  1. LAST EDITED ON 14-Jun-04 AT 11:01 AM (BST) Hello All, Not sure if this would be better under DIY, however I thought that a better response would come from here. I have read that there are new rules relating to fosse septics and drainage coming in Jan next year. Apparently there are horror stories where people have purchased a house that will require a new fosse and do not have the land for it, thereby making the house uninhabitable. (It was suggested that the vendors would have been aware of this). Can't seem to find much on here re this particular problem, does anyone have any knowledge/info? I understand that inspections are already taking place, and that owners will have to pay to upgrade? Regards, Bob
  2. Lesley, Hi, I know this won't help now but I would have had them, unfortunately we can't come out to live 'till October. I hope someone comes along. Have you tried the Anglo Info forum (Brittany) there always seems to be people looking for goats on there. Best of luck, Bob
  3. If you eat a good varied diet, it should come out clean and in a good firm stool. Wet wipes won't kill you and take up far less room in the bathroom than a bidet! There's one in our bathroom in France, but no toilet in same room, what do we do hobble into the bathroom from the toilet room with trousers around ankles, probably trip up and end up with head in bidet!! The bidet is going, a shower cubicle will take it's place. At least we can wash more than our bum in the shower! Regards to all, Bob
  4. Hi All! Has anyone any experience of purchasing and using these vouchers that are always advertised for about 10 for 5 people ( foot passengers) and also states you can take car at reduced rates, contact ferry company... That's the bit I think maybe the rip off. Any views? Regards, Bob
  5. Hi all! I have been looking at used LHD prices in the UK, and they seem to be very overpriced. So my plan now is to ditch(not literally) our Uk car before moving over. We are taking one way flight, then hire a car for say 3 weeks whilst we then look for French used car. Hopefully this will save all the hassle of importing etc. The cost of hiring a car will just have to be absorbed into our general moving costs! Regards, Bob
  6. Try HIFX, they have a scheme called 'monthly payments abroad', I am signed up with them but have not started to use the scheme yet. I believe that you pay the 1st & last payment(of 12) up front, they add all 12 payments up and agree an exchange rate, then you make the same sterling payment each moth from you bank safe in the knowledge that you payments will remain the same. It then continues into the next year, they will call you towards the end of first year. Hope that helps. Regards Bob
  7. Hello All!, Some of you may have seen my posts on the Central France section following our recce of the Limousin region. Our visit led us to the conclusion that the Limousin is not for us, for our upcoming permanent move to France. We have reverted to our first choice of 56, and are out on a house hunting trip Mon 3rd May - Sat 8th May, 2 adults. So we are asking for recommendations or if anyone knows of B&B's in the area of Pontivy/Rohan/Locmine/BaudJosselin. We have appointments with a number of agents in Locmine, Pontivy, Guemene-Sur-Scorff and Rohan. Flying RyanAir to Dinard(41 return!) Hiring car via Hertz(103) The above just for others info, I found the link from Ryan Air's site to Hertz to offer the cheapest car hire. (I think this was discussed elsewhere) P.S Anyone know of a house for sale in the above areas? Regards, Bob
  8. Hi All! Just an update re our recent visit before easter. We drove hundreds of miles trying to take in the whole of the region (impossible!). So we then had to change plan and decided to limit it to the Correze, which meant phoning a couple of B & B's to cancel for which we felt quite bad about. Anyway, we viewed a few houses even though that was not the plan, getting whisked around for a couple of hours unexpectedly! Almost settled on one, that we saw prior to coming over in the private ads (Appel Immo), but it was not to be. We have both now decided that the Limousin is not for us after all, for permanent move. We found it a little too rural, as lovely as the countryside is. As for house prices, well most agents were shaking their heads when we mentioned our budget, we were struggling to find anything suitable in the habitable/ready to move into range. we have now decided to go back to one of our first choices which is southern Brittany 56. We feel there is more choice for housing and more to see and do, as well as the coast. Also better for our 13yrs old lad. Personal choice, I think Limousin is a lovely region and would probably holiday there, but too isolated for us. That was the purpose of the trip, to find out for ourselves what it was like on the ground, I think that it is very important to have a good look before committing yourself. Thanks to everyone who assisted with information especially Neil & Sue Spoonley. Regards Bob & Ann
  9. Try a program that I have found, it's free, called 'IE Spell', it's a spell checker that can be integrated into Internet Explorer, so you can spell check your post before hitting the send button. www.iespell.com Mind you, it will upset all those who like to correct spelling mistakes, they will have to find something else to pick on! 11. You lot must have time on your hands, or be totally sad! How long is this going on for? Didn't it start out with a perfectly innocent question? Is it that boring in France (assuming many contributors live there, I may be wrong, I was told never to assume). Anyway, I'm taking a risk here as I've only read the first few postings to this thread, but every time I log on, it's increased more than any other, no wonder I've not had much response as I'd hope to my posting on Central France, (thank you to those that did!). Come on, get a life! Now you can spend the next few days slagging me off! Like I care! I know there are still people on here willing to help and contribute. I will not be replying to any posts to this as I'm too busy researching for my impending move. Come on people, LF forum is going downhill with this sort of behaviour. Regards and hoping for better relations,
  12. Hi All! We are off on a recce of the Limousin beginning of April, in readiness for our impending permanent move later this year (along with most of the UK it seems!), once retired from police. Havenot decided exactly where we would like to lay our hats, it all seems really nice. I have a preference for Correze around Brive-La-Gaillarde, but will have a good look around the other Departments on the way down. I would welcome some input from those with knowledge/experience of the region, those lucky to be living there now! Adviceon some good towns/places to visit on our week in the region would be greatly appreciated. Any tips, pointers towards good estate agents etc. Have been looking on the net but to be honest, it's all getting a bit overwhelming. Up 'till now, we've just been browsing, dreaming, and keeping up to speed on this forum. Now reality is kicking in, not that many months to go and am getting worried! Any tips on B & B's as well please. Thanks in anticipation, Bob
