I am putting in 2 new shower rooms 3 x 2.5m approx. I've had a look through the archive and saw the postings about Hydrofluge and Wedi boards for the shower area to be tiled. Some years ago in England I used exterior grade plywood for the shower cubicle and tiled that. It worked fine. Is it an option in France and if so what is it called?
Would I still use Hydrofluge for the rest of the shower room and ceiling or ordinary plaster board? The walls are to be painted, not tiled.
Thanks in anticipation

I have to run a new soil pipe to join up with our existing soil pipe which connects to main drainage. Does any one know if there are any rules regarding depth of pipe and am I right in thinking the drop should be about 1:100?
Thanks in advance

I know you must rivet the number plates on to a vehicle but does any one know if the same rules apply to trailers?
Thanks in advance

We had an architect draw plans and get permission to remove a water tank and to replace it with a window and convert an area 3m x 10m to a dressing room and 2 shower rooms.
His bill was 2,700 euros.

We've noticed a couple of times in the same supermarket that when we return the chariot our euro is missing. We had left the chariot unattended several times.
Are we unlucky in that the euro falls out?
Or is it being nicked?
Anyone else had the same thing happen?

When you get your plates be careful as I heard recently someone got fined for not having his number plates riveted but fixed by screws as in UK. When I bought a trailer the supplier told be to get the number plates from a motor spares shop and bring them to him for riveting.

In our house there is only one upstairs room with a concrete floor - the bathroom.

We too are having trouble making our minds up which way to go with mutuels or top up insurance and we wondered how often hospital bills exceeded 100%.
Just seen the other similar post on the subject but could not delete this one

If Jonc de Mer is similar we bought ours from Delzongle - cut to size with edging.
Castorama & Mr Bricolage also sell sisal from the roll if thats also an alternative.

We used our French registered car in England for nearly a year with no problems. We did not intend to do this but the house sale took longer than expected. The car was insured with Norwich Union until we moved here to live and then we took out French insurance.

If you are starting with no floor what method is better?
22 mm Hydrofuge OSB with another layer of ply on top or floorboards with ply on top?
or is there a better alternative?
Happy New Year

Thanks very much Dave. The joists will be laid across the shortest length and underneath is not important as it is a storage area underneath. Sorry to appear dim but two thinks I could not understand.
What are chem bolts, wall plates with hanger bkts - I Know what joist hangers are and that was what I intended to use.
Not sure what 'sister the floor joists ( fit two together) at each room division this will give extra support for the stud work above..' means.
Thanks again for your help

Now that I have started trying to get my brain around laying a new floor a few new problems have come up - can you help again please?
The room is actually 2.6 wide one end and 3.1 wide the other by 10.1 metres long. Using the method given earlier and something I found in a DIY book the timbers for the span should be 175 x 50 at 400 centres I think?
Do you use the same size timbers round the walls to fix the joist hangers too?
As the room is 10.1 long and will have be divided into 3 rooms needing 2 walls at about 3.3 metres depending on beams. Where do I joint the timbers along the 10.1 metre length? Where the walls will be, so 3 x 3.3 approx timbers or in the middle of each room so 4 timbers say approx 1.5, 3.5, 3.5, 1.5 ?
Thanks again

Thanks again for all your help.
Have finally decided to bite the bullet and replace all the joists - when I took the old floor off some of the old ones were worse than I thought.
This way I think will prove best in the long run - I hope.

Thanks again for the response.
I do have a height problem. Stating what appears to be the obvious you mean the 100 mm (or150 mm) measurement is the height?
If the old joists are at 50 cm and the new cross members at 50-60 cms I was thinking (or hoping) that something like 50 x 100 with the 50 being the vertical would work and the 100 giving me plenty of room for fixing boards.
Thanks again and sorry to be a pain in the ****

Thank you both very much.
I think the method of laying new wood at right angles to the old joists would suit my situation best. The joists are sound but irregular being old and a bit of mish mash.
I have the laser level (9 euros odd from Castorama - worth the expense!) but wonder if you have any idea what size timber I should use. The joists are about 50 cm metres apart.
Thanks again

We have a first floor area of about 2.8 x 10 metres where we need to lay a new floor because the old floor is not level and in poor condition. We wish to put a shower room in the middle of the area. What is the best way to lay a new wooden floor so its level. The old joists go across the 2.8 metre width and are not level or even.
I remember an old posting about this but cannot find it.
Thanks in anticipation

We laid old terracotta tiles on aa inchish thick dry 4 sand to 1 cement mix. IGrouting (very small gaps) with cement. Any spills wiped off using sawdust.
That was 10 years ago and it worked fine.

During the last week I and two of my friends have had trouble connecting to Free Telecom.
Is it just us or is it a common problem?
Or can't you get connected to tell us?

Thanks for your replies.
The table was originally varnished so I do not want that look again. Have now tried oil but it makes the wood look too orange.
Now going the harder way and using the wax treatment.
Thanks again.

I can confirm what Ron says. I bought a PC from Dell UK and it was delivered here in the Gers - no problems.
