1. Hi we may be buying a mobile home - from Domfront in Normandy, need to have it transported to our place in Ille-et-Vilaine - near Pleine-Fougeres/Dol.  I want to get an idea of how much this will cost before I decide on the mobile.

Anyone know anyone who does this.  I have rung two French companies but neither have got back to me.

    Thanks.

  2. Well folks you just never know do you .... sometimes I post a question about something relatively serious (ie a legal question etc etc) thinking I will get a good response, and here I am posting about ear wax and the responses are coming in thick and fast!

Thanks all for your responses.  In my brothers case, he, as I said, is mentally handicapped (Downs).  He's a gentle soul and he suffers terribly with his ears, always has.  He gets a huge build up of wax and lots of pain - the docs have said his ears are like that of an 80 year old.  Hes also a creature of great habit and does not like change - hes had his ears done with this wire thing for years now as all other methods (including the vaccuum) caused him distress.  I will move heaven and earth to try and get it done here for him - if I cant, well c'est la vie, but you can but try.

Miki Ill deffo check out the clinic in St Malo first and if not, perhaps they may know of someone who does.

    Thanks all again.

  3. Hi folks, this is a bit of a strange one im afraid!  My brother has had his earwax removed in the UK by a wire hook - it is a much gentler way of removing it (he is mentally handicapped and therefore we try to avoid any distress for him).  We have been getting it done for him whenever we are back in UK but wondered if we would be able to get it done here - our GP here in France is looking into it for us but thought it worth a post here to see if anyone has this done in France.

We are in Brittany, Dept 35.

    Many thanks.

  4. Thanks - yes good idea - the fire officer I would imagine would know all about the fibrous cement roof which is causing us worry, hopefully undue worry.  I need to pop up to the Mairies anyway so will flag this with him - we have not started to prepare the outbuillding yet for this venture - we are hoping to gather as much information as poss before we start anything so we dont do something that we need to undo!

Thanks again and have a nice evening.

  5. Hello all,

I have a question to those of you who hold courses from your properties - whatever the subject of the course is irrelevant.  My question is does the building/buildings in which you hold the courses have to comply to any particular regulations (ie. health & safety, building regs etc)?  Where would I be able to find this out.

Do any of you hold courses from, say, old outbuildings?  We are considering holding weekend workshops from home and the building we would use has a fibrous cement corrugated roof (could be asbestos) - would we be able to use this building to accept paying members of the public onto our property for courses or do we need to get this replaced or could we perhaps insulate it with one of those enveloping spray systems (Renotherm or similar?).

If anyone has an experience similar to this issue I would really appreciate some advice.

    Many thanks.

  6. Hi all,

We live in Brittany and want a weeks holiday at the end of October with our 3yr old son who is a bit of a livewire!  We thought Centreparcs would be good but its half term around then and full up practically so are looking at other options in France (not too fussed on flying at the moment).

Can anyone recommend somewhere with an indoor pool (ideally pool complex, water slides etc), beach not essential as if the weather is bad we wont be going to it, kids play area and perhaps kids club/creche, and nice restaurants for mum and dad.

We dont want to spend all day driving so either trainable from Rennes or drivable from us (Dol-de-Bretagne) in about 4 hours max.

    Thanks.

  7. I believe we will need to increase the power supply to our property as we are setting up a workshop with some heavy duty machines in it.

At present we are on Tempo supply ... any idea what we need to do?  Is it just a case of ringing up EDF and telling them we need more power? I doubt it!

    Thanks.

  8. Hi, I usually post in the Brittany forum but we are hoping to get away for a long awaited short break and wonder if anyone can recommend a hotel/resort on the coast perhaps in Poitou-Charentes.  We are looking for:

    - not more than 5 hours drive from St Malo, ideally south of La Rochelle type of area

    - a beach resort/town with good beach, suitable for a toddler

    - a hotel with indoor swimming pool, massage etc treatments (major relaxation needed!) - not too expensive!

    -  good selection of restaurants

    All recommendations gladly received.

    Many thanks.

  9. Hi we live next door to my parents in Brittany.  We have both just signed onto ADSL Livebox - I was able to set mine up no probs but my dads has been a pain.  His livebox is connected fine but i cannot configure the internet access on it.  It tells me it cannot find IP address.  Although on the Livebox configuration page on the PC it shows an IP address in the top left hand side but when I check the "Bluetooth" settings it is showing  a slightly different IP address (WAN?).  I cannot see how to set the IP address.  Short of getting a PC engineer down at a cost, does anyone have any suggestions and indeed can anyone recommend a good PC engineer to come to our house to install the blooming thing properly before my dad cracks up!  We are in Dept 35.

    Thanks. Slacko

  10. Hi, we have a long, long, building at our place which was listed as a "poulailler" on our property deeds.  It was used by the previous owner, a farmer, to raise ducks.  It is made of concrete, with a reservoir underneath it to catch all the muck, and has cement sheeting (like corrugated iron) roof with perspex skylights in it.  ANYWAY, we use a part of it as a workshop/garage and we want to tart up half of it in order to offer pottery courses to the general public.  Would we need to lodge a Permis de Construire because we are changing the use of the building??  Or does change of use of building only really apply if you are changing something into habitable space.  There is already electricity and water (crude) into the building.  We may well add a loo.  There are millions of windows and doorways into it although a lot of them are blocked up.

    Thanks for replies.

  11.
Did you install the Wanadoo CD (which used to set-up Outlook Express automatically) or set everything up manually.Have you got the correct server names for the Wanadoo SMTP and POP3 servers ?Have you ...
Hi, thanks for taking the time to respond:

    1.  Yes, he did install the Wanadoo CD - much to my dismay. I had told him not to as I had heard this can cause problems, then a friend who knew a bit about IT came round and lo and behold installed the CD.

    2.  Yes, using correct servers I believe as they were supplied by Wanadoo - pop.wanadoo.fr and smtp.wanadoo.fr, I think.

    3.  Cant find the test connection on Outlook Express (I have one on my PC but it is Outlook, not Express).
