  1. Both propylene and ethylene glycol have been used in anti-freeze solutions. However ethylene is not recommended in systems where it can contaminate drinking water.

Not an engineer, but would expect the propylene may be better for the end use and if  a  sealed system, it is not after the initial installation need much topping  topping up.So why change something which may cause problem. The cost may be minor.

  2. I had the annuity paid when i was 64 and get a monthly payment, which reduces by half when I pop my clogs before my wife!So poor dear ,same as others, gets only half of my pensions.

When I first arrived the tax calculation was in my favour to pay c.s. on it but the time I went to tax office with a translater seemed to indicate I had to pay the C.S.

Mind you I was dealing with an old battleaxe of a tax inspecter, and a lady aat that!
  3. When I changed jobs at 51 years, I was made to put pension into an annuity.

I arrived in France and was told they did not recognise an annuity as a pension and I was asked to fill it in as rente viagers ,but only 50% is taxable due to entry age of annuity or transfer. If you had stared it before 50years then a larger tax allowance is made.refer to tax forms.

However ,despite paying N.I. all my working life ,I still have to pat contribution social!
  4. I drain pump and filter and leave them connected without problem and in Haute vienne winteres have been down to -15 centigrade ,

When I used to circulate during winter I did have a pump breakdown due to icing up!

Also remove skimmer nets and baskets and put in plugs to prevent water draining into pipework from pool ,after lowering water level 2-3 inches.

Beforehand degrease the filter etc. and add winterising algicide.

Dno not start this operation until temperature below 10centigrade ,as algae can form and with no circulation running then you will be storing a green pool!

I only remove the pressure guage from the sand filter and keep in the house.
  5. what about uk people on pensions received in France after poor euro conversion?

If they have any cash in French banks ,then what safety do they have if these banks started to crash ?Their may be a limit of protecting the first say 70,000 euro....but even this could be downgraded or impoosible to pay ....in the worst scenario.

It is very disturbing news for everyone ,whichever country they live in.....it gives you no faith in governments or financial institutes control to be in this position.Should people just draw out any money they have and bury it to pay cash for their food etc.?When that is gone then what?????????????go back to bartering as in past centuries?

  9. hi,

after having 9 diseased chestnut trees cut down I am faced with splitting! The coin and heavy hammer my wife usually uses [:D]is not suitable for this huge quantity and I think an electric/hydraulic machine is necessary.

Looking on purchase in uk as cheaper and larger wattage for same money ,I found several bad reorts about 7ton Powerhouse model and a reasonable report on gardenlines Handy 6 ton splitter ,2200watt,at £198.

    any comments asap thanks.
