The booklet Jura refers to is "Dossier Familiale". It comes free for the first 3 months then you start paying if you don't cancel. I managed to cancel it the first time round and when I renegotiated my new package I was offered it again but refused even the free issues! Presumably some people find it helpful or interesting but it had no value for us. I was pleasantly surprised to get 3 months' charges free on my new account package though, having already had that when I first opened the account some 2 years earlier.
I am a resident Jackie. With my first account I had to pay for each internet usage but that's now included. You would have to ask them about non-res as I don't know.
If you have a look at the CA website which covers your area you can research what they offer and print off any details you need to aid your face to face negotiations. Hopefully you'll get what you want and not what they want to sell you!

I am with CA Charente-Périgord. The formule I have is CSCA Equilibre, with a Maestro debit card (which works in shops and petrol stations but not, I think motorway tolls where I use a UK credit card). Online access is included. Cost, €5.71 per month.
I, too had too much "added value" I didn't need, so I made an appointment to discuss my actual needs - cheque book, debit card, direct debits, online access and ended up with the above.

For passports the British embassy specify on their website (link below) a Mandat Chèque or Mandat Cash i.e. a French postal order available from La Poste. This should therefore be acceptable. If you are concerned you could 'phone them.

So, Wilko. Charging the credit charge loading 4 times for one transaction isn't a rip off? My posting was certainly not whinging and I do not have to resort to insulting people by calling them pathetic in order to make a serious point. Please do not cheapen this forum.

I understand the principle of low cost no frills. I understand (but do not like) suffering a credit card loading but I do not understand how a credit card loading for each person, each flight can possibly be justified. And before anyone says it, I know I do not have to use Ryanair - I just feel that some things are not justifiable whatever the business plan is.

We also were getting concerned as 31st March was getting nearer and we'd heard nothing, so visited CPAM Angouleme on Tuesday. The lady we saw had to 'phone a colleague to ask them to get our file out and said they would contact us. We received a 'phone call on Wednesday to say that all was in order and that we would hear from them in the next week. Our letter of re-admittance and attestation were received today.
Many thanks to frenchhealthissues and everyone else who campaigned on behalf of us all.

Our cover is an all seasons security cover (conforming) with aluminium bars running through it. We use a manual roller to open (easier with 2 people) it and it pulls closed with a "tape" style attachment.

Very happy with our Magiline pool, coming up to 4 years old. Easy to maintain. We and our friends and family love it! Roll on 20° and we'll be back in.

I believe that you may be referring to "organo phosphates" . It was heavily debated on "Farming Today" which we listened to sometimes. However for more info you need an expert to post, or you can "google" organo phosphates for more info.

Just as an update, Lidl Jarnac are now asking for a pièce d'idenité to go with our "swiped" card. Ho hum......

"et le cas échéant" = "if the need arises" or "if necessary"

rothrugby, have sent you a pm

Can't speak for Formula 1 - don't use them as we prefer to have an en-suite. We use B&B hotels (which only cost a little more I think) and have checked in late succesfully with them.

Our maire gave me a copy letterfrom the airport saying they are having a "special english language day" on 26th March, including tasting of regional products. They also said info is available on www.aeroport-angouleme-cognac.com. However, when I looked it said site under construction!
Although I am pleased that Ryanair will be flying to Stanstead, the arrival is so late there that any delay means a train to London won't be available. In any event it will be almost impossible for a satisfactory onward journey.
The airport letter speaks very bullishly about promoting and hopefully expanding the service, so I will take the opportunity to make the above comment. It may sound like ungrateful whinging before they even get going but, as an example, when my son visits us later this year he will fly into Angouleme but have to return from Poitiers.

Coops,
Thanks for the update - just back after 2 days away.

My Nationwide credit card works everywhere, using chip and pin (excluding some petrol stations perhaps) - except Lidl in Jarnac, where they have to swipe it. I have no idea why this is but as it is accepted there's no problem but I do wonder why as it is an almost new store and I would have thought they'd have up to date technology.

It would be interesting to see the list of refusers in order to help me decide what steps to take next. I was thinking of going along to the weekly permanence in the next town to see what the chap had to say before trailing all the way into Angouleme. Until now I have been biding my time so as not to clog things up for people with more serious problems (we are CMU subscribers).
Thanks,

Thanks, that stopped the javascript error message - but, sadly, still no play button.
-
Thanks for the replies. I'm using IE7, I have Java and cookies enabled and have the latest version of flash player. I'm using Proxify as a proxy.
I still don't get a play button (for streaming) or a download button (for the download manager) and it still says I need to enable Java!
Am I wasting my time or has anyone else successfully used iplayer in France?
-
In another thread ErnieY recently said that in order to watch this in France "You need to work through a Proxy server in UK". Has anyone suceeded in doing this please and if so which proxy did you use.
When I get into the iplayer page and select a program, I get the message "To play this program you need to enable JavaScript" It is enabled!!
Any helpful suggestions please?

Had a salt water pool for 4 seasons. No problems at all. Easy to maintain. Pleasant to use. Would choose one again. Very satisfied - and no I don't sell them or have an axe to grind. I get a bit annoyed at some of the strong "anti" views sometimes though as they are so contrary to our experience.

valB, Orange "Initial" is €7 per month plus cost of calls. So, depending on usage the le Clerc offer may be cheaper. Although I have UK PAYG phones I don't really want to lumber my french friends with a UK number, so I'll probably go with Le Clerc when my NRJ money runs out - following their about turn.

Thanks Alex, I tried that but then it would not connect to the Internet so I had to check the box "Always dial my default connection" - then it connected! - but the problem remains.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition, with Internet Explorer 7, AVG Free Edition, Zone Alarm and I use Ad Aware and Spybot regularly. I have XP set up for automatic Windows updates. My connection is Wanadoo/Orange Broadband.
The problem is that when I am connected to the net, every few minutes the Dial up Networking box opens then immediately disappears. The mouse repositions itself but files which are open seem unaffected. It is however very distracting and annoying, so If anyone can suggest a solution I will be very grateful. (A similarly set up but different spec computer with a different version of XP doesn't have the problem).
Thanks in advance,
