1. I am just bringing Zeus back up to the top - I don't want him to be forgotten!! This lovely dog is doing really well now - but he needs to find a forever home as soon as possible where he can settle in and begin a new life with a family.  He is such a lovely young lad, after all he has been through so far, he deserves his chance to find a home of his own very soon!!!  If you could offer Zeus a home with you, please get in touch.  His foster mum is very, very fond of him now, but she wants the best for him for the future and would love to see him settled permanently. If you would like to visit Zeus, we can arrange this.  We can also arrange transport for him if necessary. THANKS!! Jouals
2. This is Rouky - a cocker spaniel, about 12 years old.  His story - another abandon and then a close shave with a final visit to the vet!!  Someone picked him up wandering in a village near Cahors and took him to a local vet.  From there he was collected by the fourrière and brought to the Refuge in Cahors.  No ID and, sad to say, no-one came looking for him.  As he was old, was not eating and was vomiting (who wouldn’t under the circumstances!) - the fourrière decided to have him euthanased.  If it had not been for a Refuge volunteer coming forward immediately to foster him - well, it was the end of the line for poor Rouky.  Just in the nick of time his foster mum stepped forward!! Rouky has since picked up tremendously with some TLC and has some happy days ahead of him in his golden years!  He is a docile and sociable old chap, just happy to potter.  His foster mum says he is quite “dynamique” for his age!  He loves a trot in the woods, his naps on the sofa, or even the bed!  He would love to find a quiet home where he can happily enjoy his “retirement”.  Not an escape artist, just pleased to have a nice, calm routine and take things easy. By the way, Rouky is eating fine now and can be quite a greedy guts (not unusual for Cocker Spaniels!). Rouky is now micro chipped (250269500435970) and vaccinated.  Could anyone offer Rouky a permanent home to enjoy the rest of his twilight years??  He will remain with his foster mum and her partner until he is adopted.  But, as they give a lot of voluntary help to the Refuge, they would like to see him find a permanent home as soon as possible, to free them to help other Refuge dogs.  (They were very tempted to keep him, he is adorable!) Please get in touch, we can arrange transport if need be for Rouky.  Here is Rouky when was brought in by the fourrière… And now in his foster home… Jouals REFUGE CANIN LOTOIS Z.I. 3. Oh Christine - so very sorry to hear your sad news!  How heart-breaking!!! We had a rescued English Setter, our first dog, and (as novices!) were advised to only give her 3 smaller meals a day rather than one big one as this breed is prone to a twisted gut/bloat.  She occasionally had an upset tum even so, with much bubbling and gurgling, but managed to avoid something this horrible.  All our dogs have since been fed 3 smaller meals a day, regardless of breed.  They seem quite happy with that as it gives them lots to look forward to in a day, if nothing else!!  Worth reminding people to be vigilant.  Thanks for that. 4. The Refuge is open every day to visitors between 3 pm and 6 pm!!  Jouals
5. Coca is off to her new home tomorrow - she will have to other dogs as companions in her new home in the country!  We wish her well for her new life and a big thank you to her new owners. Many thanks to all who have and are helping this lovely little dog - especially Merlin, as ever! Jouals
6. Maybe was not adopted yesterday but tomorrow he is off to a good friend of Merlin's to be fostered.  Thank you everyone involved in getting him out of the Refuge.  BUT DON'T FORGET - Maybe still needs a forever home!  He is a lovely little dog full of life and with a super personality - get in touch if you can offer him a home with you!! Jouals
7. This handsome lad is Saphir, the Chow Chow.   Found abandoned in a village where he had been left with his blanket by the side of the road!  He waited and waited for his owners to come back in vain, wandered around a bit in the village, and was then brought into the Refuge by the Fourrière after worried people contacted them.  Needless to say, he has not been reclaimed!   Saphir is about 2 or 3 years old, now micro chipped  (250269500440220)  and vaccinated and ready to find a new home as soon as possible.  Chow Chow’s are a special breed and he would be best homed with people who know about the breed and are experienced dog owners.  He is a lovely, sociable dog, but probably would be best in a home without small children or cats. If you would like more information and you think you can offer Saphir a home or know of someone who could, please get in touch. 8. That's it, last pup adopted, Diva found a new home yesterday at the Open Day! Jouals
9. Diesel went off to his new home with Chris and his family yesterday!!!  That just leaves little Diva who is crying now that she has lost her 3 brothers and sister!!  She is missing them! Is there anyone who could offer this lovely pup a loving home - come along and see her, she is ready to go as soon as possible!!! We are open from 11 am to 6 pm tomorrow - 7 August!! Jouals
10. More great news in that Zeus has fully recovered from his operation to amputate a front leg.  He is fighting fit and full of energy and has quickly adapted to life on 3 legs!  He now goes for good walks and his shoulder has healed well.  His foster mum now feels he is ready to go to a new home as soon as one can be found.  She will keep him with her for the time being - naturally she is very, very fond of him!   Zeus is well socialised and confident, loves to play with other dogs and is fine with cats, horses and, of course, people.  And is used to going in a car.  All in all a super young dog who would love to find a family to have fun with.   Please get in touch if you think you could offer Zeus a home!!!  Here he is (with the red collar) in his foster home with his friends!   Jouals
11. You are so right Chrissie!  He is a super dog for someone, I would take him myself if I had room!  Amongst my dogs I have an "elderly" rescued setter cross - she must be at least 12 now and is still going strong, running far and wide on walks, just as she always has. We have an Open Day at the Refuge on Sunday, so maybe MAYBE will be snapped up then!!  He needs to find a new home as quickly as possible....  If anyone can offer Maybe a new home, come along to see him!! Jouals
12. Christine is right!  It won't be long before you find yourself involved with your local refuge - good luck!  Most refuges need all the help they can get!  One tip, make sure you are affiliated or "adhere" to your chosen refuge for insurance purposes - if you are walking refuge dogs, you need insurance cover. 13. Poor Maybe has just arrived in the Refuge in Cahors after his mistress died in a fire!!  Poor old lad cannot understand what is going on.  Maybe is 13 years old and has been well cared for - he is calm and sociable.  Can anyone offer this lovely poodle a home as quickly as possible - he really should not be in the Refuge at his age!!  I know he is a bit older, but he is in good health and may well have a few good years ahead of him! Here he is: Please get in touch if you can offer Maybe a forever home or even if you can foster him until we can find him a permanent home...  THANKYOU! 14. I can't believe this little girl is still waiting at the Refuge.  She is being overlooked and is very, very unhappy there!!  If you think you can offer this lovely dog a home, please do get in touch or come and see us on Sunday at our Open Day (see other post).  She really is adorable, but so stressed at the Refuge, it is obviously difficult for people to pick her out and see what a lovely dog she is!!!!  Can anyone give her a chance of a happy new life??? Jouals
15. I should add that there is also one female Beauceron pup left too - little Diva!!! Jouals
16. Chris - I have PM'd you. There is just one male pup left now - one of the Beauceron 5 - Diesel.  Jouals
17. If you can prepare your story in French - try posting on (under SOS sections for a famille d'accueil) (cut and paste the link) http://www.rescue-forum.com/phpBB3/index.php This is a very active site...  if at all possible, a photo always helps... (if you can get one onto Photobucket and then post the link to this on your post?) Good luck! Jouals
18. Here are just 3 dogs waiting to find a loving new home.... 19. We are holding an Open Day this coming Sunday, 7 August, between 11 am and 6 pm - do come along and visit us if you can!!!  If you are looking to adopt a dog - we have plenty to choose from.....!!!  Or even if you can just come along to sign our petition against the closure of the Refuge at the end of this year!!!  The Refuge is in great financial difficulty and needs a long term solution to keep it open very very soon or we will have to close our doors at the end of this year - unthinkable!!! Spread the word if you can!!!!!  Thank you.... REFUGE CANIN LOTOIS Z.I. 20. Another Beauceron puppy was adopted yesterday and has gone off with his new family to live between France and Switzerland.  A huge thanks to his new owners for coming so far to adopt him - they are going to call him Red (their other rescue poodle is called Blue)!  Good luck to them!!  Red is a lucky lad. This still leaves Diva (female), Diesel and Milord (males), Beauceron pups!!!  We also have Tapas, a brindle cross puppy (female) looking for a home..... Please get in touch if you are interested, we can organise transport if need be.  Jouals
21. Coca, the little terrier cross, (see earlier post about her) is still looking for a new home - she is adorable, spayed and would be suitable.  She is very stressed in the Refuge and would make a wonderful companion.  I know you are a distance from Cahors, but we can arrange transport if you are interested in adopting her!!!?? Coca is a bit timid at first when she does not know you, but would make a wonderful family pet.  She is very affectionate!  She is vaccinated and micro chipped. Let me know if you need any further information.  Jouals
22. Hi Crish Yes, we do - some have gone (the 2 retriever X pups), one female Beauceron has gone to date, but there are 3 male Beauceron pups still there + 1 female..... We are also trying to re-home a 6 month old Beauceron male who has just had to have a front leg amputated - he is being fostered by a volunteer and is a lovely young dog who will have no problem on 3 legs.  As he is in a foster home, we know he is fine with cats and other dogs too. Let me know if you need any more info.... Jouals REFUGE CANIN LOTOIS Z.I. ENGLANDIERES ROUTE DE MERCUES (D811) 46000 CAHORS Open ever day between 3pm and 6 pm including weekends TEL 05 65 22 66 32

Cat with worms !

Unfortunately "eco" products to get rid of fleas, worms etc will not do the trick.  It is a shame that the treatments have to be so toxic - but in the end, the pros outweigh the cons. Have you tried looking on line to buy Drontal, Scalibor, Advantix etc - it can often be cheaper - especially if a few of your friends order at the same time?  There a few good sites - French and UK - who are cheaper than the pharmacies and vets here.
