  1. If you haven't had a bill by, say, the end of September chase it up as they might try to charge you a majoration or late payment penalty - even though it is not your fault. You can then have the aggro of sorting that out too.

  2. Thanks,

I am researcing this subject against the (no doubt inevitable) day when Nationwide start treating their credit cards as they have done with their debit cards i.e.charging for foreign usage. Although there are "free" cards available from ING, Boursorama etc., they require you to have a cheque account & to pay in a monthly credit or leave a large fixed amount. With the SuperU card you retain your existing bank account.

  3. I wonder what all your friends are doing wrong! We've had a salt pool for 9 years & never had a "green problem" or even a clarity problem. Whilst not fit & forget it is certainly easy to maintain.

I'll sit back now & wait for the brickbats from the anti salt pool folks[:)]

  4. In Portugal (we were in Lisbon last week) French 2 pin plugs work OK but

the larger earthed plugs won't necessarily fit. The sockets are like the

German ones with the narrower sides. You can see some examples by typing "Portuguese electrical sockets" into Google & going to Images. Take a small screwdriver with you & buy a plug locally if you need it.

  5. When we moved to France we realised that there might not be a local gym, so we have created our own in an outbuilding. Should you consider the same and be thinking of second hand machines, consider buying in the UK before you come here as 2nd hand prices for such items (and many others in France!!) tend to be higher than in the UK. For new, compare online at Decathlon.

  6. CurrencyFair now works with the Faster Payments service - if the amount you want to transfer is within the limit for that (£5000 I think). Last time I used them it took less than 20 minutes for them to acknowledge receipt of my funds.

  7. Well, I received a reply

    "Thank you for your email.

Firstly, please allow me to apologise for the delay in getting back to

you. We do endeavour to get back to all enquiries as quickly as

possible, and I’m very sorry that we’ve let you down in that respect.

Unfortunately, you can only register UK addresses at Tesco.com at this

particular time. Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience

caused. Please don't hesitate to contact me or one of my colleagues

    should you require further assistance.

    Kind regards

    Andrew Evans

I find this totally amazing for such a large international company - it's almost "French" isn't it [:)]
