  1. I am catching Brittany Ferries from Plymouth to Roscoff 19th December 2008 evening and will make a return journey on 3rd January 2009 evening. I was wondering if anyone would like to go on that sailing with me and share the costs.  I will start from Bristol and can pick you up on my route to Plymouth. Also from Roscoff I go to Carhaix-Plougner so I can drop you off anywhere on that route and pick you up on 3rd January.  Please send me an email if you are interested in sharing cost of this journey with me.
  2. Hi everyone, This is the first time I am posting on this forum. Last year I purchased my property in dept 29.  I am still leaving in the UK but go over 2-3 times a year to do some DIY. I am doing all the work single handed as I have nobody to help me. I wish to move there one day when I have completed the decoration/renovation - well change kitchen, bathroom, central heating boiler....At the moment I have a good job in the UK that enables me to pay for the work required on my French house.  So it is not possible to move to france as yet. This Christmas the central heating boiler brokedown. I obtained a couple devis to replace the boiler/chaudiere and the price is quite high.  I vaugly remember that someone told me that if you carry out some renovation work or install boiler/central heating you can claim it back something like 70% of the renocvation/replacement costs from the taxman.  Is this true? How do I claim it back from the taxman if I am still resident in the UK (pay all my taxes here).  Or is it possible to keep all my bills and once I move to france completely claim it back from taxman. I would appreciate any advice you can provide me.
  3. This is my first year paying these taxes.  They sent me my bill to my UK address. I was debating whether to pay online or direct debit.  I decided to pay by direct debit.  sent them a letter stating this and 2 days later I receieved a reply with a mandate.  Then they sent me another letter saying that they would inform me 10 days before they take the money out of my account (which they did).  Money was taken out 10 days after due date.  I thought their service was excellent.
  4. Hi, I spoke to my notaire last March about this as I am not married and have no children. 1/4 of your french estate goes to each parent (provided they are alive).  The remainder will go to your siblings in equal shares.  However, if you want to bypass this process hence in your case leaving it to your niece (only siblings part), then you need to provide your notaire with following details Name, address, date of birth, name of parents.  Also if your niece is not alive by then who your estate goes to eg her husband, kids or someone else. I was given a fee of 150euros for this work.  However, if I want to make alterations at a later date it will cost me a lot more. Hope this helps
