  1. Pretty sure that Safari doesn't work with 9.2, I've not tried it 'cos I know it's still temperamental! I get the boxes but same no messages when rolling over them .... and the smilies .... I haven't got them I just type them in manually, e.g. : followed by ) comes out as I've only got 3 so far though
  2. I can't get the squares either .... of course I'm not bothered It's a windoze world out there Mac 0S 9.2, Browser IE, might try iCab later if I need a distraction from packing boxes.
  3. The money for our new home will be with our Solicitor in the UK in the next couple of weeks. We hope by then to have our French Bank Account up and running. Soooooooooooo .... * how long does it take to transfer the money from the UK to France and best way to do it? * what format should the payment to the Notaire take? Cheque? * if our French Bank Account isn't set up what can we do? (other than panic!) Thanks
  4. On Washing machines - aren't most washing machines that you buy in the UK now cold fill anyway?
  5. Thanks for the reply Nathalie we think we have 'smoothed things over' and that we will be ok completing a little later now.
  6. Hey dim problem Matt I've had to drop my Welsh learning in favour of my French too. My brain wont cope with both at the same time ... we speaks wenglish normally, then frenglish, and it'll be wenfrench if we don't watch it Hwyl fawr
  7. Thanks Dick, I put the pic on my website like you suggested and it works easily like that Still no smileys though well except for the couple of standard ones I can type in wots a woot???
  8. I've got the Control Panel, no emoticons and can't change my text, Mac OS 9.2. I've also got problems with changing my avatar, keeps telling me it's the wrong type of file, but it's a jpg! Strange thing is it told me this before for my current avatar but then it appeared a few days later!! I'm only trying to change it to a clearer version of that pic. cos it looks cr*p oh well I'll do anything to avoid packing boxes ...
  9. Shwmae Matt and best wishes for your signing on Saturday Yes, Martyn you're correct we wont have the money until we arrive, looks like that will be approx. 2wks later than the proposed signing date, best laid plans and all that ... Not sure now whether to be totally upfront with the Notaire about the money not being with us yet or whether to just blag it and say that's the earliest we can get there (which is also true).
  10. On recommendations I had a quotes from Anglo French (01233 660963), Movers International (01772 651570) and Whites (Plymouth 01752 896577). We've actually decided to use a local firm who have been recommended to us as they were much cheaper and I felt happier that they could come into our home and assess what we had rather than us trying to estimate over the phone. Hope that helps
  11. We have the date for signing on our home in France but we can't make it out there for that date - anyone know how flexible are Notaires/Sellers on the date usually? It would be approx. 3wks later at the most that we could be there with the money to sign.
  12. My husband's company are now offering him a 6mth sabbatical so we will be staying in France on a temporary basis initially (although we will probably end up staying permanently). Will I still be able to put my children into school whilst we are there? Thanks
  13. We are moving in less than 4wks. Is there anything that is 100% essential to do about our UK car before we bring it over or can we sort it all after we arrive? Also, our insurance runs out 2 wks after we arrive - is it 'easy' to get French insurance on a UK Car? Jennifer
  14. This forum has been invaluable to me with the lead up to our move. I've received great help and advice here and I've made contact with people in the area we are moving to French and British). It's reassuring when I get stressed that I know there are people already there who are prepared to give their time to help us and over time I hope that I'll be able to do the same back for other people Jennifer p.s. if anyone can help with my latest E106 panic on the health forum they might just save my sanity ;)
  15. We are moving to France mid September. My husband has paid up NI Contributions for the last 20yrs but I'm self employed and have been claiming exemption for low earnings. He will be resigning when we move but I had planned to carry on working but how does that effect the 106? I could stop working until I am registered self employed in France if it will make our lives easier with the 106? Jennifer
  16. We are trying to set up a French Bank Account ready for completion on our home in France (approx.15/09/04). The forms have arrived with me in the UK this morning and they have spelt our surname wrong throughout Should I return them to be amended? or sign and get the account set up and get it changed once we've moved? This would probably mean I can't pay any cheques in but the money for the house would be by Bank Transfer so that would be okay. Jennifer
  17. Anyone know what the general requirements are for Catteries, e.g. vaccinations etc.? Thanks Jennifer
  18. The lovely people we are buying from in France are happy for us to 'rent' (no money will be exchanged) the house there before we complete so we can complete in the UK and move to France without all the headaches. If we've completed on the French house first great and if not we'll 'rent' it until we do. Jennifer (less panicked now!)
  19. I know what I need to do here in the UK before moving to France but could someone tell me the absolute essentials that I need to do here in the UK with regard to moving to France, i.e. the things I *can't* do once we've moved. Jennifer
  20. Plans have changed! Looks like we wont be taking the holiday until after we've moved which widens our options, odds are on Ibiza at the moment (the quiet side of the Island!). Jennifer
  21. Anyone know how often Cervical Smear Tests are offered in France? Jennifer
  22. We are moving to Dept.22 in September but will have a couple of weeks between selling in the UK and completing in France ... so we want to take a holiday We want to go a bit further south for warmer weather and it has to be on the coast, perhaps Vendee or a bit further south? Anyone able to recommend any really nice areas? Jennifer
  23. We are moving to France with our two cats both aged around 12yrs. We can either take our cats via: 6hr Ferry crossing with a 3/4hr drive when we arrive or 1/2 hr Eurotunnel but with a 7hr drive at the end of the journey Which do cats prefer? Eeeee what a question - I can hear 8 out of 10 cats who expressed a preference saying "neither we are going to hate it and you will feel so guilty for doing this to us" Jennifer
  24. sorry to 'bump' my message up the board but I'm getting desperate for this information, someone must know? We can't plan our moving date unless we have booked our cats into a cattery! In hope Jennifer
  25. We were going to have to have a loan to complete on our house in France before selling our UK house but it now looks like we may not need to do that as we sold our UK house in 12 days How do we do this though? We are due to complete on the house in France on 15th September, if we complete on our house in the UK on the same day how do we sign in two countries at the same time - can we give someone power of attorney in France? And how do we get the money over there on the same day? Jennifer
