1. Mazza,

I agree it's sad for a child to feel that way. I would have been really sad if my 12 year old had said that. He's all grown up now though.

What is it about the French education system that attracts you to France, though, rather than any other country?

  2. Hi Mike.

I too think it's a good price (on the face of it) but I wonder if you've looked on the internet for other property, or land in the area?

I've been approached a couple of times by people with tumbledown houses nearby, asking me do I know any English who will buy.

When I've sussed things out (because at one point I was helping someone look for land/property here) it was a terrible rip off, once I started to add up the cost of importing/improving utilities, and even getting the land staked out for the cadastral plan  can add thousands of Euros if its a big plot.

I would never have bought a house in England without comparing and contrasting prices/what was on offer and wouldn't advise it here either.

P.S; Goats are ten a penny. Do not be swayed by Goats, no matter how cute or strong they are.

No offence to the Goats of the Vendée intended (but I do prefer Irish ones).[:)]

  3.
...It's under offer & has been since before Christmas but no one decided to update the site [:(]
That happens a lot I'm afraid. It's sometimes because a house is for sale with more than one agent, and they don't keep each other informed.

Whatever the reason it's very disappointing.

Now you know and won't get caught out again, giving your heart away and all that.[:)]

Are you planning a trip over?

ETA; That last picture. I can see they might get the car in, but how on earth would they get it out again?

  4.
...One other point to note, I seem to recall some one posting that the area Midi-Pyrenees is one of the worst for not having provision for older kids who do not speak the language and have at times refused entry on the grounds that they could not cope with a non-French speaker...
I recall Jura saying quite emphatically that if the childs French (both written and spoken) is not up to standard, they will not be accepted for post 16 education, but that was dept. 66.

Of course the same thing my apply to Midi P too.

  5.
...a beautiful house in the Limousin [:)] I found it by accident as I was sure that Normandy was the best place for us to live. But I'm in love with the house and grounds & after spending literally all weekend reading up on the Limousin & more importantly Lac de Saint-Pardoux I am sure this is the place we need to be.
Can I ask, have you been to the Limousin, or did you see the house on a website?

    Hello Mr Nix[:D]

  6. I can't understand all this jumping over walls or entering through any other building.

People are making it sound as though the village and the museum are somehow 'joined'.

    They aren't.

I was there on the 28th of December, and walked straight in through the gate. I never even saw the museum.

  7.
Sorry to be a bit negative.
Don't worry about it Macky.

People asking questions about something that has no 'definte' answer should expect to hear a wide range of views, including 'negative' ones.

I've heard precisely the things you say (on this and other forums, but also from people I know in real life) about how different things are, and how very difficult it is for both children and parents to adjust, so you (and your children) aren't alone in your experiences.

For the OP at least you've given them things to look out for.

  8.
... I am not an accomplished typist or computor excpert....and my capitals arear "willy nilly "as I write.I am not shouting.
Hi Jon.

RH was giving you good advice.

In terms of internet ettiquette (netiquette) Caps are deemed to be shouting, and so are best avoided, unless you intend to 'shout'.[:)]

  9.
...I don't know Tresco, could it be that they are the group most predominant in trying it on.
They could be, but as the vast majority of individual cases of people testing their employers/conditions of service never make it into the public domaine, how would we say for sure?

Cases involving individual Muslims seem to be the most 'newsworthy', I'll give you that.[;-)]

  10. ...I don't remember anyone implying that the only chancers are non-white, in fact a couple of posts have mentioned that the Sainsbury decision could, for example, pave the way for Catholics to refuse to serve birth control, many catholics are white.

No you didn't state that.[:)]All the quotes and current incidences you and others cite, which are reported by various sections of the media, are about Muslims though. You don't think there is anything odd about that?

  11.
...Are the various religious "groups" just pushing to see how far they can go.
If every single member of a religious group was trying to wriggle out of the job they had signed up to do, I could understand the persistance with which people are using the term (or implying it).

Given that they aren't, and that the vast majority of employed people in UK are likely to be 'white'/Brits, I would imagine they constitute the largest group of  'chancers'.

This is certainly the case with employers (two of them my siblings) of my acquaintence.
