We had similar trouble, though in the UK, when we were selling our house while we were living in France. The selling agents had keys to the front door, but the letting agent had failed to give them a copy of the porch door key, so the tenants would lock that, thus stopping any visits. We had to get VERY firm with the letting agent before visits could commence. Luckily, the tenants moved out just as we got a buyer, and things proceded swiftly after that.Difficult situation for you at such a distance. Good luck with sorting it.

When I was selling houses, the taxe d'habitation was payable in full by the seller as long as they had owned the property since the 1st of January of that year. The taxe fonciere was usually apportioned between seller and buyer relevant to the number of days the property was owned by each. Not sure what you mean by the 400 euro part. If you mean you are being charged 400 euros by a holding company in respect of CGT as your sale is in excess of 150,000 euros, then, unless things have changed, you are liable.

I take it that the contact person on your house sale website is not the person you are having so much difficulty with?

Yes I sent a reply to a forum member and have no idea if it turned up as I didn't get a reply. Can't really try again as that one might not turn up either.

You use the previous tax return information.
But the latest teledeclarant number is not on that, only on your current tax declaration form.
For you that's true but for Norman it will not have changed from last year.[:)]
Definitely changes for us each year.

I had the same predicament Norman. My teledeclarant number was on the tax return I completed at the tax office when we were over in France. They didn't give me a copy so I rang to ask for the number but they wouldn't give it to me over the phone. Are you able to go to the tax office for that information?

We finally received ours yesterday. I had spoken with our tax office first thing in the morning and they said it had been sent mid August, so I requested a duplicate. When the original arrived, it was postmarked the 2nd of September. It's also less than last year which is great.milkeybar, I'd suggest a quick trip to your local tax office and you can then ask about both your avis and the foncière.

Frenchie, my only consolation for you is that I've had cats go missing for more than a month and then turn up as though nothing had happened. I understand the complete helplessness that you all must be feeling, but you have done all you can. Sometimes they just go off because they prefer somewhere else as one of ours has done since returning to the UK. She comes back from time to time so I know she is well, but she just doesn't want to be with the rest of our menagerie.Just make sure they keep calling him and then he may well reappear.Bon courage.

Val_2 I've PMd you.

We always seem to have this problem, but it unnerves me a little as a couple of years ago they decided to investigate my travelling costs. It was all sorted eventually, but caused me a lot of upset and grief. Especially as I used to work for HMRC.
-
Has anyone not yet received theirs? I only ask as this is the first year we've been non resident and although the tax office say it's been done, we've not received ours although my mother has.I tried to look on line but I don't have my teledeclarant number and they won't give it to me over the phone.

A lot of our french friends call by on the spur of the moment. I must admit to hating that but they are always charming (well in the main) that it would be churlish of me to put them off.And that's in nasty Normandie, Idun ;)

1) Yes. Anyone acting on behalf of the seller can do this.2) Not necessary. It can be posted to you and you can go through it with the solicitor on the phone. The notaire does not need to oversee the compromis.3) You can pay the deposit to the solicitor but check that he has some form of cover to protect your money. At acte de vente stage, all monies must be in the notaire's possession.

Having more than one dog doesn't always sort the problem IMO.I had 2 rescued dogs when the third one came along. It coincided with Bill returning to the UK but I ended up having to find a home for the Labrador, partly because he missed Bill's company, but partly because he was intimidated by the new arrival. She is only tiny bu quite dominant, as a lot of small dogs are.Now we only have the third and she pines and howls for me when I'm not around. Bill is a poor substitute as far as she's concerned. When I'm here, she follows me round like a shadow, and is gently snoring as I write, but if I was to stir, she would be up on her feet and ready to follow where ever I go. I know very well that if we got another, she would misbehave as she did before.

As I understand it, if an offer to buy a property is made at the advertised asking price then you have to accept this offer. Please correct me if I have been misinformed on this point. This inevitably leads to high asking prices because sellers don't want to lose out if at all possible.
At the end od the day a property or anything else for that matter is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it.
No, Rabbie, you do not HAVE to sell but, depending on the mandat (contract) you have with the immo, you HAVE to pay their fees should you decide, for whatever reason, not to sell after all.
In addition to paying the immo's fees, in theory the would-be purchaser could pursue you through the french courts to force you to sell. However I have never known this happen. -
Here's the HMRC website link

Looks like you may be liable but do take proper advice.
Sorry the link may need to be cut and pasted.

I suffered from IBS for many years when I was younger, and even now certain foods can trigger a mild attack, and don't even get me started on stress. Apricots are the prime culprit, but spicy food, which I adore, can sometimes be the catalyst.
-
I'm like that with apricots. I love them, fresh or dried, but they really don't like me. Shame.Hope you are feeling better.

You can try ours at Ferrieres if you want - 0233594476. That about 40 minutes from Gorron. Not sure whether they are open but it's worth a call.

Yes, I used net-entreprises while I was AE. Once you've set yourself up, you just add up your gross income and enter it on the relevant page. The system calculates the cotisation due and advises you when it will be taken from your bank account. I wasn't eligible to pay tax online with the cotisations so perhaps someone else can help you with that, but I should think it would calculate that too.

Very humbling. I shall never complain again about walking up two flights to the gym.
