  1. I don't know where they get your names and addresses from, but if it is the company I am thinking of they approached me 3 years ago on the same basis. as a matter of interest my broker (who handles business for a lot of expats) was totally unaware of the changes in procedures. He contacetde the local social security office who also said they did not know where these rumours came from! They had no private insurance on offer as of last week. If he does not catch up he will be loosing a lot of renewal business.
  2. Has anyone tried to get a quote for private insurance? What would existing conditions cover?Would  conditions such as Thyroid or blood pressure count? So far I have been thinking of obtaining hospital cover only and paying for all other teatments, doctor, prescriptions, dentist and optician on  a use by use basis
  3. I can't see that travel to the Uk for medical treatment is even worth discussing. We are hardly going to fly across for a regular prescription and as for an operation most of us will be in receipt of an E121 whilst waiting.

I think we need to be discussing who is likely to take up the icase for us.If only we had our own MP?

  4. Two thoughts strike me this morning

    1. A legal challenge is expected-who is going to do this. The British government? I doubt it. If such a chalange is made would we be allowed to stay pending the result?

    2. There seems to be an implication that it will be a condition of residence that you are covered by private health insurance. If you are unable to obtain such insurance, will there be an exodus? Has anyone an idea of what  the range ofpre- exisitng health problems may be, over here.

  5. I would hate to muddy the waters but I have just been reading on Total France forum there is now a definitive statement from the French Govt on http://www.securite-sociale.fr  This seeems to fly in the face of the Connextion release concerning a meeting on 12 September with French authorities. Apparantly the French governement are expecting a legal challenge, particularly as this would make us Brits as EU citizens worst off than  the Americans.
  6. At our giite we nor, ally take a deposit to cover telephone bills, and refund any difference at the end of the stay. A guest who wishes to use the phone and access the internet with his laptop tells us that on a previous stay he has obtained a card which enables hime to use the faciliies without ourselves being billed. I beleive he has an account with a French ISP. Anyone come across this system?
  7. There has been mention before on this thread on the subject of a petition on the government website. There is already a petition to enable expats to have an MP representing them. Apparantly the Italians already have one in UK.It seems obvious that the MP's in our old constituencies have no interest in our wellbeing. For those interested  a reminder of  http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Votes-Europe/
  8. I am sure someone else has been in this situation. Previous to our permanent move to France we submitted a return for our gite to Paris( Centre for Non residents). When I took our return for 2006 into th Hotel des Impots I wsas advised that both returns had to  be submitted to Paris, together with the British refund forms and then they would be sent to my  local Hotel des Impots., after their files had been amended. I have not yet received an avis, Would the foregoing delay matters? Also when does the tx have to be paid?
  9. I have today received  a free copy of The Connection. In an article headlined "Thousands  of expats lose access to french state healthcare cover- new law removes right for early retirees to enter CMU.The article state that letters have been arriving with CMU subscribers in recent weeks informing them they should send back their Carte Vitales. People of state retirement age are not affected. Similar problems arose in Spain earlier this year.

According to exclsive   healthcare the new law followed a European Court of Jusitice decision last year. He advises people to continue to use their CV until told otherwise. They exstimate the cover offered by the state could not be matched, but that his best cover for a 60 year old would cost over €3000 a year with some firms charging 50% more/  a basic cover would cost a min of €500. Private ins also typically involves an excess of €120 on a claim.

The Dept of Health in UK said they were aware of the situation but once people left the UK and were not receivibg cover via an E form the matter of healthcare was in the hands of their host country.

  10. I have 2 varities of potato- Desiree and Charlotte, both planted in April. So far the Desiree's have flowered but not the Charlottes.  Last week I sprayed with Bordeaux. The leaves are yellowing and I think I must have blight. However today I have dug samples of both and the potatoes appear  to be excellent. Any ideas?
