  1. We also had problems with Loures? I gather they are about as big as large rats and love gnawing things, such as wiring and wood. They sound like mice in hobnails as you said and their wee smells like tomcats gone very wrong! You only have to go up into the loft to know if you have them because of the smell.
  2. ...And has anyone seen the interview on tele (we did) with a local fisherman who was more than happy with the situation - he is being paid 1000 dollars a day because he cannot fish - he says - as compensation, when he said he normally earns 1200 dollars a week!!
  3. Ok - you earn your money - and it's taxed. What you have left you put into savings to earn interest - in the hope you will have a 'little nest egg' - but it's taxed, so you are being taxed on the remaining money you are trying to save. That's the first thing I'd sort out - stop taxing savings. You gotta live on something and that includes taxing pensions!
  4. Thanks Pierre ZFP - I just thought as it was the box and satellite dish it was good value - never having purchased a dish and a box, apart from 'renting' one from S*y.

  5. The more you have the more come to stay - if you like (and the OH loves cooking and cleaning) feeding and clearing up after a load of visitors, have more bedrooms. If you wish to encourage visitors to stay at local b & b's and not worry about feeding an army. Have 1 or 2. Simples.
  6. I wonder if anyone else has seen the report by a.n.other news reporting service for those who have migrated? It's about an EU Commission investigating France and how they are supposedly breaking EU Regulations in forcing those who wish to move to France from other EU countries to fund their own health care for a determined period?

Any thoughts on the powers that be about this?
  7. Calais, Abbeville, Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, (or is it the other way around?), Chartres, Orleans, Vierzon, Limoges. Tolls around 20 euros, slowish traffic on single roads (Dreux, Evreux, Chartres) through smaller villages but usually smooth travel. Last bit to Limoges usually good and clear, - we travel overnight usually. Safe driving.
  8. Yep, Velcorin understood, but I paid for my own pension weekly - as with most railway workers. We were contracted out of the Uk state pension so only qualify for the minimum now, but for my pension I worked overtime and more for 35 years to be abe to bring in what I have. My wife, self-employed did the same for the 20 years she was self-employed, and her pension is a pittance. I was told and brought up to believe the NIS stamp is not really about paying for the NHS - otherwise why would you have to work so many years before you qualify for a pension? (now 30 I believe). Every spare penny I had went to help fund my own pension and I merely stated that I feel for those of an older age group, many who fought in the war to keep the freedom of choice alive, that they should be given all the help they can from a government who owes these generations a lot!
