1.
The simplest course of action is to make sure that you don't leave it open, so log-off (déconnexion) when you are not using it, thereby forcing you, or anyone else, to log-on next time.
Sid, anyone using the Orange connection has access to the account, even if you do not use a Livebox [:-))]You are automatically logged in and you cannot disconnect unless you have more than one account associated with your Orange service.

    Danny

  2. This is the same for every Orange client. It happens because you only have one (i.e. the principal) account. In order to stop this automatic recognition, you simply have to create a secondary email address in your 'espace client'.

    Instructions here http://assistance.orange.fr/ne-pas-etre-automatiquement-identifie-sur-orange-fr-544.php

Once you have done this, you will need to enter your Orange password in order to access your email/espace client. Make sure that you have this to hand before you change this!!!

No one esle will be aable to see you emails or have control over your account.

This is a separate issue from others using your internet service. As the account holder, you are still always responsible for any use of that service in case of any illegal activity.

    Can I ask a stupid question ?

Why is it necessary to have a 2nd dish, surely the 1st one could be punted into the correct direction. Even if the astra 2 (uk freeview) stuff is wanted as well, there are LNB brackets you can buy to point to multi-satellites
Yes, HSD is correct, you can add a second LNB on a bracket to the same dish to receive French TV from Astra 1 sat without too much hassle. It may cost a fair bit if you are not doing it yourself though. [Www]

It still won't receive anything other than the TNT channels and much dross on the same sat.. [:-))]

Without knowing what channel is wanted, we can't offer much help.

  4.
As I said, I contacted several UK TV installation specialists to ask this very question, after all there is TV on other formats as well as satellites. When discussing the complications of installing a second satellite dish the costs were not acceptable as the quotes that I had received were way over 300-400€. Several of these certainly didn’t scoff but suggested that I did a line test to see if it was a viable option. Ping 24Ms, Download Speed 18.62Mbps, Upload speed 0.88Mbps. with the use of a VDSL which would replace the 10Mbps ADSL with an ultra fast VDSL unit of up to 300Mbps which would enable the watching of TV online. It's all out there, it's just a matter of looking. It took me an awful lot of searching to find out that I could Watch TV via the internet. I can buy a VDSL for less than a 100€ so will settle for that.

I'm with Orange and they actually supply these VDSLs, not that I will

use one of theirs I shall buy my own from Amazon, they have quite a lot

for sale. I did omit to say that, the Humax box comes with Canal Plus

ready with a card that is valid for four years. If you do a search then

you will find lots of information on these VDSLs.
It seems you are not clear about certain matters here.

The card supplied with the Humax box only decrypts the channels I linked to before. i.e. the TNT channels

The Humax box you have bought is only useful as a door stop without a functioning satellite dish.

All the main French Internet providers offer a TV service by internet if the line is capable. As I asked, what channels do you want to watch??

VDSL is just a slightly different version of internet service (as opposed to ADSL) for lines closer to the exchange where it can increase the connection speed. THis will not not really make much difference to your ability to receive TV by internet.

VDSL is not an object you buy; it is a technomogy used by the ISP to deliver your internet service via the telephone line.

Unless you know which channels you want to receive we can't tell you anything really useful.

You will have to pay (i.e monthly subscription) to receive certain channels no matter whether it is by internet or satellite.

What is the 100 euros to buy a VDSL or "these VDSLs" about? I feel that something is amiss here. Please give us a link so we know what you mean. I am mystified [8-)][8-)]

  5. Not sure what you mean when you say that you intend to "use the internet as a connection to the box" ??

The TNTSAT service is French digital TV only via a satellite dish pointing to Astra 1 satellite 19.0E. i.e. it does not work any other way.

You can't get the TV via internet with this box.

You do not need to contact anyone to activate the card. The card allows access to the channels on the TNTSAT service that are encrpyted.

These are the main channels available using this receiver

    http://www.tntsat.tv/chaines-tv-services-tnt-sat/chaines-gratuites-tnt.htm

You will need to rethink this one to get to French TV.

If you do not want to have a(nother) dish, is it possible to have a rooftop aerial for French TV? In this case, the Humax box serves no purpose, of course. The aerial cable would go straight in to the TV.

What channel(s) do you want to receive?

Anything else like ABmoteurs ot Motors TV will involve a subscription and may be available via your internet providers TV service.

  6. The decoder is not a 'freeesat' decoder.

    http://www.optex.fr/Fichiers/Notices/m709540.pdf

There is no freesat EPG, no automatic channel sorting and no automatic updates.

If any channel changes frequency, you will have to manually input the

new setting in a new scan to receive it again. See manual pages 14/15.

It will only receive free to air channels on any satellite the dish is pointing to. You definitely have it pointing at the correct (group of) satellite(s)

Assuming the set up is adequate, i.e. the dish is large enough and it is properly aligned for maximum signal reception, you will receive all these channels

    http://en.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&pos=28.2E&standard=All&ordre=freq&filtre=Clear

if you do not receive all these channels your dish set up is not aligned properly and/or the dish is too small.

In the Vendee, I think an 80 or 90cm dish should be OK. Anything smaller is likely to give you a problem on certain channels.

    Especially

    these http://en.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&b=288&sat=159&standard=All&ordre=freq&filtre=Clear

    and also these http://en.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&b=270&sat=149&standard=All&ordre=freq&filtre=Clear

and more so in poorer weather conditions.

  7. No reason that the box should not receive the UK channels the same as any other FTA decoder.

Assuming your reception is OK, don't forget that for BBC3 and BBC4 you will have to do another manual scan in the evening after 8 pm French time.

Also for HD channels, you will need to use an HDMI cable to the TV....assuming you can receive them with this decoder - some of the UK HD channels are slightly different standard.

    Danny

  8. Assuming that the Humax box you refer to is the older Foxsat HDR, it is possible but....

You will need to install the custom firmware by Raydon and set up the Humax as part of your local network. Then put the Humax on Radio 2. Then you need a computer or tablet etc in the kitchen set up on the same network as the Humax box and you will need to browse to the recordings folder over the network and play the 0.ts file. This will be radio 2 playing with a very slight delay. At the same time you can play your footie recording in the living room.

If that is all sounds too complicated, you should probably think about finding another way to listen to radio 2 live via the internet on tablet or laptop etc. in the kitchen.

    Danny

  9.
Personally I would use a Humax box. OK it is a little more expensive but as it has Free Time you can go back in time to watch a missed program without any need to record it....
To use 'Freetime' you do need to be able to access a UK internet connection. So, therefore in France some kind of access to a UK VPN would be necessary.

Freetime is only available on the latest Humax boxes.

  10. In order to establish if your Orange TV service is supposed to be delivered by ADSL or by satellite, you can check on the paperwork or emails to see the exact name and details of the service.

If that does not tell you anything, you can tell us the model number of the TV box. If you can't find the model number on the back or underneath then you should be able to tell which it is from the images here.
Fido,

Just in case it confuses anyone,

Tooway is not Nordnet - they are different companies and use different satellites.

Nordnet - your set up - uses the same satellite group where the UK TV channels are found but the Nordnet set up uses Ka band frequencies. You cannot receive the TV channels with this set up. The TV signals need Ku band (the common LNBs and receiver) equipment to be received.

Your satelite engineer should have noticed this....

    Danny
Are you sure? When I checked it was from the same satellite and a further google seems to say that as well. However it may have moved and google has no 'caught up'.
Well, on checking futher...

Tooway comes from KA sat at 9.0E http://www.eutelsat.com/en/satellites/the-fleet/EUTELSAT-KA-SAT.html

Nordnet do two services. One from eutelsat's Kasat on 9.0E and one from Astra 2F on 28.2 E

    from http://www.nordnet.com/offres/internet-satellite/notre-offre.php

Pour bénéficier du service, il est indispensable de disposer d'un Kit de

connexion compatible avec le satellite Astra 2F 28°2 Est (Gamme JET) OU

avec le satellite Eutelsat KASAT 9° Est (Gamme MAX).

The info on Nordnet's site is extremely opaque and/or confusing about the TV service. They do include a separate Ku Band LNB to receive TV with some offers but also say you need to buy a separate TNTSAT or Fransat decoder. But TNTSAT and Fransat services do not come from either of the satellites that Nordnet mention! [8-)]

TNTSAT is on Astra1 sat at 19.0E

Fransat is on Eutelsat sat at 5.0W

  13. No problem here.

This is often caused by a poor reception on certain frequencies.

Specifically on 11427 H 27500 2/3 as this is the frequency that the freesat signal i.e. channel list and guide are broadcast on.

to check this, put you box on channel 999 and then check the signal quality

    Menu, system, diagnostics

You can do the same for other channels to test your reception

    for example put it on

    channel 105

    channel 126

    channel 108

    channel 202

    channel 203

and compare the results of signal quality.

    Danny

  14. That seems very odd. What does it say about this? Does it specifically say that you are not able to use your present number? Have you already given up your fixed line and using Orange VOIP?

You should still be able to transfer that.

Normally, you ask for the number to be transferred in the sign up process in the bit about 'Portabilité de Numéro'

Your existing 0565 number gets transferred to be your new Free VOIP number.

    from Free here

(My emphasis [8-)])
