  1. It sounds like the solicitor we used. We only paid 400 up front and I have refused to pay her the balance of 500 because she did naff all except delay the proceedings by about 3 months. Funnily enough she hasn't pursued it! Kesi
  2. I have just had our connection bill for 17euros but do not as yet have a French bank account. I plan to return it with a travellers chequo for 20 euro. Any views as to whether this will be acceptable or not? Kesi
  3. Having spent an hour trying to open an account as a non resident I now know what I need for my next attempt except for one minor detail. I have been asked for an attestation from our British Mayor or police saying I'm of good character! Has anyone else come across this and if so how do I go about getting it? Here's hoping! Kesi
  4. We found ourselves in a similar position but not only did we both have children by previous marriages we wanted them to inherit in un equal amounts when both of us are gone. Having found our UK notaire totally incompetant in this area we were about to pull out of the sale when our immobilier put us on to a consultant in France who resolved our problem in a couple of days. It wouldn't suit everyone but basically the house ownership was split 80% for my wife and 20% for me with a usufruit to ensure the remaining partner had full use of the property until his/her death. This may only be possible if you are paying cash for the property, and you need to be sure that there may not be a possibility of a divorce in the future!! Good luck, KESI
  5. Hi everyone, just a word of warning if you live in the UK and buy lenses over the net from America. My wife ordered some two weeks ago at a very competative rate compared to the UK. We had a card from the Royal Mail today saying they could not be delivered until we pay 40 customs duty and 4 handling fee. We buy a lot of goods from America (books, CD's etc) and have never had to pay customs before. Anyone else had any experience of this? KESI
