1. We also have done all of our own works except for installation of our fosse. I have found 'Buying & Restoring old property in France' by David Everett very informative. I bought a book on electrics from my local Leclerc supermarket but if you have a local Weldom shop they have a very useful free booklet on electrics which we found easier to understand, both are in French of course but mostly all diagrams so fairly easy to comprende.
2. Having installed a Deville oil (fioul) heater I find the instructions on lighting and using the heater totally inadequate. Does anyone have such a heater or instal oil heaters and know how they work and can give me a bit of advice please? t.y.i.a.

E106 Expires

Both my husband and myself had our application for E106's refused as we had not worked in the last 3 years. We have in fact been in France for most of the 3 years doing up our property. Now that we are here permanently what should my next step be? Is private health insurance our only option?
5. As Janey I am using Francine flour type 45 and same yeast. the 5th loaf I made as follows:- Water 300ml Butter 25g Flour 500g Salt 1 tsp Milk powder 1 and half tbsp Yeast 1pkt. I omitted sugar as my Hovis recipe says that sugar gives a thicker crust and so far all my loaves have had too hard a crust. I still can't get a lovely soft loaf like a friend who has a Panasonic breadmaker, my bread is more the conistency of dumplings!
6. How right you are! I feel a complete idiot now. I must have been thinking of my driving license.
7. I have just purchased a Quigg bread making machine. Unfortunately all the loaves I have baked so far have been closer to French style bread than English. Has anyone else purchased this machine or know where I can get recipes from for bread machines? tyia
8. I am now living permanently in France but my UK passport has my old address in England. Do I need to change this and as I no longer have an address in England what should I do as I would not think that you can have a French address on a UK passport?
9. I have just purchased a Deville oil heater with view to installing myself. Unfortunately the installation manual does not show any specifications of chimney/flue type or any regs required. Can anyone supply any such info or tell me where to search. thanking you in anticipation.

Has anybody found Jeyes Fluid here in France or its equivalent? I want it mainly for kennel cleaning but it also has many garden uses. t.y.i.a.

Kennel clean

Anybody know if you can get Jeyes Fluid in France or the name of the French equivalent. t.y.i.a.
12. I buy mainly entrecot steaks or faux filet for grilling or bbq or but have only once had a truly tender steak. Anybody have any ideas for tenderizing i.e. marinades etc. I understand it is because in France the meat is not hung as in the UK. I even tried braising beef the other day for 2 hours but the beef was still as tough as old boots!
13. I cannot find an airlock in France for my wine fermentation. Anyone seen them here or know how the French do this process? t.y.i.a.
14. Replying to myself as nobody else has. Have now purchased 2 fires 1 poele Supra with turbo blowers for lounge/dining room and 1 fuel fire Deville for the cuisine. Would still like to hear from anybody with a fuel fire as we're not quite sure on the type of vent/chimney required for this type of fire. t.y.i.a.
15. Need to upgrade our 8kw woodburner to 10kw plus to heat between 400 and 500m the current one is undersized. We are thinking about something with a turbo blower to circulate the air. Does anyone have such a woodburner they could recommend or know of the best places to look in the Charente or Limoges region. Also thinking about buying a fioul (fuel) fire for our cuisine about 7.5kw to heat 150m approx. Any experiences of such heaters would be gladly received.
16.
How your bill is calculated is explained on the Wanadoo website, in "mon facture" I think you will find that the reason you are paying 16€ is because with these type of accounts you pay in advance, ...
Thankyou for your assistance. I did in fact pluck up courage and phone Wanadoo who gave me the answer that you gave above. They also explained that the usage time is counted down which accounted for the time discrepancy, why didn't I think of that before?
17. I signed up with Wanadoo.fr on 12th June using cd with an offer for 25hr for 10e per month which I opted for. I took me ages to successfully make the connection (27th June) but eventually I was live and everything seemed OK. I received a 'facture client' on 8th July which stated total to pay for the month 16,33e? On checking my usage time according to Wanadoo I had used 21h 16m when my records showed that I had used around 8hours? I have questioned these by email but apart from reducing my usage by 1 hour have not received a satisfactory reply. Has anyone else experienced similar problems with Wanadoo and know how to go about getting sorted preferably in English as my French is not up to it yet?

Rabies jab

Since bringing my dog to France he has twice been unusually aggressive towards my husband and myself for no apparent reason. The first occasion was 1 month after arrival in France and the 2nd almost 6 weeks later. Both times he has turned from a lovable cuddly dog into a mad dog growling and snarling at us. I am wondering whether this could be some sort of side effect of the rabies jab and whether anyone else has experienced similar? Also wonder whether anyone can tell me the name of the book advertised in the Telegraph pets column on dog behaviour?
19. The water in my hors sol pool keeps turning green. I have tried anti-algies treatment to no avail. I used a product called 'Mimi Swim' which did the trick for about 10 days before it went green again. At 19 euros a time I cannot afford to use this product all the time. Does anybody know where I might be going wrong or what I should do to stop the problem.
20. Wanted - Springer Spaniel bitch to breed with my Springer Spaniel dog. He is K.C. registered liver and white 5 yrs old. I would like one pup from him. We reside in area 16 close to borders of 87.
21. Thankyou for the reply. I think I have worded my query incorrectly as it should have said 'once I sell up and move and do not have an UK address any longer they say they will not insure me' and not 'become resident'. Still trying to find a solution. Merci.
22. I wish to export my dog when I move to France. I have checked with DEFRA what I need to do. Now I have been warned that an English dog cannot be treated against tics in France as an English dog with French tics would develop septicaemia and die! Has anybody heard of this?
23. I am moving to France permanently taking 2 vehicles and hopefully 1 dog. My current insurer has told me that as soon as I become resident in France they will not insure my vehicle. All I want is 1 months cover to enable me to travel down and sort out a French insurer. Does anybody have any recommendations or info? Have tried Insurance Solutions but they want twice the current amount! Also, if anyone has a checklist for 'the big move' I would be pleased to hear of any useful information. Regards.
24. We are currently looking at removals around this time. We live on the North Hampshire/Surrey border which would be South/West of London just below Guildford and we have a house in the Charente region just West of Limoges. If this might fit your removals plan could you give me a rough idea of costs so that I can compare.
25. Try CITY BOND on 0870 444 6431 this company has bought Rescue France. I am told that they are a reliable company.
