We took our E forms (121s for us, perhaps 106s are different) to the CPAM at our Mairie, we were given temporary attestations as a form of receipt. These were perfectly acceptable at docs and pharmacie.

Our frogs started romancing this week - If you hold you party on the pond bank the frogs may tend to shut up. they are reasonably timid. Whenever I feed our fish the little 'dears' disappear with a 'plop' and then sit there glaring at me with just two eyes above the water.
If you try to get rid of them, more will arrive from somewhere else, Nature abhors a vacuum!

I went to the Docs today and she informed me she was 'on strike'. No difference in service, but would not use CV only a brown form. No other difference to the service. An anti with CPAM I think. And gave the pharmacie more work with three printouts on their old technology dot-matrix printers!

For those not squeamish about using chemicals - Bayer Desherbage Gazons, 400ml liquid used 4ml per 10 M2. Use a cheap pump up spray kept for purpose. My daisies look very sick after 3 days.

Has this item got a standard 16amp plug fitted to it and does it look like a tabletop item? If so - there is your answer, just plug it in anywhere sensible. (These seem to be called 'rechaud' and are available in gas as well).

My nationwie figure gives about half a percent more euros per pound than x-rates average for the year. hmrc gives even less euros. This is a case where a lower rate is better - less is best.

I had a browse thro' my last years Nationwide statements looking for exchange rates on or just after first of month (pension paid on first), The average was 1.46567. I wonder how far that will be from the figure given out by the local Impots/ official rate.

My OH is having second thoughts about the size of this garden, state of my back and the rapid growth of weeds! House is quite large as well. We have decided that the costs of moving will, if needed, pay for quite a lot of gardening help, especially as you get a chunk back using cheque emploi. So staying put for the present.

We are using the livebox for telephony.There is no need to install any Orange software on your computer, I advise against it - especially if you have an older computer. There are two ways to connect your phone to the Livebox - one using a special phone via the USB socket, I bought a Dect phone from FT for this as the livebox is in the sous-sol. There is also a standard mini phone socket available, any modern phone should plug into this - you may have to change the 'keyhole' lead to a double mini plug one, leads available in most supermarkets. The dial tone when connected to the internet has a distinctive warble at the start of each tone burst. If you lose contact with the net, the line reverts to the FT line (you can hear the different dial tone) and hence their charges! My box is a SAGEM, others vary.

Buy a wireless print server (little box with a wi-fi aerial on it and connected to printer), this will enable you to print straight to the printer without the main computer being on. I use a Canon printer with built in wireless - straight from my laptop.

That was how we came to live in Charente...We were camping down on the coast and were bitten alive by mossies and flies. We moved inland and found the north Charente region to our liking and eventually bought our secondaire there. Then moved permanantly nearly 4 years ago to a modern house a few Ks away. Prices reasonable, weather - not bad.

My dvd recorder was set up, out of the box, to use the second scart socket to link to a decoder, french style. I had to work through the menu system (which luckily had an English option) and change the function of the socket to in/out use. OK after that.
