  1. I picked up an interesting bottle of plonk in Carrefour today. Siof de Coeur. Nothing unusual until to read the back and find out it is a romance wine. On the inside of the front label is a code you enter on their website and get to meet other people who have purchased the same wine in the same area. It is the best mareting idea I seen for a couple of years in France. Just a shame the wine is bland, but then it did cost less then 3Euros.

  3. It is common here in the rural south (Languedoc) for you see mobile horse butchers come around once a week, and there are a few shops still going. Needless to say there are always a few 'cuts' in the supermarkets.

    Shop in Olonzac

  4. I've only found 2 decent food shops. Grand Frais for a wonderful selection of fresh fruit and veg (and the meat is not bad)and Picards for frozen veg, meat ect. Picards even sell such exotic items, like frozen sweetcorn!!!!!

For a nation that loves meat, the meat you find in the supermarket is dire (and often out of date). You have to go to a decent butchers shop and pay the earth. Unless you are near a kosher or halal butcher.

  5. The CRS police go undercover during the summer and become lifeguards on southern French beaches. Just imagine, you are playing volley ball/football and it is in a forbidden area, and the next thing you know is the tear gas grenades exploding at your feet. Swimming in a red zone, you will find out when a rubber bullets hits the back of your head. If you have ever seens these guys in action, you will think twice about dropping litter on the beach!!!!!!!

  6. A good option would be to donate it to a charity for a fixed period (5-10 years). With the stipulation that they maintain it to its current standard. They can then rent it out to earn income and will pay all local taxes etc. We have done this with a house we own in Rome, which is now used by a charity which runs pilgrimages for disabled persons to the Vatican. It is a good way have a tax free investment because you can offset any capital gains againt the market value of the donation. Plus you may even get a tax refund :) with this kind of asset storage when you decide to sell it.

Are Picassa web albums the way that google populates 'google images' ?

PS.The image I posted from Photobucket last night was a copy/paste but the size had been pre adjusted.

Yes and No. Any image, on any website with an 'alt' or 'title' tag will get listed on Google Images, but it can take a while. If you do not want your images listed there but have them on sharing sites (flickr etc.), title and tag them with gibberish i.e. ^*^&^% if the site does not let you leave out titles and tags.

  8. A few pics of the tour passing through our village.

  9. You can post a photo from any location. This image is hosted by me. If you use firefox, put the cursor over an image on a webpage, click the right mouse button and pick 'copy image location' and then pop back here write (IMG)(/IMG) using [] instead of () and paste the image link between  the 2 tags (IMG)http://life-in-france.the-world-in-focus.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/p1010101.jpg(/IMG) and it will appear like the image below.

  10. Don't expect to see many crowd shots, they (China) are not letting many overseas vistors in, in case they hold 'Free Tibet' banners. The games will be a farce, with crowds of 'volunteers' forced at gun point to cheer for the cameras. I would imagine this will have sone effect on those taking part, so will make for a rather dull and controlled games.
