2.94 kW is about 4 HP, but the starting current will be substantially more.

Is this a new property, or a complete rewire of a renovation ? Did you employ an electrician to rewire ? More details would help.

Good ol' Normandie. On the average.

Here's a lead in UK:http://www.proctorgroup.com/Products/ThermalInsulation/Spacetherm.aspx

It's available, but it's stonkingly expensive.

Put your query in the "House Renovations" thread, duck behind the parapet and let the games begin ....

For the fosse, enquire at the Mairie or the Maison du Department for a list of approved contractors. It's easier, and they will be able to liaise with SPANC and get the system signed off.

A core drill is, I believe, a "perceuse carotte" (carrot drill), but I expect it would be v expensive to buy or hire. Easier to make the hole elsewhere or enlarge and remove stones with an ordinary SDS drill and chisel and bad language

I love Systeme D. They always have something in it that nobody in their right mind would build. Like concrete kitchen units ...

The other problem with fosses in Oz is that they are upside down and the poo falls out ...

Wow, toujours l'optisme!

It's not an easy one. The walls of many stone built houses consist of inner and outer leaves of random stone, with an inner core of rubble. This inner core is sometimes little more than hardcore i.e. small rubble, sand, earth and lord knows what else. Consequently there is very little that actually holds the inner and outer leaves together. It sounds as though your inner and outers are separating. There will therefore be voids in the core which will only get worse long term. There may be solutions involving connecting inner and outer with stainless rods and getting as much grout into the middle as you can, but it's all guesswork without peering at it very carefully. Rebuilding is probably the only guaranteed fix.

Are looking for a pre-purchase survey or advice on a specific problem you have with a property you already own?If the latter is it advice on foundations / walls / new structure / floors / whatever?

They're all pretty much rubbish: how about nominating some GOOD airports?

I still think that changing at LHR from T3 to anywhere alse was always a singularly negative experience. There is also an interesting experience at Schipol to be had changing from flights from LHR to long-distance, You have to walk about ten miles.Oh, and of course I can commend Lagos ... no airconditioning and only 10% of the lights working.

Depends how near the coast you are: it's the old Gulf Stream thing again. I agree though on all apple (and cow) based products though.

If you are trying to avoid Welsh weather I would not recommend Lower Normandy. This area can do a very good impression of Welsh weather. You only have to observe the way the grass grows in the Spring ... it can get a little warmer in the summer but only just.

It's always difficult to assess painting. Some people are quite happy with just a good coverage of the required colour. Some expect a beautiful mirror-like finish with nary a blemish in sight: these are the people who reject brand-new cars because the finish is not up to their concept of perfection.

Just go straight in with sous-couche for plasterboard. It's everywhere.
-
Yup, that's the one. Check with Europcar if they still have that arrangement.
-
Europcar do car pickups and drops at the Mercure hotel just across the road. I have used them a few times when travelling to France on business going as foot passenger.

Exactly so. In the offshore industry it is not uncommon to have mooring systems for deep water that cannot be made from steel wire as it just too heavy for the water depths, and they have to use synthetics. But going back to the basic question of GALMI. The other major problem in France is that GALMI tends to mean GALMI for a devis which takes some months, then signing for it and getting in the queue which may take years. For many of us DIY is the ONLY practical option, particularly if you are not there all the time ...
