One day she gave me a corned beef sandwhich wich tasted good and not as bad as any other types tried for 3 years I ate corned beef sandwhichs. p.s.This is not a cock and bull story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!also great with chips!!!!!!!!!!!now that is another story.-and also the day our paint factory burnt down and the firemen played their hoses on the walls of an adjoining factory!!!!!!!!!!!when i asked why they said they could not save a paint factory but thought the Vat 19 rum factory should be protected at all costs.!!!!!!!!!! They were right as a beer cost50cents while a bottle of decent rum cost only 1 dollar.!!!!!!!!!!!!![B] It was no surprise that the number of illegitimate children 9 months after the carnival was due to the price of rum.!!!!!!!!!! those were the days![kiss][Www] no recession ,no clever bankers messing up your savings and no cold winters.[:)][:P]

  11. Car taken by truck to garage --waiting for a report--will let you know. Imanaged to get it winched up the ramp with a slight scraping of underside of boot
  12. Agreed but not some loss of fluidI think all has been lost!!!!!!!!!!
  13. I have not started car but the rear is just clear of mudguards-i can just squeeze my hand between them. the brake reservoir looks o.k. and on this car the suspension and power steering use the same fluid tank. I drove it home but it was only a km. from home where the possible cause of the fracture occurred so I suppose the tank would not of drainbed in this short distance.I only noticed the next morning the rear was low. thanks. I think I would be happier to get a pick up truck than driving in case I damage anything.assuming it can be safely winched aboard a pick-up.
  14. I was driving home in the dark and on a corner hit an animal or log .heard a slight bang . today I have some damage to a plastic grill on my C5Citroen ESTATE. However the car is low on the suspension at rear and nearly touching the wheels. I thought I could raise it with the switch in the car but nothing happened. I looked under the car and noticed fluid dripping from it. This is I assume the power steering and suspension fluid. and tank looks empty and citroen advise not to open this filler cap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have full comprehensive insurance with same company I used last year without any claims. My French is not very good. Do I get under the policy, a pick-up truck to remove car and claim for a 5 day loan of car which appears to be on offer in the policy as I am covered from home and not greater than 50k.m. from home??? will this affect no claims and can any repair be claimed as it was an accident..The car has been serviced since new for 7 years by Citroen garage. thanks for any advice as I am under a bit of pressure as my wife fell 2 days before xmas and has a compressed fracture of the vertabrae. I am now at 71 years realising the work women DO AS I am learing to cook wash whites and now onto colour, collect firewood ,shop.   The list goes on !!!! .p.s. no ironing done as no time so wrinkly clothes to match face!!!!!!!!!!!!!   thanks for any advice.
  15. Hi , I have a mobile phone which is mainly for emergency calls when away from home. THIS WAS USING O2 IN THE UK.Now when living in Fance a   SFR chip is used. When in UK last year my phone gave problems and I bought a new one with a sim card using Orange provider as pay as u go. What is the cheapest option in future using my phone in France?Should I call uk orange and get top ups or change sim card in new phone and use the SFR sim card? THANKS .
  16. WHATEVER YOU BUY IN FRANCE BE VERY CAREFUL IF ADDING WATER-BETTER ADD TOO LITTLE THAN SOME OF THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS AS THEY LOOSE A LOT OF BODY  AFTER THINNING AND YOU WILL GET DISAPPOINTING RESULTS.
  17. But if you leave a bed of ash then the air does not get through as easily when starting the fire each day! I donot leave the burner on al night'.
  18. It was a tonque in cheek request as I am not anygood in the kitchen plus at the moment not much time to do anything else as I am spending all my time trying to keep hose while my wife is laid low with a compresssed fracture of the vertabrae. what with sawing wood ,washing cooking making beds etc.I NOW REALIZE WHAT A WIFE HAS DONE ALL THESE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! APART FROM THAT I GET ON COMPUTER FOR A QUICK SEARCH OF POBLEM SOLVING, THANKS.
  19. The albri would prevent the wind chill facter and also keep the ambient air temperature higher than outside ,especially during these sunny days which I assume you are having like me.
  20. Thanks everyone, In case the bottle was faulty I changed it for a new one and put it in my car with heater on high coming back from the shop as it waas stored ouside the petrol station where I bought it. I also fitted it to the inlet that had the bottle which had just been finished in case the other inlet which had the spare bottleand did not work  had any blockage or dirt etc.in it. .The temp.of my outside store where bottles are stored and connected through the wall to the kitchen was 5centigrade. My safety swich inside the house just has to be turned back vertical to reset-it does not have a small reset button. This is the second time I have had such a problem in 2 years. at least I got the soup finished without too many more problems. However on my return from the garage a pheasant strutted acroos the road and unfortunately I WAS TOO CLOSE TO IT TO STOP OR SWERVE I thought it had been knocked into the ditch but when I got home it was caught in the plasitic grill-unfortunately dead. p.s.anyone know how to pluck and cook it?? pps I now have a broken plastic grill-I willtape it up as spares costs are horrendous for my car. Thanks for all your help in my emergency.[:)][B]
  21. I did break it up and removed the cover hoping the sun may melt it a bit-last night it refroze so I WILL LEAVE ALONE AND PUT THE COVER BACK ON.   ICE-SKATING WOULD BE POSSIBLE SOON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS.
  22. HI, I have 2 butane bottles in outside store supplying gas to my cooker hob for 7 years now. Today gas ran out and i switched the arrow to the new bottle etc.turned on a safety swich which is in the house and cuts off supply when bottle empty. tried to light gas hob without any sucess--can you get any moisture into butane gas bottles which may affect it lighting.??   I can smell the gas when I swich hob on but electric operated spark does not ignite nor a match.   Why?   any ideas please as wife has just had a compressed fracture of her spine after a fall before xmas and I am srtuggling like most males to cook, clean, wash etc.At 71 years of age I realize I SHOULD HAVE LEARNT THESE SKILLS BEFORE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. When I was in paid employment I spent my whole time in the paint industry-one company of which I was their chief chemist were specialising in road traffic marking and the normal paints after the very thick hot melts (thermoplastics)applied during the war were fast drying chlorinated rubber paints which had glass ballotini mixed into it.The ballotini was a glass sphere which gave retroactive reflexion and these paints could be made in white or yellow depending on thier end use. They were naturally cheaper than the original self cleaning cats eyes which were inserted in a rubber mould which had 2 large glass spheres which when a tyre ran over them ,were depressed into the rubber and hence wiped clean. A simple ingenious idea. Their problem was the cost of installationand sometimes a danger to 2 wheeled transport. Aroundthe late 60's an abs plastic tile about 1/4" thick and 4"square was produced with two rows of glass beads (10 in each row) which could be stuck to the road surface with a 2pack epoxy cement. white for marking lanes, yellow for no parking or verge indicaters and red versions were made to show exit to moterways. Today in the U.K. all types are still used.the road paint however needs doing each year. The french version does not seem as good in reflective properties as the U.K. VERSION --NO DOUBT THEY HAVE LESS BEADS OR NEED A GOOD CHEMIST TO SORT IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I hope I have not bored you too much but this was my professional life -developing paints for all industries -from shipping, offshore, domesticand heavy industries throughout the world.
  24. I have a salt water pool which in the past6 years  I HAVE kept pump running during winter in cold spells. Last year the pump was unuseable probably due to excessive low temperatures and icing -up  and a new one had to be bought. So this year I have drained the pump filter and electrolyser and decided not to run the pumps. I HAVE A FEW PLASTIC 5 LITRE BOTTLES STRUNG ACROSS THE POOL TO HELP RELIEVE ANY ICE PRESURE ON THE VINYL LINING. THE LAST WEEK  HAS SEEN VERY LOW TEMPERATURES IN THE LIMOUSIN .I have a winter cover on but removed it today completely as it gives no temperature protection, My pool has about 1" ice on surface--should I break this up  or leave it????If I break it up WILL  IT  GIVE A LOT OF JAGGED EDGES WHICH MIGHT DO DAMAGE TO THE LINER.????????????????? What is the freezing point of saline water?does anyone have a table of salinity v freezing point. I was thinking If I can raise salinity level this will assist/prevent further freezing. Pool is 4.5x10 metre. thanks.
