  1. Hi, I'm sure there was a post about this as I made some notes from it but now can't find it to check and the other posts I have been reading are making me wonder... Basically - I'm looking for work. I'm sending letters out and have joined appropriate agencies for my métier but (now I've a social security number) I guess it's time to go to the 'unemployment office' in France. My understanding is I go to ASSEDIC (with all possible bits of paperwork I can think of) to register as looking for work. They then provide me with a reference number. I can then make an appointment with ANPE Is my understanding correct? Or are there any steps or other agencies I've missed out? Thanks for any corrections/ clarifications. Karen
  2. Clara, Bad news I'm afraid they come back and back and back. I don't know the lifespan of them so don't know if it's the same one's but they certainly like our chimney: we've had them in the same spot for 5 years regardless of the nest being destroyed each year. Now we know to expect them the first sign of any in summer we zap them with the stuff from the brico's. They soon get the message but if anyone knows how to put them off a spot permanently I'd appreciate it! As to whether to get rid of the nest now I'm afraid I don't know, but there are still a few hornets buzzing about and logically some survive to create the next generation to bug us! Is there currently any activity? It might be worth killing the nest if you see some. Good luck! Karen
  3. Hi, I recommend you get into touch with Steven at excel web-design. Have a look on the website for examples www.excel-webdesign.co.uk His email is [email protected] He's currently doing one for me and he has a good mix of the computer knowledge with the design/ layout/cropping etc. Karen
  4. Can I revive this topic, or at least ask Darren how the move has gone if you've now done it? I'm also looking at doing the same thing in summer. Taking a van load of things to France, it will in fact be our permanent move and my dad will drive the van back to the UK. Perhaps that makes things different? I also have been researching this in books / and hours and hours of circling around the same limited info on the internet but not getting a final, definite list. So perhaps you can sent my mind a rest or point me in a better direction so I can find the info. What I have so far is we will need... 1. Certificate of transfer of residence - available from our LA (apparently!) but not from mine according to my searches on their website which don't mention it! 2. Inventory - in french and english. Should this be on an official form or just a list we produce and how detailed are we looking at? 3. Certificate de non-cession, which states items are for our personal use only - but where is this form from? Re plants I've been in touch with defra and happy I know what I'm doing there! And the cats have passports, though I'm keeping an eye on defra with the updated pet passport coming out July 2nd in case that affects anything. Oh, and we'll have receipts for electrical/ expensive items (not many of those though!). Any help with the above would be gratefully received, and if I've missed anything I should be aware of please let me know - better now then on the day! Thanks alot Karen
  5. Thanks for your replies. You're right Liz, I am in Mayenne and am able to pick up LW (which is a pain when its the cricket season!). I want an equiv to help my language skills but also to know more about this country, the news and culture. Guess I'll stick to France Culture. Maybe I'm not up early enough for the equiv of the Today programme! There is lots of chats but in interviews the interviewee actually gets time to respond fully without interruption -amazing! Thanks Karen
  6. Hi, Can anyone recommend a french version of Radio 4? I currently listen to (well try) France Culture but it doesn't seem to have the mix of programmes you'd find on R4. Thanks alot Karen
