Simon I would be careful here as something similar has happened to us, though it was not altogether unexpected as we have carried out extensive refurbishment. TF went from 1500 euros to nearly 5000 euros. I asked my accountant if we had any right of appeal his thinking was as follows: In January 2009 there is some sort of change in the tax law and we should appeal the 5000 at the end of next year. If we were to appeal it this year and say they reduced the amount to 3000 euros they would then apply this rate to the prevous 3 or 5 years, not sure which, and tax you retrospectively. If you appeal the amount end of next year they will only be able to tax you for 2008 and 2009 ie they are no longer allowed to apply them retrospectively for a 3 or 5 year period. Sorry I am unable to be more precise but the meeting with the accountant was unscheduled and tho my french has improved my fiscal vocabulary is somewhat limited. Good luck Wilko

Hi Being totally technologically inept i need a bit of help. I think this has been covered before but cannot find it in the "search" thingy. We have a Amstrad  DV3 Skydigibox on which we receive Beeb 1,2,3,4 and similar ITV channels. The question is how do we get to receive Channels 4 & 5. If anyone knows the answer i would be grateful for an explanation that would help a 4 year old. There are no cards of any sort in the Skybox. Thanks in anticipation. Happy days Wilko

Hi My wife suffers 2//3 days of severe stomach pain if she eats baguette, croissants, whole grain etc but has no problems with pasta, couscous muesli etc. However she has been over in the UK and decided to try bread and found that she was just fine. Is there something in french bread that is not in UK bread ?? Has anyone else suffered this problem and managed to overcome it. All alergy tests here have shown nothing. Regds Wilko

Hi Quillan It was a fellow B&B holder. She also talked about some sot of aerial ??? I just thought that someone might know something further. Apparently their is some connection between this and "free wifi" by an Irish company ????? Slightly off topic but I read in La Provence recently that a study by a French and Belgian universities had proof that there is a link between brain tumours and mobile phones/ WIFI. I seem to recollect that a leading British public school had had the Wifi taken out because of changes in pupils behaviour. It's all technology, I haven't had a mobile for 3 years and am seriously thinking of removing the Wifi from the B&B. Lastly we had a US guest in April, a MD late 50's early 60's, and we were chatting about changes and advances in medicine over the past 40 years. he said that one of the things that he had noticed was an increase in the number of brain tumours, around 3 a year when he started to practice with over 30 last year. I asked him if he thought the cause was linked to mobile phones and he replied that there appeared to be no concrete proof but both he and his wife had ceased to use them more than 10 years ago.
