  1. We are having underfloor heating installed at the moment and our builder and plumber have both said that the walls (either block or stud) need to go in before the screed. This is so that the insulation that sits below and to the sides of the final screed doesn't run under the wall. Having thought about it a while this does make sense - you will end up with the 'warm' slab heating up the cavity between the walls. Simon and Liz (87)
  2. Thanks foryour replies.   I do mean horizontally - ie coming up in gaine from a wall surface and then going through six/seven joists to reach the centre.   I know the 50mm rule in the UK isdo do with not being hit with nails from below or above, but I haven't seen anything in the french regs. As the intention is to expose the bottom half of the beams I don't want to drop too far down that's all.   Simon
  3. Hi Quick electrical question - when running cable (either singles or double insulated) at 90 deg to the joists are there any French regs to do with hole size/position when drilling through the joist? In the UK there is the 50mm from the edge rule, but I can't find anything in my French book and given that most of the cable will be in gaine the holes will need to be relatively big (20 - 25mm rather than 12mm which is what I use in the UK) Any ideas? Thanks Simon and Liz (87)
  4. Next winter I wish! Try about 2007 - underfloor heating might be efficient, but cheap it aint..... Hope they work out OK   Simon and Liz
  5. Hi Jennifer We have a barn conversion just south of Montmorillon and are using a plumbing firm called SARL Beauchesne, who are in Montmorillon - 05 49 91 25 26. They were the only firm who didn't laugh at us when we asked for wet underfloor heating. Not the cheapest (total bill about 25k euros for oil fired heating and plumbing), but very high quality. They also have both fax (05 49 84 02 10) and email (www.beauchesne-chauffage.com) which is a major bonus - none of our other suppliers have either! I believe from their letterhead (although don't know from experience) that they also do electrical installation.   Good luck!   Simon and Liz (87)
  6. Thanks for your helpful responses fellas Off to buy some gaine big enough for 16mm!   Thanks a lot   Simon
  7. Hi All Couple of questions for the electricians amongst you: 1 Earth Spike We are currently having a new concrete floor installed into our renovation. As long as the cable to the fusebox is protected can I bury the earths pike within the floor, never to be seen again, or does it need to be available for inspection? I think it might have to be outside, but I'm not sure. 2 Sub mains As our house is very long (30m) and, typically, the EDF install is at the other end to the proposed kitchen I was going to run a set of 10mm cables from the main trip to a 'sub board' within the kitchen, which would feed dishwasher, oven, boiler etc. Is this permissable or not? Does it need to go throught the main fuse board (and be protecetd with a 40A trip or something) or is it OK stright off the trip as long as the cable size is the same as the main board? Hope you can help Cheers Simon and Liz (87)
