1. Good that you are getting somewhere but.... in case it is useful for others too, it seems you are confusing some things.

192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.1 or http://livebox is the address of the livebox (i.e. access to the configuration pages of the livebox) and any of these forms should be recognised. They all point to the same place while...

192.168.1.1:631 or http://192.168.1.1:631 or http://livebox:631 in just the same way is the address of the printer.

The port 631 is being used by the livebox. Something like a street number assigned to the printer.

don't know if that helps or just confuses more!

  2.
How do I find the http address for my printer? I have typed in every option I could think of (starting with http://livebox) and keep getting a "bad address" error message.
it should be:

    http://livebox:631

did you follow all the steps outlined in the Orange help page?

  3. One other possibility for UK catch up TV -  iPlayer etc

If the computer and TV are HDMI capable and the graphics card supports multi monitor use, forget the Humax box and use Expat shield on the computer. Connect an HDMI cable direct from computer to TV (will also probably need a stereo audio cable, connected in the same way). The TV just acts like an extra (bigger) monitor.

Many recent TVs and computers will support this.

  4. Sounds to me like someone has chosen the TV tuner as the input (or "source") instead of the satellite box and because you do not have an aerial connected, you are getting this message that you have no channels stored.

On the remote control, look for the input (source) button - maybe like this http://pctvcables.com/images/remote_source.jpg

and press it. Each press will cycle through the various things you have connected and one of them will be your satellite box. Make sure the satellite box is switched on or you will not see anything.

  5. I am not with Free but according to this Freenaute, it is activated by default...although I have a feeling one must accept the terms and conditions to use this 'service'

  6. I don't know why your settings were different but they are enabled by default for new accounts. That's why so many people have fallen foul of this little scam.

Imagine out of more than 8 million ADSL customers for Orange, how many are ordinary families with one mail account and probably all the kids using the computer too.

Many people have complained to Orange about this for years but they have decided to stick with the default setting. Along with automatic direct debit every month, this will generate quite an income for Orange. For me, it is clearly enabled by default for this reason.

    Disappeared today....

    Channel 5 (105)

    Fourseven (140)

    5 USA (174)

    5* (176)

    And their respective +1 channels.

There is nothing unusual tonight weather wise, and all other channels are completely unaffected.
sounds to me like an issue with your dish alignment prayer. [;-)] You are a little bit further South than both Clair and I in the Lot so I am not surprised to hear of some difference. However, a more accurate dish alignment would probably help.

  8. It is not possible to record iPlayer with the Humax. It only records from the satellite signal. The iPlayer and others are internet applications so the Humax is just streaming content delivered via the internet.

Even on a computer, downloaded programmes from the on demand services - BBC iPlayer, 4oD etc - are designed not to remain watchable after a certain time.

If you really want to save things permanetnly as files, you can buy software which will do this. It is designed to capture or record any video playing like this, for example, here http://wmrecorder.com/home

If you do, you will probably need a new or larger hard drive to store the very large video files.

I'm not sure about the cable, but will need a special arm thingy to fit the two LNB's onto if you want to point to the 2 satellites. The angle between them is too great to have one of those double-lnb's

be aware this bracket is designed for Triax brand dishes. It gets more and more complicated.[:D][;-)]

and also these brackets are made to be used with 40mm LNBs, not smaller diameter LNBs

    Danny

  10. They also do a simple 3 LNB version which works fine.

    http://cgi.ebay.fr/Multi-Feed-3-hotbird-astra-eutelsat-MULTI-TETES-/290377964730?pt=FR_Image_son_Autres&hash=item439be01cba

The middle bit of the bracket clamps around a standard 40mm LNB and the other LNB goes on one side. Not too hard for two different sats but very fiddly to set up for three sats.

Quillan, you will need LNBs for each sat, so two in your case. Each simple decoder needs one cable. Decoders with two tuners - freesat+, sky+ and others need two cables each.

You need to make sure that your LNBs have as many cable outlets - single, quad or octo - as you need.

With this kind of set up of two sats on one dish, only one will have proper reception. The secondary sat will not get as good reception because it is not optimally positioned on the dish. This should be no problem though to get a pretty good signal for French TV

You should set up the main LNB for UK channels to achieve maximun reception first, then add the second LNB for 19.0E.

  11. They have not moved satellite so it must be related to rain/cloud or other meteorological factor.

They are on the same frequency as lots of music channels and kid's channels - you can check if you get these or not http://en.kingofsat.net/tp.php?tp=1238 - but it is on Eutelsat 28A sat (which is at the same location as all the other UK channels group of sats) and your dish is probably not optimally aligned to receive from this satellite. The skew setting (rotation of the LNB in its holder) can make a big difference. Normally, the ideal skew position is different for each sat in this group i.e. if you rotate it one way you will improve the signal from say Astra 2F but worsen the signal on 28A and vice versa if you go the other way. For best general reception of all channels it needs to be set in the middle of the two best settings.

It could also be something else too, of course - dish has moved slightly etc. but the channels have not changed frequency or satellite.

All the channels which have moved and the rest which will move within the next six months are on the satellites owned and operated by SES under the name Astra. They are just updating their fleet. The new replacements are capable of more closely focussing on the UK so that acounts for the changes in reception outside the UK.

The sats at this position owned by Eutelsat - this one has UK channels http://en.kingofsat.net/sat-eurobird1.php - will see no changes. For the present, anyway....

I found this on Ebay, it is the same as Amazon (Fance), cheaper and with free delivery. I don't know about these things so could somebody tell me if it is any good.

I need to get some cable but they seem to have different db ratings so what is better, higher or lower?
It probably makes little difference in performance but it is important to make sure that the the f plugs you use are the correct size to match the cable and that the plugs are properly installed.

PS I have bought from BFSAT in the past and found them to be pretty efficient

  13.
I'm in Haute Savoie where is is bleaching down with snow at the moment.  Channel 5 + 5HD clear as a bell.  Signal strength 50% with quality 90% (both same as before the switch).  Not sure of the dish size as its not my chalet, but think it is 60cm.  Doesn't look like we'll have any issues here.
Ch 5 HD is not on Astra 1N satellite and is not affected. It is on a Sky transponder on 2B sat and is not free to air.
