Probably easiest is to consult the notaire who did the original sale to you. He / she will almost certainly have all the details still on file. French notaires are like that and have elephantine memories.
-
Google them up, and have a poke about. You will at least be able to see from the pictures what they have on offer and typical prices. Taken over all, prices are much the same as UK

Good central Manche private aviation at Lessay http://aeroclub.lessay.free.fr/

sigh (!) try websites for Brico Depot, Leroy Merlin, Bricomarche, Tout Faire, Point etc etc etc.

mmm it's going to be expensive in that area as not only is it prime commuting territory, you've also got Croydon (also known as St Quentin en Yvelines), Versailles, a University etc etc. I would try googling for an immobiliere. Just for starters try http://st-quentin.repimmo.com/

They do it because they can: all tunnel, ferry and air fares are played to optimize income and have no basis in any sort of reality.

Nah, that was just sloppy spelling. I still maintain that the paper licences are still valid. You certainly need the paper one to hire a car, and have done quite recently, without a photo licence.
-
If you need a new or updated UK driving license you need a photo jobby, otherwise the paper one is still valid. It is peculiar but that seems to be the way it goes.

I'm thinking about one at the moment, sometime in the spring when I've got all me ossature up and fixed. Any difference between the drivers that have the collated belt on a rack on the top and the ones that feed from underneath ?

If you hire from EUROPCAR you pick up from the Mercure Hotel just across the road from the terminal building

I cannot help but think that this will not last. Think of those autumn and sping days when the NV suddenly gets cancelled due to inclement weather. People turn up at Poole and get told "sorry, next available boat will be out of Portsmouth, going to Caen". That will really piss people off.

You will probably find it's OK but that MOL will charge you an extra 20 Euros Magret Tex

It's probably worth packing a few bottles of intrepid French spirit as well ...

A couple of weeks ago I had to go over on business and used Norfolk (Maersk) Dover to Dunkirk. It's a useful alternative route, except that they don't take foot passengers. Mind you it's just as well as their terminal at Dunkirk is in the middle of nowhere. The two hour crossing does mean you can sit down and have a proper meal without panic setting in ...

I assume you want to go feet rather than car. Caen might be best as the town and terminal facilities are a bit better for hanging around in the event of delays.

How long before the only card that can be used will be a pre-paid LEARYCARD ?

Its poncy shorthand for Micro STation d'EPurage i.e. any sort of tank system with discs, stirrers, air pumps whatever to stir up the poo and speed up the processing. They certainly work, but the various different SPANCs etc are not yet fully convinced that they do the necessary and that the effluent coming out can straight into the environment. A lot of them are still wanting a filter bed after the system which is arguably not necessary.

Redwell may also do perpetual motion machines. For the low cost solution, there is no total solution, but insulate like crazy and shop around for electrical radiators on promo. Bathroom electrical towel rails are usually on promo somewhere.
