We hear a lot of great positives on this site. is there anyone out there who is homesick? I only ask this as i would like a true picture of brits who have made the move and are not sure whether they have made the right . decision. I want to make the move when i retire,but would like to hear of the negatives some people may have had. Regards Neil.

Has anyone experienced the dreaded termite in normandy or brittany? we have been looking around la rochelle,but the houses we have looked at have had, or are at present infested with termites. we are so worried about them that we are looking north. has anyone had experience of them in northern france?

I love brittany,i also lone normandy. i have spent holidays in both regions but cannot decide where to purchace a retirement home. i know living in a place is different from taking a holiday there. has anyone had expereience of living in both regions? which region would you settle if you had the choice? i know it is down to me in the end,so please no postings telling me that fact. i would just like to know your opinions on the two regions. thanks.

Has anyone a house in france that they use just for holidays? What are the running costs? i understand all the electricity water,etc,but what are the community charges, taxes etc. what would you say the total cost for a year is? including everything.

Has anyone out there actually retired to france,and is living there now? Did you find it easy to adjust to the french way of life,and the ups and downs of everyday life? Iknow that living in a new country is completly different than just going for a few months at a time. I lived in south africa for 11 years and know its ups and downs. I would love to hear the negative side of living in france, but there is only positive people on this site, which is great but it would be nice to hear off people who did'nt make it,and why. I am sure i will eventually retire to france,but would like to hear from people who are there know,and there highs and lows. cheers, neil.

Are mosquitoes a real problem in the dordonge or the charente-maritime? it might seem a daft question,but i am allergic to mozzie bites and can get quite ill from to many at once. is it on a par with say greece? where i can just about manage with sprays and citrus candles.
