  1. Hi Eurotrash, thanks for your response. I managed to find the very lengthy topic from Oct 2010. 'Pickles' posted the following: 28 10 2010 19.31 Pickles 1) The French registration system only deals with French addresses (the original question). In regards to the registration application form, as a non-resident you are not declaring that you are resident, merely giving an appropriate French address at which the car is based. So it appears to me that it is ok to register it to our holiday home and seeing as how it will be staying there all should be well! I just now have the task of finding a suitable car in France. Regards Lynn
  2. Hi I have read posts about purchasing a car but it seems a minefield. I have a french holiday home that I visit frequently so looking to purchase a car and leave it in France. I think it will be easier to purchase in France with a french registered LHD car and register it to my french address. Can anyone please advise on following questions: If it is registered to me at my french house am I still ok driving with UK licence? What documents do I expect to receive from seller and is there specific things that I should check? I understand about the CT but I take it it should be like our MOT have the car reg on it etc. Once purchased how do I register it and is there anything I need to do if its from a different dept. Regards Lynn
  3. Hi Jonathan When he emailed me I too asked for a copy of his identity and a copy of utility bill, guess what I'm still waiting because he has obviously gone on to other people. Just to let you all know the 'Cheque and Credit Clearing Co have changed their rules on the time limit of clearing a cheque and also better protection for the consumer, see below:   Website:  www.chequeandcredit.co.uk 2-4-6 changes to cheque clearing The 2-4-6 changes set a maximum time limit of two, four and six working days for each of the stages after paying in a cheque to a current or basic bank account. The changes cover cheques, bankers' drafts, bankers' cheques and building society cheques paid in to sterling current and basic bank accounts. For savings accounts the maximum time limit for withdrawal is longer (6 days, rather than 4). Benefits for businesses and consumers From the end of November 2007, changes known as 2-4-6 will come into force. These will increase clarity and certainty when you are paying in cheques to a bank or building society account. For the first time, after paying in a cheque, you can be sure that at the end of six working days, the money is yours. You are protected from any loss if the cheque subsequently bounces, unlessyou are a knowing party to a fraud. The changes also set maximum times when customers start earning interest on money paid in and when it will be available for withdrawal. Hope this is of some use. Don't know if you are safe if they actually stop the cheque as opposed to it bouncing. Regards Lynn
  4. Jo   I was thinking about using my Paypal account to try and get round being scammed but now you are worrying me that this is open to fraud.  What are the other pitfalls, please tell.  I was going to ask you via private message but don't know how to do it der! Lynn
  5. Hi Cassis I think that's a good idea, but it would be easier for it to go on the forum.  An another forum I visit  have a special section on scams so people can post them for everyone to see. Regards Lynn[;-)]
  6. Hi Cat Thanks for that link  - yes it is the same and she, yes it is a she, as her other emails comes through as Dr. Sebastien Lisa has been persistent with me as well as to the lady on the link.  The second Dr. that emailed me was the same telephone number as Dr. Sebastien all but a digit short, so its not just a coincidence but I believe a scam.  I have put there email below for peoples records just in case...... The enquiry details are as follows: Name:  Dr Sebastien Email:  [email protected] Tel:  +447045768428 Rental from : 11/11/2007 Rental to : 30/03/2008 Number of weeks : 0 Number of weeks : 0 The enquiry details are as follows: Name:  dr joel Email:  [email protected] Tel:  +4470457684428 Rental from : 05/03/2008 Rental to : 05/04/2008 Number of weeks : 4 The Enquiry: hello this dr joel interest in apartment mail me for futher info look fwd to read from you sooner   I emailed Dr. so called Sebastien and said I would need to see evidence of a utility bill of where she lived.  Also if they were paying by cheque it had to be for the correct amount or I would send it back due to the fact there were scams going about that we are aware off and we stick together and follow guidelines, I did of course apologise if this sounded rude but you just don't know who you come across these days.  Of course I havn't heard a dicky bird from either of them! To Patf Hi Pat  I have been occasionally visiting the web site but not posted anything for ages.......I did a few posts when I first started but that was on the old style forum and the number of posts have not been brought forward, so I will just have to make up for my quietness![:)]   Thanks everybody for such quick responses and I will pass on the info onto other sites just to warn people - its times like this when its good to be able to call on fellow gite owners and stick together.  Hopefully to eradicate scum that prey on hard working folk! Regards Lynn
  7. Hi folks Anybody had emails like the one I have received which I have pasted in below.  Within 6 days I had received 2 enquiries from the same website from 2 different Dr's and I thought that in itself was too much off a coincidence.  Their emails are not very good and I expect they are using a translation site.  Hello , Am Dr Sebastien from Abbotsford BC, i made an enquairy that me and my family will like to know how you run this rental, and there is no respond regarding my request ,well we are on a vacation for this date below . Date: 5th of January 2008 Time of arrival:10 am No of people:2 adults and one son, well we are referring to that will wanted to rent your apartment that you have for rent on a monthly rental or weekly basic rent for three Months or 2 weeks rental.   Which is the safest way to be paid if I don't live on site?   I thought maybe being paid by internet banking would be risky so I telephoned the bank and they didn't seem to know so I wasn't convinced it was safe, does anybody use this system.   Regards Lynn
