1. Luckily I'm in a completely degrouped zone so I have a good choice. I'm about to move into a new place (I'm currently with Neuf, but just for internet) and so I thought I'd take a look at all the options. Looking at the Neuf website however, I think their all in one offer is only for first time customers, don't know where that leaves me.
2. What's the difference (if any) between the Free and Neuf's Internet/TV/Call packages?
3. I telephoned Gether MacGeorge in Basel, who give tax advice to expats.  They informed me, that no double taxation scheme will apply and as I live in France, I will be exlusively under the French system.
4. Thank you all, your replies have been very informative.  I'll be working in the Basel area for one of the multinationals.  HR have told me I should pay French tax, this seems correct, as I was talking to a French girl today, in the same position as I am, and it is France who gets her taxes.  She was unsure though, that my situation would be the exact same, being a non-French national.  I think professional advice will be required, but if the information I have is correct, what must I do now, to be able to pay tax?
5. Thanks for the replies.  From what I understand, I will in fact pay my taxes to France (the tax rate seems qutie high here).  The French system is completely different to the Irish one, our taxes being deducted on a monthly basis.  I understand here, I will have to pay a tax bill in September, for everything earned form now.  I'm not quite clear on the situation, as I have heard that you pay your tax on the income earned in the previous year, and as I wasn't living in France last year, am I liable for tax?
6. Hi all, I'm an Irishman, living on the French side of the French/Swiss border and about to start a job in Switzerland.  I'm wondering whether I'll pay my taxes directly to France or if I'll pay some combination to both countries?  Has anyone had any practical experience of this?  What do I need to do with regard to tax before I start working? There seem to be some very knowlegable people on this forum so may be somebody can point me in the right direction.
7. If you're in Brittany, Basse-Normandy or Pays de la Loire, try Breizh Mobile (http://www.breizhmobile.com/) They are a virtual operator piggy backing on the Orange network so the coverage is good, but they much better value.  A €10 top up lasts 2 months which is far better than all the rest.  I use Breizh here in Nantes and it works very well.  You can get the sim card in The Phone House.
8. Thats a real pity ...I won't be in the same place for more than 6 months, so a 12 month contract with FT isn't really an option.  I'll have to do some more investigating I think, maybe cable or wireless internet are available? Appreciate all the help John
9. So presuming it has been longer than 3 months, does anyone know what  procedure I should go through next to get a working internet connection?
10.
dated less than 3 months
it might have been more than 3 months since there last was a working connection, don't know where that leaves me
11. Thanks for all the advice! Free definitely seem like the best option.  I've looked on their website (http://adsl.free.fr/subscribe/indexndinactif.html) and it appears to me that you don't need a contract with FT (I'd appreciate if someone could have a look at that page as my French is patchy), I have the phone number so no problem there (but maybe somebody could clear up what is meant by "datant de moins de 3 mois") John
12.
Hi Irlandais We are in a rented house and our contract with FT says just that - we have to stay with them for 1 year. But I think there is a 'you can leave us' clause but you still have to pay them t...
hmmm ...I was afraid of that  looks like I'll have to go with Neuf or Cegetel at €15 then pay FT (€13??) for line rental ...unless anyone has another solution?
13.
Having used Neuf, Tiscali & Wanadoo in the past, I have found Free to be very good, they seem to be a no nonsense company and you do not have the contractual restraints placed on you that you find wit...
Thanks for all the info! Quick question, I'm moving into rented accomodation, the previous tennant didn't have the line connected, a french person I know told me because I am activating the line now I have to connect to France Telecom for one year (and therefore pay their line rental) before I can go with another operator (like free), do you know if this is true?
14. Looking for the cheapest broadband provider.  My line is "degroupage" so I have a good choice.  The best option seems to be a freebox from free.fr where you get 20 meg connection, tv and telephone for €30 pm.  I've looked at Neuf which have 20 meg connection for €15 pm but you either have to pay France Telecom for your line rental or go with Neuf which pushes the price up to €33 pm. Does anyone have any experience with these companies or are there any others you'd recommend? (the net is the priority, not the tv or telephone) How much is line rental with FT? And if I get any of these boxes, does anyone know, are they compatible with a wifi router? Thanks in advance
15. Some really useful advice there, much appreciated!
16. Hello all, I'm going to Nantes for 6 months and I'd like suggestions as to what I could do while I'm there.  I should probably point out that this isn't just some random trip! I'm moving over with my (French) girlfriend while she completes her degree.  I've just finished a degree in Computer Science, however my French skills are comme ci comme ca. From what I know the unemployment rate is far higher here than at home and coupled with my poor French I'd say it would be more productive if I use the time to improve my language skills.  So I'd appreciate any information or advice you have regarding courses available or alternatives.  Otherwise if you need someone with excellent computer skills (also satellite & TV!) for a job in the area I'd be very interested!!
