit and pull out. They say this is not possible and we should look at taking out a loan! with no work??  Does anyone know if it is possible to change the figures at this late stage? Thanks in anticipation.Richard
  9. Hi, many thanks for the replies. Just had Tedd Benson book delivered looks like good reading, will look into possible termite problems, we are looking for the good and bad points so we can make an informed choice, hence the original question. Richard
  10. Hi, many thanks Euge and Bob, will be in touch for architect details, and the book list is very interesting, some winter reading I think. Many thanks,  Richard
  11. Hi, new to this spent a long time on outside now about to jump in at deep end. about to become owners of 4 acres of pasture some with planning permision, but the grass was knee high when last seen 5months ago and hasnt been cut since, should we try and get it cut now? i assume its too late for it to be used for hay etc. suggestions welcome! many thanks Richard
  12. Hi, First post not sure if this correct site for new build? We are about to become proud owners of land in Indre, we are looking to build a timber frame house, any ideas on cost? not from a package company but from scratch, doing as much as possible ourselves we have built in England before (brick & block). Any suggestions for an architect sympathetic to timber buildings? Many thanks Richard
