Went out yesterday to buy a new car. My wife would have liked a new Mini, so of to the local BMW garage, rude staff, no price info for the Cooper S. They keep us waiting 25 minutes, Then they just grunted that delivery time was 6 months plus. Service with a smile....not. Over a long lunch i talked my better half into looking at a Toyota, so full after a good meal popped in the there garage. They could not have been nicer. The salesman noticed that i had a rental car key ring and said i could rent from them a Yaris for 10 euros a day whilst our main car is in Spain having some mod's done and before our Toyota arrives. Knocked some money off the list price and through in matts, locking nuts and a roof rack. Now my wife gets a Yaris TS and with the extra dosh left over from the cost of a Mini, i get a quad bike.I have had the same treatment from BMW staff in the U.K. Is this part of there european training i wonder? And 6 months waiting time? Only 3 weeks for the Yaris TS. Will not be visiting a BMW dealing every again.

hum baby suckling pig(hog). Not sure about nailing the trotters to the door though, and a house, not that far from us as a giant fibreglass one on the roof. only in france. still better than mauling foxes with dogs. what does fox meat taste like???? -
me thinks hallmark and clinton card companies invent these days just to flog more cards, oh and i'm sure the post office is envolved, what with more people sending e-mails, they need some way to shift all those stamps.

We used an architect to check out the the houses we looked at. Put us off a few basket cases. 50 euros a time(cash) and dinner one night, money well spent.

I posted a few good links for solar engery sites a good few months ago, you may be able to find them in the achive, but i have sinse binned them. A couple of good books on the subject can be had on amazon. The Solar House and a book called something like eco build. I helped my parents do an eco conversion of a barn on there land in cornwall a couple of years ago but when you do your sums you may find a long pay back time regarding instulation costs versus mains power unless you can get a grant or are a long way from mains supply.

Most supermarkets sell cheap modem jacks, French phone plug one end and moden plug the other, if you cannot find one a cheap phone will the the job, just unplug the cable that goes into the phone and plug it into your computer.

If you are going to live remote, you should give thought to a laptop. When/if the power goes you can still work and as long as the phone line is up you can email and surf the the web.The new imac looks good, also the ibook is a good machine and my powerbook as never let me down( now on my 4th)

It's very much pot luck. Also you could ask the sender to put a low value on the customs from in the U.S. for you. Under 22 euros is best. Plus make sure that you are not paying local (U.S. state sales tax).p.s. the smaller the package the more chance that it will pass through without being stopped and duty and iva added.DHL ect also always get tagged so regular post is much better.

Lets hope there grade openings will not be be same as the one in Saudia Arabia where people trampled each other to death to claim 60 quid for being the first few customers in the store. Taking flat pack a little too far!!!!!!!

I brought a new car here in France last year and mentioned i was looking at imports from belgium and they gave me 2000euros off the list price(30,000euro car) not a great saving but it paid for one years insurance.

I found using yahoo.com a good(100mb free) move. For a couple of months on my old pay account i set up an auto reply, i.e. new address is and still do. Most ISP's seem for some reason to keep your email account open long after you have stopped using them. I now filter my yahoo accounts via cashette.com which as pop access and a very good spam filter.
Absolutely true, Val, apparently. I read that Harrods opened its Christmas hall in mid-August. M
Christmas comes but once a year...but now lasts for 4-5 months. Where i live in Aude it can get a little chilly in winter but last year it never dropped below 0c TG. Windows open from may till october for fresh air. Soon as the temp drops below 20c on go the the rads and petrole heater...hate the cold and dressing for it. Only good thing about the cold weather is that i use less fuel in the car running the aircon. -
Yes thanks, Well i make enough to live on. Spread betting is just an natural extension of the 'normal' market place, just speculation on shifts/movements in trading( yes there is a difference) if betting on the markets. Tax laws in France make it better to set-up an offshore account to limit capital gains and income tax. I mainly trade shares, but the advantage with spread betting is that you can bet on negative market movements and not only currency/oil arbitage. Even holding minimum bills can be in the million region so spread betting lets you play the markets with a much smaller investment. BUT your loss is tied to the market movement so bet within a narrow margin to limit loss( and profit). When i came down i done a year at LSE so have a little back ground but still find i have some big losses. Never stake more than 10% of your total CASH capital on any one speculation and 5% would be even better. THERE IS NEVER A SURE THING. Beware of false profits(people), if they knew there stuff they would be making money on the markets and no teaching people to mke money. THOSE WHO CAN, DO. THOSE WHO CAN'T TEACH.

A good sugar replacment is a herb called STEVIA. I grow it here in Aude and use it in tea/coffee and cooking. Very sweet and does not rot teeth. You can buy the seeds online from the U.S.A. It is a native plant of Soth America. Grows very well here.

I have found when i use a free dail-up service it is best to disconnect and reconnect every 30min's or so to keep a good bit rate. Even with my paid for anytime service with tiscali.fr i log on and off every hour or so if i need a good download speed.

Imagine a doctor with the same attitude...cancer, bloody hell man, have you not read the newspaper's, seen T.V. in the last year.Don't bother me.......than why spend time say search when i'm sure less typing would be involved giving an answer?????? -
You need to do a search via a avocat to find out if there are any plans for up grading the line, this may involve access to your land, conpulsery purchace for track expansion ect. SNCF should have a 10 year plan that you can access, though any up grade could take up to 20 years to put in place.

Visit your ISP (tiscali.fr) to see if your village/town is covered. Most have info, just put in your phone number.

Cordless phones( we have 3) seem to work fine in our stone house and outside upto about 10m. Best bet is to get an answer phone instead of FT service. Cheaper in the long run and you can change the message whenever you want and have a much longer message. We have ours in both French and English.
