Will, the following is from www.Portsmouth.Co.UK in their business section, the date is this month
"New operator may re-open Le Havre ferry
A FERRY company is looking at introducing a new passenger service between Portsmouth and Le Havre.Essex-based KMW Seaways has confirmed that it was looking at the route alongside a freight-only service between Portsmouth and Cherbourg.
Uncertainty still surrounds which ferries might be involved or whether the money is in place but port bosses are cautiously optimistic for the future.
The Le Havre run could be up and running by the late summer with two sailings a day using two chartered vessels.
The firm had been looking at using the Regina Baltica, a ferry which holds 1,500 passengers, for the Le Havre route in a deal which would have cost £12m, but is now believed to be looking elsewhere.
KMW Seaways' 25-year-old boss Kieran Woodbury said the routes were viable, and Lloyds List quotes the routes as worth more than £50m a year.09 March 2006" -

I have just looked in my old copy of the International Code Flag system from when I was at sea.
KKK means 'attention everybody'
SSDD means 'I should get a life'

Curmudgeon mode ON!
Why do so many people go to a forum site and lazily ask for very general advice? If you really want to go through with your plan my recommendation is to firstly spend hours, hours and hours trawling this site and others to get a feel of what's going on. Then get of your bottom, get looking on site so to speak, do plenty of driving, walking and talking.
Then come back and ask specifics.
Curmudgeon mode OFF!

Although this will bring an uproar from those with 1k+ entries who are willing to answer silly questions I fully agree with the above statement, there are so many questions asked that with a little basic research would be answered. I get surprised by some of the basic questions that appear on this site, then the swarm of responses, some excellent, some questionable.
Nearly Retired and myself can now sit back and watch the oncoming onslaught.

Have you done this and incurred these fees as a result?

No experiance of a free swap but we did buy our neighbouring 4,000 sq mtrs at a pitance and had a dispute with the Notair about his fees and he showed me the official set of fees, the only variable was the smaller fees of the Notaire, the majority was in taxes. Fees nearly cost the same as the land.

My daughter signed up to one of these Eurostar offers, good priced weekend in Lille. Funny how as the days went by they kept increasing the prices. Offer finished up as twice the price, neadless to say she didn't go. Are these offers worth the paper they ar in

On moving our 2mtr by 2mtr bathroom to one of our bedrooms we needed to raise the bath 10 cms to allow a good water run off. We asked the Carpentiere for a quote for a wooden platform. He took one look and said that it would need a concrete floor. As this was on the 1st floor we were astounded but when our Plasterer cam rounf he said no problem. The lightweight concrete contains polystyrene rather then sand and is doing the job required. We could probably lift the 2mtr sq block.

Thank you for all the useful responses, the other bickering had us in fits of laughter. Fortunately we are a one car family and I am usually the driver so whether it is in or with the vehicle is not important. Sorry about the use of 'should' rather than 'must' but English 'O' level was one I didn't get.
-
Once again our friendly Gendarmes have been standing outside stopping vehicles, at least no breath tests this time. It raises the question, driving a French Registered car what documentation should we keep in the vehicle?

I live 12 km South of Domfront and attended last years pageant and it was very good. Unfortunately it is keld every other year. having said that I have seen signs boasting about the aniversary so there could be something happening. I will talk to the tourist office and find out.
-
We had two Gendarmes srtanding on the corner outside our house the other Sunday. They were stopping cars at random and offering them the bag to blow into. (Same bag for each driver which seemed worrying. One driver was suspect so the got the machine out for a proper test. Car was left opposite our house for 4 days before it was picked up.

Bark is being eaten between gound and 12 inches. interesting is that they are also eating the bark from branches of larger trees that have been cut off.
-
Sorry Thumper but your relatives are at it. We ahve planted some new, not cheap, trees and find the bark is being stripped off. All the signs are rabbits, namely the droppings around them and seeing them. My two oportunities of dealing with them are useless. My Black Labrador who loves chasing your relatives goes the wrong way when I turn the torch on and unfortunately I have an air rfifle rather than a shotgin so they are well out of site before I get the sight to my eye

We have just bought the plot of land adjacent to our property, we paid 3,000euros and the legal fee was about 1,300. when we questioned this the notair showed us the official scales, percentage was higher the lower the cost. I think that the Notaires fees were 300, as if we had split the costs with the vendor then we both would have had to pay it

Using a French artisan would have resolved your problem. We are finding them reasonably priced and turn up when they say they will.
BBC travel news this morning gave news of a blockade by French fishermen

Moneybookers is a very good process, good exchange rates and low transfer fees, however:
Delay of over a week between your UK and French banks
There is a limit of the amount you can transfer each 90 days, no problem normally, but we are currently trying to transfer a reasonable amount due to the sale of our house, I now have 5,000€ in there account I cannot transfer yet. Am chasing this up but it means further delays.
-
I would also ask where the Decheterie id, since our move 3 weeks ago we have become regular visitors with our rubbish.
-
If you can get a French Bridging loan then that will help with the purchase, seconf stage is to o to your mortgage supplier and asked for a payment holiday. Due to delays in the sale of our house in the UK we have managed to get a 6 month holiday, cost is only the interest each month.

Thanks for the advice, initially we were going to breed but have decided not to. We have a good vet in both UK and France but have, after these comments, decided to have it done in the UK. As we will be moving to France permanently before christmas at least she won't have had a bad experiance with the French vet.
Kate, she isn't lactating just starts building her bed into a nest and has funny moods, rest of the time she is bright and active.
