  1. That's the anomaly. Wife, disabled, but not yet at pensionable age gets all of her medical costs reimbursed. Me, younger still, fit and healthy gets back 60-70% because, in the eyes of Newcastle, I'm her dependent.

I expect she gets the cost reimbursed for her declared illness only and would have to pay the same as everyone else for general medical care.

It is in the eyes of the French Government that you have health cover because your spouse has an entitlement.

  2. Yes, you can use them for ceilings, in fact they are great for that purpose, you can buy special adjustable hangers that you can fix to your sloping roof timbers and then clip them into the metal rails, you can then fix your plasterboard to the rails, the more supports (Hangers) that you have along the length of the rails the better. I will try and find a website to show how to do it.
  3. There is a French registered (33) Routemaster in Monségur Gironde that used to be operated as a curry restaurant, it was parked up in a field the last time I saw it, at Bergerac airport (24) there is a more modern type London Bus used as an office for airport parking and it's also for hire if you want it.
  4. OH fitting numberplates as I type, I will be impressed if anyone can beat this........!

I don't think there is anything unusual in that timescale, fairly normal I would think, once you have gathered all the paperwork, but if you could type and fit the number plates yourself at the same time, I would consider that impressive.

  5. I think you are getting confused, the CU is the certificate d'urbanisme and it's free, normally the seller would have applied for it, but be aware it is valid only for 1 year and must be renewed before the expiry date (I can't remember if it's 2 or three months before) unless in the mean time you have been granted full planning permission.

If you or the seller don't apply for an extension of the CU in the set time period you have to re-apply for a new CU (certificate d'urbanisme) and it may not always be granted again, rules may have changed etc.

  6. "If you have a small trailer 750kg then you do not need to register the trailer"

We have been through this on the forum recently.

Jusqu'à 500 kg de PTAC, aucun document spécial n'est requis.
Au-dessus de 500 kg de PTAC, la remorque doit avoir sa propre carte grise.

Your French insurance normally covers you to tow up 750 kg without notifying them, if you have a UK licence and want to tow anything heavier than that, let them know and they will alter your insurance accordingly, a UK licence is valid for all the groups stated on that licence.

For a French Licence and weights of vehicles that are permisable, look at the following site.

    http://www.code-route.com/remorque.htm

  7. I would bring it over and get it re-registered, a similar car purchased here would cost a lot more, you can see by the previous post, that it would not be to expensive to do and no road tax to pay, mot every two years, but I would not pay for fully comprehensive insurance, for that value car third party would be ok.

  8. If you cancel your subscription to Sky, then your existing card will continue to work as a "free sat card" you will be able to view the normal UK terrestrial channels plus a few others, save yourself £20 or send it to me at the following address

If you take the card out of the box, then yes you will still be able to watch the BBC channels, try it now, nothing untoward will happen.

  9. I am sure that if you get your photo taken for speeding in a UK reg car and not stopped at the time, then you will not be pursued for the fine .

If you get stopped by the gendarmes for committing a motoring offence in a UK reg car, you will have to pay up, there and then, it's classed as a deposit against any future fine you may receive, assuming you want to go to court to defend the action, otherwise they just keep your dosh.

  10. I had an accident in my RHD French re-registered car 2 years ago, not my fault but still had to accept knock for knock, but that's another story, I was covered for the repairs and that was not cheap, I had to pay half of my excess but no other problems.
  11. If it helps, here is what my Acte de Vente says about vacant possession and having full control of the property on the day of sale.

    PROPRIETE – JOUISSANCE

Les biens vendus sont libres de toute location, occupation et de tout contrat d’affichage.

Le transfert de la propriété a lieu ce jour.

L’entrée en jouissance a lieu également ce jour par la prise de possession réelle.
