I've heard that in the UK your electrical cables have, in general, a life of 30 years. Does anyone (Punch, are you there?!) know how long French electrics will last? Does 25 years sound like a good time to rip them out whilst I have the chance? Kira

Looking at the radiators which I haven't used I see that they are electric .. Is a radiator a radiator? What I mean is .. if I got the necessary pipework done & pulled out the electrics .. could this in fact be converted to a water/gas boiler system? How expensive are electric radiators in comparison to the other version on a central heating system? Sorry (don't all growl at me, I am female & proud to admit it on this point!! I don't have the first idea about pipes & cables!!!) (& I didn't take offence to Barry's female driving tips!! but I'm honestly not that kind of driver, but it was a giggle) Kira

They are both working, he is employed, she is self-employed. He has bank accounts in both the UK & Japan. So they're now wanting to buy a house in France. Where does he go for a mortgage??? I've suggested a UK bank such as HSBC & get a euro mortgage OR to the French arm of Abbey National/Woolwich OR try the French route & go to a French bank. 1.Has anyone been through this or does anyone have any ideas what he should do/look for in getting a mortgage? 2.Can anyone offer advice about which bank gives a good service? 3.Anyone got some good internet links for banks & comparisons on Euro mortgages? 4.Do you think it'll be easy to get a mortgage considering the 'internationality' of it all???
